I honestly don't really get as of why we should list mid-ends as tiers when the exact reason as of why the Chaos Emeralds are Variable in power is because they supposedly make Sonic & co. exactly how strong he needs to be to take on a foe.

If this was the case, we should only list the absolute minimum and the absolute maximum extension of their combined power.

By this logic, Sonic would also become around as strong as whoever is fighting in a Vs. Thread (whose powers remains within the Chaos Emeralds' ends, naturally), which is something I expect people to remain more opposed to though.

That is not a mid-end. That's the highball of the Chaos Emeralds' combined power at its minimum.

What I'm saying is that if his AP justification is indeed that the Chaos Emeralds can make Sonic "as strong as needs to be to fight an enemy" doesn't make any sense to list mid-ends AND to use only their absolute minimum and their absolute maximum in Vs. Threads.

There are other characters whose AP varies depending on a certain situation (like their surroundings, their opponents' strength, etcetera), and it's not like we list every single mid-end, and we use ONLY the listed ones in a battle.

Then why would the ratings matter? Wouldn't it be safe to just say variable then call it a day?

No. Still, leave the Lowest end and the Highest End, which would be Sonic's absolute minimum and maximum.

The rest would just vary.

That would be... Heavily contested.

Sure, it makes sense with how the Chaos Emeralds work and with what the lore gives us, but many wouldn't want that even despite that.

Heavily contested or not, if that's how the Chaos Emeralds work, that's how they should be tiered. It doesn't make sense to have (and to use) just 3 or 4 ratings if the CEs are truly variable in power.
