Sonic General Discussion Zone Act 1: New Frontiers

Anybody noticed those Portal Rings seem to be becoming a mainstay in the series?

The movies started it, then Sonic Frontiers: Another Story began with Sonic entering a Portal Ring, Shadow Gens just did the same thing with using a Portal Ring to enter the Movieverse, and now CrossWorlds seems to be utilizing them as a potential gimmick.

Just interesting to note...
They're the voiceless Bumblebee of Sonic. Peak.

Nah, Shadow can't use any of his Doom Powers when in the Movieverse to my knowledge. This is because, as far I'm concerned, the implication of the DLC seems to be that Shadow's consciousness is occupying the body of his movie counterpart.

Curiously enough: Shadow remarks that his new body has the same form and innate abilities as his normal body. And I'm not saying that Movie Shadow is somehow equal to Game Shadow, but still something I noticed.
That can't really happen as we know that Shadow leaves with the same portal he used to get there and then notices he reverts back to normal, this seems more like a Kingdom Hearts situation of the character just changing design automatically to suit the new enviroment and nothing fancier.

Unless we end up with the Sonic 3 movie touching on Generations or something weird like that.

I think these have been common quite earlier in the series, more specifically the special stages in Sonic 1, 3 and Mania, and also the Mania intro video.

No no for sure, absolutely, technically even the very first classic titles had it after the Goal Post.

But it's like a resurgence, if you will, regarding the idea and applying it to the canon

the movies.....didn't started it tho? Shake tell me, how do we go to the special stages in Sonic 1, 2, 3 & Knuckles?
bruh, he knew that

Just checked: Shadow can't even use Doom Spear when in his Movieverse body. So I think it has to less do with where it takes place in the story and more like Movie Shadow doesn't have Black Arms DNA.
Also I'd like to share this official PlayStation blog where Shun Nakamura, a producer at Sonic Team, stated in an interview that the DLC has no connection to the story and is just bonus content.
this is in reference to how it connects to the story of Shadow Gens, as it doesn't really affect the story of it, for Movie 3 it is said that it isn't "directly connected" with the Movie, so....make that what you will

If that theory's true, how much you wanna bet on a sort of Prime rewrite to address the continuity errors?
Apparently there will be a comic adaptation of the first 2 chapters of Prime in 2025, I don't know about the rest, but I hope the comic version takes care of fixing the errors.

The movie stage was pretty fun, and the challenge acts were pretty intense surprisingly, but I wish there was more.

Also just…kinda iffy on Keanu’s voice for Shadow, maybe it’s intentional but he sounds kind of bored?

I personally think that Keanu might be trying to mimic Kirk Thornton's calm and focused tone of voice. I mainly say this because Keanu sounds a lot more aggressive and emotional as Shadow in Sonic 3 so far, while he's a lot more composed and mellow in this game. My guess is Keanu toned down Shadow's aggression to better fit Game Shadow's personality.

Tbf I had this criticism for Kirk in some of the base game, like I think against Neo Devil Doom he could have injected a bit more emotion in some lines (like him saying he can’t be stopped)

By the way: I'm trying to find a translation of the Japanese script for the Tokyo stage because, apparently, Shadow contemplates if he's in the Movieverse because of the power of Black Doom.

However it's more than possible that the Time Eater was responsible for the anomaly, since the Tokyo stage unlocks after completing Space Colony ARK Act 1 and the Time Eater was the last thing he saw before ending up in White Space.

Also worth noting that in the scene where Shadow gets back to White Space in the Tokyo stage, if the end-game was already reached (aka, the area being red instead of white), that will be directly shown in the portal ring Shadow enters and the cutscene that follows, so that's a nice touch.

According to Sonic Speed Sim, ESP Silver is a Super Form level character. He shares the same "Super" rarity alongside Super Sonic, Neo Metal Sonic and Doom Shadow.

Funnily enough, Black Doom messing with the timeline was my current theory due to the underlying theme in Shadow Gens of "Black Doom is trying to hijack the timeline" thing

Very interesting...

Sonic Question Time: So I’ve been thinking about the whole “who deserves their own game” discussion that has been brought to the table thanks to Shadow Generations, and one thing I’ve noticed is how a lot of the ideas sorta revolve around the already existing cast. Not that that’s a bad thing or anything, but it makes me wonder what ideas could come from throwing a character into a (mostly) new setting. Think of it as the Sonic equivalent to some of the Mario spin-offs like Wario Land, Donkey Kong Country or Princess Peach Showtime.

There’s a few semi-concepts that come into my mind such as an Amy game with a magic system or something, however one slightly more fleshed out idea I have revolves around Metal Sonic. After a fight with Sonic aboard one of Eggman’s battleships, Metal finds himself knocked off and sent plummeting into the ocean and eventually washes up on some remote island. Due to the damage he’s taken he finds himself unable to leave the island (kinda like with Mecha Sonic in Scrapnik Island), so the game revolves around him exploring the island to either find someone to repair him or find something that could help him leave. Eventually he learns of the antagonists of the game who want to cause some kind of catastrophe mentioned in a legend, and he becomes fixated on preventing the catastrophe once he learns about a blue hedgehog being prophesied to stand against it.

Metal Sonic trying his damndest to avert a prophecy simply to prevent Sonic from playing hero is actually hilarious. Perfectly spiteful, too.

You ever heard of Papers, Please? Now imagine instead of being a border guard preventing terrorism by rejecting or accepting individuals into the country, you're Amy performing Tarot Readings to try and direct various friends and strangers alike from doing stupid shit (or to perhaps even embolden them to do something).

I was more so thinking about his identity crisis on being the real Sonic and all, but I like your take on it too. Maybe a combo of the two?

This is a cute idea. Maybe just make it a minigame in a full package though, because a lot of the fandom would rip that game to shreds if it was all about the Tarot cards

A tactical Fire Emblem esque RPG with Eggman as the main protagonist as you conquer land and manage your resources for global domination.

Perhaps a Tails game or series of some kind where Tails has his own side cast of characters, with them being Tails's own "Teen Titans" in a sense. You can do any genre, but a 3D platformer might be ideal.

It would be funny if that game had an impossible mode difficulty where Sonic would randomly show up to destroy your bases.

It would have stayed either way. This is just more outright evidence that the Time Eater affected the multiverse at large, rather than merely the Prime World
“Affected” idk, the movie verse seems pretty much untouched and doesn’t need to be restored, which if it’s part of the multiverse seems more like an anti-feat for erasing all of space time.

Unless this is actually more of a range feat for Time Eater being able to interfere with other multiverses to a minor degree.

They don't need to show everything that happens in the game. Should every Sonic game be represented in Sonic Generations to accept they got affected to? By the end of the game Sonic defeats the Time Eater and all of space-time is restored, there's no need to show stages for everything Sonic has ever released or will release, as by definition everything is restored to normal after the game ends.

I don’t need them to show everything, but if they’re going out of their way to show one of the realms in the multiverse, and portray it in a way that is different from all the other erased spaces in the game, it seems notable to consider.

Actually, this is Black Doom's doing going by JP dialogue for the new stages. Plus remember, he's messing with the "space-time" of White Space that's being restored to cause anomalies. That's the entire basis of his story

The movie verse is directly stated to be affected by a time anomaly when you boot the DLC up. Sonic entering it through a portal isn't an anti-feat when we see Sonic and Shadow go through a portal to get to the ARK for their fight. Plus Classic Sonic arrives to the Death Egg via a portal, too.

Well, no, the actual text is “an anomaly has appeared in white space”, nothing about the movie verse being erased. That, and the portal is a ring portal, which is different from the other portals, which are either the mirror portal or a purple portal. If anything, the ring emerging from a purple anomaly seems more indicative of TE than Black Doom but, eh.

There we go. Proof Time Eater affected multiple universes. A purple portal made the universe pop-in, similar to Boss Gates, Purple Portals and the mirror thing from the Death Egg Robot fight.
