Super Mario General Discussion Thread.

What type of upgrades
Well, the last time the Player had been updated was in 2020, when Kalos had just barely come out. Plus we’re seeing stuff like Apex Shadow Pokemon.

The Team Leaders have also fought Shadow Legendaries, which are normally exclusive to Giovanni, also the GO Rocket Leaders are getting pages.

Team GO Rocket itself is getting much bigger and more honestly completely random abilities.

Been working on my Bowser rework (I've made like 0% progress outside the P&A section there's just so god damn much to cover lol) and going through Mario RPG stuff for him and the playable party in general, wanted some thoughts on the Greaper and the party potentially resisting soul hax. I've had the JP version of the Greapers entry in the monster list translated (Had it done off site and just to be sure had it translated on site via the translation request thread), relevant text being:

"A being that seems to love souls, and tries to swiftly reap others' souls with their scythes, but what even is a soul?"

None of it's attacks, special or otherwise ever take the parties souls when hitting them with it's scythe, but the description bringing up that they "try" to swiftly reap them makes me uncertain if it's something that the Greaper can easily do so on a whim. It's inner thoughts also being just asking for the party to share even a little bit of their soul makes me more uncertain (Could be that it's spefically thinking about asking them to share because they're resisting all it's attempts but I dunno). I personally think a possible resistance to soul manipulation at the very least is fine but I wanted other thoughts on this.

I guess it’s sort of unclear if it only does this after already winning a fight or killing the opponent, or if it just does it all the time with its attacks, so maybe a “possibly” would work.

Does anyone know why Waluigi, Daisy, or Toad don't have power star keys? If they can use them in the party games I imagine they should have one right?

I can't recall but do they use they use the power stars to amp themselves or are they just carrying them around to win whatever board is being played. I'd imagine quick look at the various story modes in the games would probs show off them using the stars as an amp to justify a key.

But really when are we gonna reword Waluigi's AP justification to remove him basically stomping Bowser given later apperances make it clear that he wouldn't be able to just beat Bowser like that again

It may have to do with the Power Star being shown to be an amp (In LS at the very least.) in Mario Party 2's Bowser Land's ending cutscene, & MP2 doesn't have Waluigi, Daisy, nor Toad as player characters.

In theory, it could amp them, but we don't have anything on-screen showing it could. Do we have other evidence that stars amp them, especially Mario Party stuff?
IIRC, there's the MP4 constellation feat a Star performs for the player character's birthday, but I'm unsure about the other parties.

I think they do in the DS one at least.

Also, there should really be a total number of speed amps Mario has on his profile.

  • Speed Amplification (With the Dash Mushroom, which can greatly amplify Mario's speed, and the Golden Dash Mushroom, which is a more potent variant of the Dash Mushroom. He can also transform into a Bullet Bill, which is of comparable speed, if not faster, to the Golden Dash Mushroom)

what is confusing me is how many amps golden dash and bullet bill should be?

Outside of maybe the Bill I wouldn't really say they're amping his speed, they're just giving him more forward momentum, but he's not perceiving things faster or gaining the ability to fight faster.

Why apply this to the character? Do they not apply to the vehicle they operate, especially given the booster/thrust visual effects often seen from the exhaust during the use of such items?

Travel Speed amplification, then?

Can we massively upscale certain enemies from Pokios because of this?

Like which enemies?
We already have feats for Goombas where they destroy huge boulders or launch giant roulette balls, IIRC.
I'd be surprised if (violently) fragmenting a metal box had a higher yield, especially given it's likely to be considerably hollow.
It's also dubious if it'd upgrade if it takes 200 hits to do, since that means it has to damage the box 200 times to break it, meaning dividing the yield by 200 for Pokio.

Mario is what again? 151 cm? 155 cm?
Uncertain if it's worth calcing, but feel free to take a crack at it.
Assuming it's not Game Mechanics for other species to destroy it in fewer hits, how many do others need?

I believed this to be obvious, but there are many Mario enemies capable of oneshotting those same metal crates.

New DK game, about time. Looks very fun. They're also just letting everyone into Mario Kart now, we got Cataquacks and Fish Bones in here now.

We also have a cow as a player character. Why even, lol?

Also, I guess DK shares a thread with Mario now, so this is where we discuss Bonanza?

I guess with races now being able to support 24 racers at once they're just filling out the roster as much as they can lmao. Not that I'm complaining, I will be a Cataquack main.

Yeah should be fine to discuss it here, DK falls under the Mario franchise umbrella like the Yoshi and Wario series do.

I'm just sad there's no sign of the other Kong characters in Bonanza.

No Diddy, Dixie, Chunky, Funky, Lunky, Tiny, Candy, Cranky, Wrinkly, nor even Kiddy Kong!

& since when was DK a treasure hunter?

Might have to go back and check because yeah I thought it was a lil odd about the lack of kongs (Mostly Diddy, like I ain't expecting Kiddy Kong to ever make a noticable comeback).

...Yuzu 2 better be in the works cause wtf
Yeah it better be, with these rising bills and that dumbass orange man starting tariff wars piracy is gonna be the way to go. Was never getting the new switch day 1 anyway but even for the future I don't feel like shelling out money like this, GTA6 being a hundo is still the crown jewel of shit pricing but Nintendo really want the silver medal for some reason.

the switch itself will be like 450 dollars in the united states and like 350 in japan, can u guess why?
Hardware upgrades? Inflation? Greed?

Oh & apparently DK does get one companion. From the site:

"DK MAKES A NEW FRIEND!

Together, they chase down the mysterious VoidCo."

Apparently, it's the sparkly purple blob on his shoulder? ....Yay?
