Super Mario General Discussion Thread.

I think they're just scared of him, there's a few minigames where he just beats the shit out of them and they don't really fight back (obviously they could fight back but like, idk it's mario party, i don't think consistency is their biggest priority).

I also don't think Bowser Spaces are actual probability hax, he's literally just spinning the wheel on what he wants to do to you. If you get "lose a star" and don't have one he just changes the punishment to be something else, if you get "gain 100 stars" he just makes up an excuse and runs away, in Jamboree on the Bowser map he can even just punch through the roulette and straight up just say you have to give him the star (which i suppose is 4WA).

He uhm, can make portal and mini tornado in mario party 6 🙂

Given what we are shown it rarely ever seems the player characters are actually giving away their coins or stars they just start flailing in a panic as it happens. Maybe there is some sort of telekinesis reaching into their hammerspace but that's about it.

I noticed a possibly interesting fodder feat recently.

In Super Mario 64, if the Chain Chomp in Bob-omb Battlefield is hit by a Bob-omb's explosion, it will be launched as high as its chain allows, going practically straight up.
It can be assumed the Chain Chomp was launched, since this happens while it's still tied to a pole, & even when freed, it seems to need smaller jumps to build up to bigger jumps.

I haven't done any actual measurements (& truthfully, I am a lazy person, so I'd prefer if someone else made the calc blog, but....), but I have done some math.

Assuming 3 meter radius, density of iron (Smash Brawl Trophy implies this, & Smash 4 states it, & Super Paper Mario Tattle states it to be iron.), spherical shape & removing an eighth for the empty space that is its mouth, if I did my math right, the Bob-omb Battlefield Chain Chomp would weigh about 779,212 kilograms.

IDK how fast it's moving, & while I've seen it on Twitch, not sure how nor where to get footage.

So a Bob-omb's explosion, even if said explosion destroys the Bob-omb, being able to launch said otherwise impervious Chomp, might be notable.
Especially if we're to assume it can scale to others for surviving such explosions.

It's fodder, assuming the 779 tons is correct, and assuming it gets launched max distance in 1 frame (1/30th of a second) and the chain is 10 meters (it's definitely not that), it's only High 8-C. It's actually probably more like 9-A all things considered given the chain is smaller and i doubt it happens all in 1 frame. Even just 2 frames would chop it in half.

Launching it isn't exactly a scaling feat. it isn't hurt by it, it's probably akin to how Saitama got ragdolled by the Kabuto dude.

Ig it might be decent IF it happens in 1 frame, could be tier 8 support for fodder but if it's anything less it's just a bit feat.

IDK the exact length, but the chain's... orbs do seem exceptionally spread out in such a state from what I remember. Do you have footage?

Considering it'd be for fodder, that might still be relevant.

IDK about not being a scaling feat, it's the only time anything affects that Chomp, IIRC. I don't recall if throwing a cork box or punching or kicking it does anything.
Not to mention, some media does use launching a foe away as a form of defeat, & even outside of Smash, knockback in response to being hit is a thing.

I did preface it by saying "a possibly interesting fodder feat"; I'd assume Mario himself has better stuff to scale to. (Him being unable to harm it could be Game Mechanics/PiS because you're supposed to free it so it jumps wildly about & breaks the bars to get access to the star, as opposed to what seems to be a deliberate animation for it being hit by an exploding Bob-omb.)

A boo disguises itself as a fortune teller and is implied to have cursed mario & luigi to feel like someone was there when there wasn't anyone and to trip. This was all so another boo who wanted to fight someone could fight the bros. The second boo leaves after the fight satisfied.

Would it be considered durability negation to make an Invincible/invulnerable opponent flinch in Pain or Halt despite not taking any actual damage?

I think this Reddit post makes a good case for upgrading Donkey Kong's Moon feat.
Lots of horsing around to ignore the basic fact that the Moon is visibly small in the one game where it's relevant. You can argue the method used for the VSBW calc is invalid and I'd be receptive to that but it simply doesn't change the fact that ignoring what it's like in the game where it is punched in favor of basically unrelated ones isn't really the best thought process (just imagine the reverse- it's obviously realistic in size in DKCR, but someone else tries to prove that in most other Mario games, it's not, and so the feat is invalid)

Do you goons still give Mario ******* fate slop for "being fated to always save peach" or some shit. Or did ya'll kill that.

We got rid of that but I am tempted to try bringing back fate manipulation for what Rosalina said at the end of galaxy 2 which is technically a different reason but still.

We still need to finish the Bowser's Army profile before we go about making these massive CRTs.

CRTs look more impressive and people will take them more seriously if they apply to more profiles.

I don't think a civilization profile is a big game changer. Also I straight up don't think that is true it's pretty much entirely just personal interest. I mean if you want people to do something please just ask.

It hasn’t been finished yet. If it was a real profile on the site, they would care a whole lot more than they do now.

Yeah I know it's not finished. Honestly I don't see how a civilization or team profile is going to be a big deal for something like a tier shift most of the civilization wouldn't even scale at the moment. Most people aren't even going to find it.

Note 2: All non-crossover video game spin-offs, excluding the Paper Mario series and Hotel Mario, plus Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Editionand Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix, are considered part of the same continuity, as they have never been acknowledged as different canons.

When was this added it's not even accurate paper mario shares cosmology, I am pretty sure we accept Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix, and I am certain we accept several crossovers. Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition is a little weird but shouldn't be that different from the sport games with final fantasy characters.

Yeah I don't really know why those are excluded. (I also don't know why they're being listed as non-crossover given... yknow)

Hello guys

i have a whole pack of evidence and scans that can put the mario cosmology in higher tiers by checking out here

there is a lot of content that wasn't mentioned nor explored in this wiki so i decided to dig deeper and finding out the contents that can upgrade the mario verse

note that this is about buffing cosmology as the blog doesn't have intention to buff base form mario characters so don't worry guys

I pointed out how the endless mysteries or infinite mysteries are only said in the Italian version in the game. If MrPlumber is reading this I hope they know that. Although they are new to the site so please go easy on them !!

I am not going to insult them. Is suggesting that a game where you explore galaxies 6 years prior to another game where a toad uses mystery as a term for universes means they intended that mysteries to mean universes in the earlier game, being hard on them?
The toad refers to life as a mystery making it even weirder.

and what about the rest...what are your thoughts?

So we're finally moving past Mario Kart 8 and getting the next new console entry. Really like how the models are looking, got the vibes of the N64 models with the puffier faces, also seems like they're not messing with proportions as much anymore (DK and Bowser look chunkier compared to previous MK games).

Also seems like people are mixed on DK's redesign, some people love it and others hate it. Looks like starting with the movie they've gradually been moving away from Rares design and making him closer to Miyamoto's original design, more specifically the version from DK '94, I personally like it, eyes seem a little too big like in the movie for my liking but overall looks nice so far.

Haven't looked at it myself in-depth. Is Nintendo trying to erase Rare's DK design? If so, that deeply angers me.

Not erase it, but they've been steadily updating it recently to be what looks like a mix of Rare's design and the original design from Miyamoto that was used until the DK '94 / DKC (His movie design also kinda looks like a mix of the two which is why his design in the new MK footage is drawing comparisons to that specifically).
