Prototype general discussion

I mean, you could use PARIAH and create an OC with the things we know about the original.

For example look at "Rosas y Espinas" (dunno how is called in english), it has PARIAH and makes it seem a lot like what we could have expected from the original game and lore but with some more fantastic touches. I personally belive this is the best xover between FoZ and Prototype.

All my knowleadge about FoZ comes from xovers, so I can't help there. Maybe count Mot? You could create an OC.

Well sir you have made a grand mistake! Assuming I can read/speak/write anything other than english (I can barely do that :p)

While pariah is interesting Ive never been sure how to work him into a story, it feels like p2 mercer would try to consume him and p1 mercer is liable to either avoid Pariah or try to consume him.

I usually try to avoid oc's but In this case it seems neccasarry.

Foz/Overlord has been updated!
I've just read it, and I find it to be excellent so far. Keep up the good work.

Also, I hope you don't start making Louise thinking less of Ainz (or even attempt to oppress him) due to being her familiar, especially since she should know that he is the king of a foreign kingdom by now. Louise is a noble, as bratty as she may be, I'm pretty sure she should have enough of a basic common sense (and it's really basic) as a noble to acknowledge the fact that she can't disrespect a royalty without serious consequences (regardless of the fact that he is her familiar).

Also, I've liked that you've started to develop Guiche's character for the better, and I hope you do the same for Louise. It would be difficult for me to tolerate bratty Louise for extended periods of time in your story, so I hope you would start to develop her character for the better as well (while still keeping the core aspects of their personality intact of course. There's a fine line between character development and OOC after all) once Ainz encounters her.

Of course I will! Don't worry louise isn't stupid enough to try and enforce her will on ainz. I will be covering her thoughts in the next chapter. Basically her whole world has fallen apart, the moment that was supposed to prove she was a true mage went wrong.

She summoned something but she couldn't bind it as her familar. Which is a big deal in FOZ, her status as a noble will never be taken seirously due to her not having a familar. Ainz isn't her familar, she never bound him, thus she doesn't have one.

She's not in a good place and is activly avoiding ainz for the moment. Shes a bit lost at the moment.

Ah, so that explains why Ainz hasn't seen nor encountered her in the latest chapter of yours, she has been actively avoiding him.

I will definitely look forward to the next chapter then.

off the wall comment the pope and brimir from FOZ are insane! Ive looked into their stories and they were both preparing for a massive disaster that would destroy the world yet rather than working on a soulution to help stave off/reduce the effects of the coming cotastrophe they focused on wiping out the elves to claim their homelands and resources to survive after the cotastrophe. Even though the elves have the ability to be a great help in staving off the disaster.

I understand why brimir may have felt the genocide was the only way but for gods sake some diplomacy could have gone a long way here.

For reference a form of crystal known as windstone is incredibly vauluable and powerful in helkagia. They use it to power air ships, the problem is there are massive deposists of this ore far beneath the crust of the world. These deposists are destined to rise up and make a majority of the land uninhaptiable.

There plan is to take the elven land and resources to survive after the calamity, the problem with this plan is two fold

One brimir had dimensional door, he could have had a mass exodus to a world not under threat. Its not like the cotastrophe was an immediate threat, brimir knew of the disaster a thousand years before the current series so he had plenty of time.

Two the elves have methods to gather and mine these deep deposists, they can literally help reduce the damage. I won't claim they could get all the ore out safely but they definitly could have made massive headway over the thousand years if humans convinced them to work together.

instead both brimir and the pope accept the disaster is enevitable! Just gave up and went immediatly to genocide!

To be fair elven culture doesn't view the cotastrophe as terrible as humans do as they feel the world and spirits have a balance and it may be fate. Still diplomacy or at least a focus on learning means to duplicate their mining techniques would have gone a long way.

Apparently he did all of that because he really wants his homeland back. And also because he thought that Humanity could be extinct, so he decided that mass genocide of the elves is the only option to save humanity or something.

You know, he feels like one of those "the end justifies the means" type of character...

Thats how hes meant to be seen but it feels redicoulous. s

Except he had to blazingly obvious means to avoid the genocide! He wasn't in an unwinnable sitation, he had other options. He trys to justify his hatred of elves by way of the coming disaster but it doesn't work because he has other options and tons of time!

Sorry he frustrates me because not only is he insane, but he's also stupid. He had an elven familar! They didn't hate eachother, the keys to diplomacy were in his lap but his obsession with genocide led his familar to run him through.

You know what hatred and/or obsession does to people. It clouds their judgement and makes them close-minded. It makes them single-minded.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is what has happened to Brimir (and the pope).

I don't disagree obsession can blind even the greatest of minds, I just find idiocy irriatating....

in the end the pope is less to blame than brimir is, the pope is trying to finish brimirs plans to wipe out the elves but he really is on a time crunch, the disaster is liable to come within the next thirty to one hundred years from what I could find.

I'm not surprised that FoZ is practically full of idiots and buffoons. You've seen how self-centred and conceited the FoZ nobility are like. I've even recalled that the FoZ world hasn't progressed technological-wise (and societal-wise) because of how arrogant they are with their magic (and how "superior" they are to non-magic using "commoners"). What would happen if there weren't any mages around? They might as well be as helpful and useful as newborn babies with the education they seem to have (do they even know Maths? Science such as physics and biology? I don't think so). I wouldn't be surprised if the nobles doesn't know how to farm or do anything productive if you take away their magic.

So many problems could've been solved if they were to technologically and socio-economically advance, but they didn't, hence many of the problems we see in FoZ.

Also, you know about void magic?

Apparently, you need to be one of the direct descendants of Brimir (such as being one of the royal families) to be a candidate for it. And there can only be 4 void mages at a time.

As it turns out, it only stays with their users until they have completed their purposes. Once a Void mages completes their purpose, the Void Magic simply leaves them (leaving the former void mage with whatever elemental affinity they were born with).

Yeah void magic is bizzare it can also be passed on through death, and it only travels amongst brimirs bloodline. I honestly have a fun plan for void magic....but that comes later....

For the record your getting louise next chapter but Im curious why so many people wanted to see her now, I was planning on avoiding her for a few more chapters but people really wanted to know what shes doing. Im curious how do you think louise is doing?

Well, people wanted to see Louise because she was the one who summoned Ainz after all. They probably wanted to see how Louise would react to Sasuga Ainz-sama after the whole summoning ordeal. Who knows, she might even become the next Neia if she's lucky. :p

As for how I think Louise is doing...

I mean, all her life she has been called a failure because of performing spells that are not compatible with her (because they are not void spells), and the Familiar ritual is supposed to proof she isn't a failure. That she isn't a "Zero". Then she goes and summons a being of unfathomable power with the physical form of Death itself (as it appears), a being that she can't ever hope to bind into being her Familiar without Ainz's permission. She pretty much thinks that she's stuck with the label of "Zero" for eternity. She's probably confined into her room and weeping into her pillows in her spare time, while holding everything in while she's in classes or any mandatory studies.

She's probably suffering a mental breakdown at the moment, but some advices and guidance from Sasuga Ainz should help develop her character for the better.

I agree to some extent this is a situation that ainz can help with but you also have to understand in helkeagia culture her failure to obtain a familar is a massive deal.

Her mother and sister have both pushed her to abandon schooling and this is the exact proof they will use against her to get her to leave. She will never be taken seriously as a noble, the familar summoning ritual was her chance to prove she wasn't a noble in only name. Her status won't be stripped from her but it might as well be, she will never be taken seriously in helkagias society, she failed at a ritual brimir himself preformed.

Its almost worse that she managed to summon ainz rather than nothing at all because she now has to deal with a walking incarnation of her failures. People won't just mock her failure, theyll point out how she was to pathetic to even bind her summon. Every harsh insult and word her peers have said about her is flying through her mind at the moment. They have been proven unequivically right.

I wanted to give louise some time to regain herself before reintroducing her to the readers. She isn't simply upset about this, she is destroyed by it.

Ainz can help with his different views on magic and society but louise is in desperate need of some time, She needs time to rebalance herself and find her center.

When she summoned saito she was mocked and others thought she may have simply paid off a commoner but atleast she knew she had proven herself as a mage, with ainz she hasn't.

She failed to prove herself to not only her peers but far more improtantly she has failed to prove to herself she is a mage.

Of course, but I was mainly talking about her viewpoint in the sense of just her peers (as in, the most simplest perspective), so of course she would also suffer in the Helkeagia culture as well.

Hmm. I don't think FoZ has ever explored the idea of familiars (or summoned beings) summoning other beings, so it might be theoretically possible for Ainz to summon one of his creatures and have Louise bind them as her Familiar, maybe. I don't think Ainz would ever accept being bound as Louise's familiar through the summoner connection, especially since she is not only not worthy enough to command Ainz, but Ainz is a king.

But yeah, Louise would need some time for her internal struggles and family expectations. What is the timeframe for when Ainz meets Louise in the next chapter by the way?

I won't lie they aren't meeting yet, (still to soon) instead we will see how louise is doing and she will see some of the changes wrought by ainz. Its going to be a bit before they have a proper interaction.

Sorry but i like taking my time and i don't want to rush from emotional trauma to recovery within a single chapter.

Nice to know.

I understand. Meaningful character interactions and development takes time, and you cannot rush these things without destroying the suspension of disbelief. I'll look forward to those interactions either way.

Since the Alex Mercer vs Mami match is now a stomp, we basically ran out of any decent matches for Mercer now.

Unless you guys can think of something?

Toss him against Cole for the hell of it
Yeah, no. I'm not opening that can of worms. Let's not put Mercer against a character that's basically a perfect counter against his hax.

Yeah, the only characters who I think can give Mercer a decent match at the top of my head are certain Jojo characters, due to their hax. However, the ones that can provide him a decent match is currently having versus matches with other characters.

Pure curiosity speaking, this is not getting added no matter who wins.

Most people who knows about Cole doesn't use the energy output granted to him via creating storms like this site, so they don't think there is much AP gap between them.

There's also the fact that Cole's most impressive resistances to hax abilities aren't really obvious, and can be really subtle due to most of them coming from gameplay. I think.

Glad to hear it! :) (Seriously making me blush :p)

That reminds me what did you think of the last chapter of summoner of death?

Edit maybe answer in general discussion to not further derail.....
I like it. It gives many of the readers (including me) some insight about Louise's dilemma and her personal experiences, as well as how she current perceives Ainz.

I also like the development you further made for Guiche, as he is now gradually becoming better than the spoiled brat that doesn't take responsibility for his own actions like how he does early on in the canon (probably might still be quite entitled later on in the canon though). I haven't found any constructive criticisms outside of typos or grammar yet (which is a good thing, because for someone who has read a lot of fanfic stories, not being able to find proper construct criticisms outside of typos or grammars is a sign of a prospering story. And I personally can ignore typos and grammatical errors as long as it's extremely minor and you have a Beta to deal with them), so good on you.

All I can say is, I am looking forward to the future of those stories (I am even imagining Henrietta's reaction to Ainz right now).

Dang I had hoped to catch most of the grammar/typos....Now Im going to have to look over the chapters again. Thanks for letting me know thought I caught most of them.... I don't have a beta unfortuanatly, Only a spell check.... :p

Try to see if you have the time to get a Beta (and if you prefer to, get one that has knowledge over both FoZ and Overlord, but that's optional of course).

A help from a Beta can definitely help fix some grammatical errors of yours for the long run. Too many errors, even if they are minor ones, can break the immersion of the audience for when they read your stories. And that's not a good thing when they feel like a part of your story in one moment, but then gets pulled out of it in the next because of some mistyped/misused words. It can get a bit jarring. It's the little things that matter after all (and they could matter as much as the big things in this case).

I've read the latest chapter, and the usual words of "I like it" is nowhere near enough to describe what I'm feeling right now. The only closest description I can think of is "I love it!", so kudos for that.

And after that event concerning the ancient vampires of FoZ, all I've got to say is... SASUGA AINZ-SAMA! [Glory to Ainz Ooal Gown!]

Anyways, I would definitely be looking forward to the future of that story. I can't wait to see the interactions between Henrietta (the Princess) and Ainz, as well as Louise's (after she's recovered of course) interactions with Ainz. I know you can't rush perfection (which I can understand), but damn does it feel like I'm getting withdrawal symptoms the more I read and wait for the story's updates, so also kudos for that to.

Sadly, I can't find any constructive criticisms just yet outside of minor grammar and spelling errors (Also kudos for that to you), but good luck in your search for a Beta.

Well you deserve some credit you helped me discover vampires existed in foz! So thanks, I really appreciate the support and it brings a smile to my face to know you enjoyed it!

I also learned minotaurs are a thing in foz as well, they seem to enjoy eating human children...I wonder why that is? In so many fantasy settings minotuars seem to like human meat...

From a scientific standpoint, for monsters of great size and strength (such as Minotaurs), they would need a lot of energy to keep going. In order to sustain their body and strength, they would need a lot of calories and protein. While humans may not be the most tasty creatures to eat (not sure about fictional monsters with preference for eating humans, but most animals in real life doesn't like the taste of our flesh due to the junk food and other consumed substances that are incompatible for them. It's why Sharks, which mainly eats seals, tends to spit us out when they took a bite out of us for a taste test and move on to eating something else), they contain decent amounts of protein and calories for them to feed on. It also doesn't help that humans are pretty much the most common vertebrates/mammals of them all.

As for why fictional monsters (such as Minotaurs) eats human children, I don't really know. I would think the reason why would is that it's a trope to showcase the audience about how terrifying (and monstrous) they are as a cliche trope. I legitimately can't think of any reasons for why they should consume human children, when they don't provide as much calories and protein as the older humans do (because they are still very young, thus don't have much meat to them. It's like trying to eat a pig while it's still a piglet, you won't eat much out of them when it isn't an adult). The only possible reason would be that human children doesn't have as much strength to struggle as the older humans do, but that's stretching it as fictional monsters of large size and strength such as Minotaurs should not be bothered much by that.

From a mythological standpoint, well there's this.

Awesome! :D

Huh so atleast for minotaurs specifically it ties back to ancient mythology....Thats pretty interesting! Thanks for the info :)

From the scientfic standpoint I do understand that but why would they go for humans when we struggle, use weapons and flee.

If there are humans their are bound to be livestock, cattle and chickens other domesticated animals that will struggle far less then humans overall. so the argument children struggle less falls apart even further, if they wanted easy meals they'd go for the livestock.

In the end it's not issue just something that I found rather bizzare.
