Super Mario General Discussion Thread.

So Brothership is a major step up in a way?
Compared to those, yeah, but those were also remakes (Remakes that also had poor timing, esspeically the BIS remake that came out at the end of 2018, basically nobody were buying 3DS games anymore by then), compared to the 5 main titles it's about standard (It's actually pretty standard by mario rpgs in general). A little bit ahead of Partners in Time, and a little bit behind Superstar Saga, but given it's already reached these numbers by the end of december (The sales account for Q4 of 2024 so doesn't take jan sales into account) I think it'll be up there with Dream Team and maybe Bowser's Inside Story (Don't think it'll overtake it, but I think it can get decently close).

Yeah, I see what you mean. Has Nintendo mentioned anything on the sales? I mean, whether sales are good or not also depends on costs and expectations and all that.

They haven't really mentioned anything specific afaik besides the release of copies sold. But given the positive reception, nearly 2 million sales in a little under 2 months (For a franchise that so far only has 3 games that sold over 2 million in their entire lifetimes, and one of those 3 just barely made it over 2 million), and the rpgs tending to have much smaller budgets compared to the big Mario releases I'd be surprised if the sales were considered bad by Nintendo.

That's good to know. Inflated budgets and unrealistic expectations have been a thing for a while in general, so it's easy to get jumpy even where it's uncalled for.

Speaking of sales I really wonder how Nintendo plan on replicating MK8 Deluxes success. Obviously the new game will sell like hotcakes because it's Mario Kart, but like I posted above MK8 sold over 3 million copies just in the last quater of 2024, 7 and a half years after it's inital release. Hell the games on track to surpass the lifetime sales of Wii Sports and take it's place as the best selling Nintendo game of all time.

Just bundle the New Mario Kart game with every Switch 2 easy.
Honestly, either this or a new mainline Mario as the first Killer App for the Switch 2 are possibilities.

EDIT: My bad, misread that. I thought you meant make the new Mario Kart a launch Switch 2 title.

DKCR Switch has to be the most confusing "it exists" game ever, nobody i seen is talking about it, matter fact has anyone seen discussion or at least kinda mentioned the game? It has been almost a MONTH and it seems like nobody gives a damn. Super confused and seemed doomed from the start anyways.

I mean, to be fair. If people don't buy the shit, they can't complain when it goes under.
inversely people can't complain when games dogass but they keep buying them, looking at you pokemon.

It basically exists, just to exist on switch. Switch already has the sequel game, which like, ya know, is arguably quite a bit better. But DKCR had the remake shit already on 3DS. It's a super good game, like actually, better than 99% of Mario, but it's just a quick port to make a few bucks at the end of the Switch's life, it's not anything of note, and Nintendo knows that.

Yeah Nintendo's clearly keeping the big stuff for the Switch 2's release. DKCR is just a quick and dirty way to put a good game on the Switch so consumers have something to buy, don't think it was ever expected to do well. Kinda funny how every single DKC game is on Switch now though.

I was about to say how there's been a lot of "missing" sequels on the Switch that I'd expect to come out really fast for the S2 and I used Fire Emblem as an example but I forgot that FE16 did come out, it's just that nobody played it

It's neat to see what Mario's canon dialogue is.
Although, IDK how much of it stands up when scrutinizing localization only: The dialogue shown is in English, so some of it may need to have its original Japanese version checked if we wanna consider it. (For example, MP3's plot-related dialogue about how no one can match his Courage.)

But on the other hand, he has English dialogue exclusive to the Japanese version of Sunshine, like comparing something -The airstrip? The goop?- to a giant, empty plate, & for some reason, when Peach is looking at the airstrip water tower Shadow Mario has disappeared from, Mario is saying, seemingly to Toadsowrth "Looks like Mario's going to have to find a job!".

The MP6 dialogue about using the Stars might be interesting, but I'm skeptic it'll have powerscaling use, & I don't remember the MP6 storyline.

Do we consider Fortune Street canon? Inter-character dialogue might be interesting, like with Mario saying how he's beaten Bowser a million times. Figure of speech, but asserts superiority in canon.

Mario vs Donkey Kong credits, if canon, might be a case for 4th Wall Awareness.

Do we consider the SM64 manual's dialogue canon? It has Mario recognizing Bowser's voice & somewhat praising his intelligence/planning abilities.

What's our stance on using the cutscenes from Mario Party 2? Given the events of the game are a play I wasn't sure if for example we could use the scene from horror land where the magic wands can turn people into frogs could give the cast transmutation via optional equipment or something (Not like it'd be a strech, these weirdos using actual magic instead of special effects or something for this stuff isn't too far fetched)

Looked at Mario's profile a bit and got a couple questions

1.- For Self-Perception Manipulation, isn't the Superstar Saga bit just gameplay mechanics to help the player perform the Bros Attacks for their first time ?
2.- How do matches go about Mario losing his power ups ? Since that's a pretty big mechanic of the games
3.- Are the Invincibility Leaf and Invincibility Bell really Standard Equipment ? The former can only be obtained if you lose 5 times on a level and the latter is amiibo exclusive

Also, I feel like it should be a bit more specific on the degrees his power-ups amp him

Probably so
3.- Talking about matches, if it's SBA, does that mean he gets all the stuff he's used in his 40 years of history ?
no, he has an optional equipment tab for a reason

You did say big mechanic so doesnt that imply its a game mechanic

Hello guys

i have a whole pack of evidence and scans that can put the mario cosmology in higher tiers by checking out here

there is a lot of content that wasn't mentioned nor explored in this wiki so i decided to dig deeper and finding out the contents that can upgrade the mario verse

note that this is about buffing cosmology as the blog doesn't have intention to buff base form mario characters so don't worry guys
these are interesting arguments, but i think they could use a lot more backing evidence.

if you want to argue that the world mario flips to is 4d, why not just show clear examples of how the 2d world has depth in it instead of trying to use statements alone? i mean they wouldn’t be hard to find as it’s all throughout the game, such as them opening doors while 2d and entering them.

just having a world as 4d wouldn’t be enough either. you’d also have to argue it’s large enough in size. and i’m pretty sure this site already accepts space in mario as infinite anyway, so i’m not sure why that’s not mentioned there either.

you could use the matter splatter stuff as supplementary evidence for there being higher dimensions that are apart of the regular space-time in each universe. the street/path is considered to be higher dimensional via the star title and it phases in and out of the 3d world like how 4d objects would appear via cross sections. and the fact it moves with mario means that it’s bounded by time and thus has a world line (or snapshots). you could argue this is the same higher dimension flip goes to if you want or it could just be separate and stack on top of each other.

as for your dream arguments, i feel like them being a higher level of consciousness alone wouldn’t be enough. toad having a nightmare after being drained of paint could easily be expanded upon. paint makes up the transdimensional scissors and the thing cards which are summoned from cutout. its still a weird argument though and im not too sure if its enough to grant a higher tier.

quick question do we have any calcs or something for movement speed? Mario and co sure as hell ain't running at 27 quadrillion times the speed of light, I'd imagine they've got some decent superhuman level feats laying around

Would being able to interact with Antimatter and treating Dark Matter Spatial Destruction count as Resistance to Existence Erasure or would that still fall under Resistance to Matter Manipulation?

Neither of those EE. Even if there's so much as a subatomic particle left, it ain't EE, let alone other aspects of EE like the mind, soul and whatever other slop exists for the verse.
It'd just be matter manip, maybe deconstruction if ya squint.

Isn't deconstruction just a subset of matter Manipulation?

Edit:
I read the page and see where it differs.
