The Death of SCP

Well, I technically accepted calc group members as well this time.

Since the new Internet media image was chosen, what else needs to be done here?
Nothing, really, it's just a matter of finalizing the transfer of all SCP files to their new archive wiki. The pages themselves are ported, the images are not.

Or are you guys suggesting a deletion because of its Level of "OP"?
We’d also delete Twin Peaks, Cthulhu Mythos, etc if that were the case. Yet we aren’t.
After all the years of hard work? Deletion isn't the way. What are the systematics to proposing a fiction and it's sources as "Valid" within this site? It's simply "canonicity".
The pages are being preserved.

I really hate pulling this card, but do note that this is a Staff Only Thread, so please ask permission from a Thread Mod or Admin before posting.

Oh my... That ain't right. After all the years of hard work? Deletion isn't the way. What are the systematics to proposing a fiction and it's sources as "Valid" within this site? It's simply "canonicity". As long as all fall under being canon then I don't see reasons as to why it should be deleted, damn. I'm just seeing this now. Oh my.

It's been pointed out that you need to have permission from staff to speak on this thread. This is to prevent exactly this sort of unneeded chatter. There is a companion thread floating about if you wish to lament.

That said, I will answer your question by encouraging you to read the OP, as it laid out the reasons for deletion. Oh my, indeed.

Last I heard, people were taking their time with moving the images over, rendering the migration incomplete.

Is this the point where we should start considering a deadline to force them to act?

Blogs and images aren't.

I've done some of the work, but it seems they are broadly slow to pursue it. It may be necessary, given the length of time since an agreement was reached. Off the cuff, I think two weeks is ample time.

I'd considered the countdown to have begun, given the liking of the message and no further statements on the matter, but I will post it plainly.

The countdown is two weeks from today. SCP people have until July 21st to move all remaining content to the archive forum. I've assisted and will try to assist further, but legwork will be necessary from others.

July 21st, 11:59 PM EST, right? Like, a time clarification might be good

I don't think that's strictly necessary, but I also don't feel like arguing or nitpicking over minutiae. 11:59 PM EST it is.

I will say, if this is going to be deleted, there should be a rule emphasizing the fact it's been officially banned from the wiki ala Suggsverse

By discussion rules I don't really have sway on this save what I can directly argue, and I really don't know that much about SCP anyhow.
I will return to this facet of the discussion (admittedly late, but it seems appropriate to do this now, to avoid future drama).

Without a rule, this will be approached over and over again. As far as I can foresee, there can be no changes to the context of SCP on this wiki barring an extreme change on their own wiki- a change that is very unlikely to occur, given it would need to adequately address all of our issues. So, I think a specific rule is a good idea.

I'm not great at writing these things, I think, but this is an initial proposal:

SCP Rules

Do not try to add any SCP Foundation profiles to this wiki. It has been discussed here that the verse is inappropriate for our wiki due to issues such as attempted manipulation of statistics. As the threat of this contamination is unlikely to change, any discussion on the subject is disallowed barring some major changes in policy on the SCP Wiki's behalf. Without such major policy changes, discussion regarding additions of SCP Foundation profiles is regarded as a waste of all involved parties' time.
Slap this (or whatever we end up with) into the Discussion Rules, at the bottom of the page, with the other two verses with specific bans on their presence on the wiki.

I think "manipulation of statistics" is a weird reason to list since they didn't actually do that. Tales attempting to do that (i.e. Chaoskampf) never actually ended up causing any changes.

You could leave out that reason, change it to "attempted manipulation of statistics", or change it to something like "invocation of our standards".

I don't see a difference between an attempt to do it and actually doing it, but fair enough I suppose.

Kind of got lost what the topic was.
Whether to implement a deadline for deleting SCP (provisionally yes, placed roughly 2 weeks from now).

Whether to create a discussion rule against creating SCP profiles, and if so, how to word it.

I would maybe suggest mentioning Alt Battles in the rules just so people know it exists and where to post SCP.

Iffy on that one. Alt Battles isn't an official wiki, and depending on how it goes/is moderated, the mention of it may negatively be perceived. The intent of it extends beyond just archival, and includes other verses rejected from VSBW- it already has the Backrooms, I believe, for example. I'm unsure if mentioning it explicitly is a good idea, with that level of uncertainty about its future.

Hi all, sorry for home invading, but it has come to my attention that there are still a bunch of SCPs in the Tier 0 category. As some of you know, Tier 0 has changed, and given the specifics of these changes, there being roughly ~30 profiles in the category, none of which fit the bill anymore, is rather strange.

Given SCP is a verse pending deletion anyways, I encourage the people behind the transferal to, if possible, get these ******* off my lawn as soon as possible. Thank you.

Alright. I went ahead and did it myself. This category seems to cover all the 33 profiles currently rated at that, so, it seems the transferral of everything in them is finished. Given that, and the fact we're 2 (1?) days away from the deadline anyway, I'll move on to delete them.

Will the calc blogs be deleted?

If so, why? Seems a bit unnecessary (if we don't want them to pollute categories, we could instead remove the calc & SCP categories from those blogs), and it might break some other things (any other calcs on the site that reference them for their methods).

I do not think that the calc blogs need to be deleted. Our new SCP profiles hosting wiki can directly link to them when necessary. 🙏

I also don't think they need to be deleted. Blogs aren't formally presented by us, they are personal works of users.

As a general reminder to the thread, as previously stated all SCP pages will be deleted tonight after midnight. It will be easiest to pursue this via a bot (I ask @Catzlaflame preemptively, as he's been on the thread and knows what needs removed in particular).

After this, I intend to make a follow-up thread regarding similar verses (of particular note is the RPC Authority, others will have an opportunity to mention other possible similar cases).

For the record, a MUCH more efficent method of image transfering has essentially been developed cus @Just_a_Random_Butler (my GOAT, most skilled content mod ever, I swear <heart>) has been so kind as to walk me through a modified version of the GfyCat gif transfer project, and we're able to use externally created python applications to nigh-autonomously download the images. Notably, this will absolutely not be as quick as the actual page transfer (which was instantaneous), but it is now at least a feasible endeavor that won't take a gazillion years. There are still some very minor bugs, but nothing that can't be accounted for.

Convenient part? I don't even need to ask for a time extension because this method only requires the page source codes which are already on Alt Battles wiki, and which I would still be able to acess on VSB regardless with CM perms. This way, theres no pressure to work under an impending deadline, and we can still move forward with the deletion, so everyone's happy.

All that said, I will now initate the deletion. Yes there's a couple hours left, but realistically literally nothing will change in that time, but again the transfer is on track to occur either way.

Also, another shoutout to @Just_a_Random_Butler :> who likes to work in the shadows, but is insanely helpful.

dude doesn't even know JARB is an admin, not a content mod, yeesh.

I'll open a follow-up thread later. For now, closing.

Anyway, the deletion was completed just now. The deed is done, SCP is no longer on the wiki.
