Barlow's mind manipulation takes around a couple of seconds (3 to 10 based on how it was written in the book), but it does require eye contact. Some people have been able to break away from it, but it's extremely difficult (most just find themselves being pulled back toward his eyes). If Oddjob can prevent himself from looking at him, he may resist being hypnotized, but it would leave him open for an attack.

Barlow should take this most often in my opinion.
