Super Mario General Discussion Thread.

So Brothership is a major step up in a way?
Compared to those, yeah, but those were also remakes (Remakes that also had poor timing, esspeically the BIS remake that came out at the end of 2018, basically nobody were buying 3DS games anymore by then), compared to the 5 main titles it's about standard (It's actually pretty standard by mario rpgs in general). A little bit ahead of Partners in Time, and a little bit behind Superstar Saga, but given it's already reached these numbers by the end of december (The sales account for Q4 of 2024 so doesn't take jan sales into account) I think it'll be up there with Dream Team and maybe Bowser's Inside Story (Don't think it'll overtake it, but I think it can get decently close).

Yeah, I see what you mean. Has Nintendo mentioned anything on the sales? I mean, whether sales are good or not also depends on costs and expectations and all that.

They haven't really mentioned anything specific afaik besides the release of copies sold. But given the positive reception, nearly 2 million sales in a little under 2 months (For a franchise that so far only has 3 games that sold over 2 million in their entire lifetimes, and one of those 3 just barely made it over 2 million), and the rpgs tending to have much smaller budgets compared to the big Mario releases I'd be surprised if the sales were considered bad by Nintendo.

Speaking of sales I really wonder how Nintendo plan on replicating MK8 Deluxes success. Obviously the new game will sell like hotcakes because it's Mario Kart, but like I posted above MK8 sold over 3 million copies just in the last quater of 2024, 7 and a half years after it's inital release. Hell the games on track to surpass the lifetime sales of Wii Sports and take it's place as the best selling Nintendo game of all time.

DKCR Switch has to be the most confusing "it exists" game ever, nobody i seen is talking about it, matter fact has anyone seen discussion or at least kinda mentioned the game? It has been almost a MONTH and it seems like nobody gives a damn. Super confused and seemed doomed from the start anyways.

I mean, to be fair. If people don't buy the shit, they can't complain when it goes under.
inversely people can't complain when games dogass but they keep buying them, looking at you pokemon.

It basically exists, just to exist on switch. Switch already has the sequel game, which like, ya know, is arguably quite a bit better. But DKCR had the remake shit already on 3DS. It's a super good game, like actually, better than 99% of Mario, but it's just a quick port to make a few bucks at the end of the Switch's life, it's not anything of note, and Nintendo knows that.
