Pokemon Discussion Thread - Red & Blue arc

I read something interesting in regards to Kitakami:

"Basically:
Momotaro sails to Onigashima (Oni Island) to retrieve a treasure stolen by the evil Oni. On the way he meets a dog, a monkey and a pheasant, then they beat the onis and get their treasure

DLC
Player travels to a japanese-themed island where they meet a monkey, dog and pheasant themed pokémon and there's Ogerpon, who's based on the oni leader (Oger = ogre = oni)"

"Also, of course, the fact that it's part of the "hidden treasures" DLC and that SS is all about treasures so it fits".

Iron Leafs is 1,5 meters

OOF
Have you been able to find the Pokedex entries? Scans?

I'm not sure if these are the dex entries
Same, but posting anyway. Plus, they resemble the entries many Paradox 'mons get from 1 version, where it'll be mention how it resembles something from the Scarlet/Violet Book & the other mension how it resembles something in a dubious/supernatural magazine or such, IIRC.

Does It Have Some Relation to a Sketch in the Violet Book?

Iron Leaves resembles a sketch made by a member of the Area Zero Expedition in the Violet Book. It has a smooth, glossy body that has a metallic texture, and apparently the glowing parts on its forehead and neck sometimes transform to look like longswords.

Lol, neck blades.

Does It Have Some Relation to a Sketch in the Scarlet Book?

Walking Wake resembles a sketch made by a member of the Area Zero Expedition in the Scarlet Book. It bears a uniquely shaped set of horns on its forehead. It also supports its weight with just its hind legs and walks bipedally.

Very barebones information.

Read this somewhere:
"Let's see... kitakami is a river in the Iwate Prefecture.

Is that one of the areas of japan we've never been to, or was it always covered by a previous game?"
"Looks like it's south of Sinnoh"

So that's another basis for the region.

https://scarletviolet.pokemon.com/en-us/news/new_pokemon/

In Part 1: The Teal Mask, you will encounter Ogerpon, which dons a fearsome mask. In Part 2: The Indigo Disk, Terapagos will appear, resplendent in its glittering aura.

The Heroes of Kitakami: Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti

In Part 1: The Teal Mask, three Pokémon named Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti appear. They are beloved by the people of the village as heroes that protected the land of Kitakami in the past, and stone statues were made in their likeness to express the people’s gratitude toward these three Pokémon.

In Part 1: The Teal Mask and Part 2: The Indigo Disk, you will be able to encounter over 230 familiar Pokémon that have been found living in other regions but which had not appeared in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. As for which Pokémon will appear in Part 1: The Teal Mask and Part 2: The Indigo Disk, please look forward to finding out in your game!

Note: The number above includes Pokémon that you will be able to bring to your game via Pokémon HOME or receive in trades.

Your New Adventures Will Take Place in the Land of Kitakami and Blueberry Academy

In Part 1: The Teal Mask, you will be chosen as one of the students to take part in a school trip that is held each year in collaboration with another school. It will take you to the land of Kitakami. A great mountain towers over the land of Kitakami, and the people live at its base. It is a place of tranquil natural expanses, featuring rice paddies and apple orchards—a new and different experience compared to the Paldea region.
Your trip seems to coincide with a festival regularly held in the village in Kitakami during this season, so the village is bustling with various street vendors and stalls. You’ll meet new friends and Pokémon as you unravel the mysteries behind the folktales that have been passed down in this land.

Studying Abroad at Blueberry Academy, Where Pokémon Battling Flourishes

In Part 2: The Indigo Disk, you will travel to your academy’s sister school, the Blueberry Academy, as an exchange student. Unlike your academy, with its long and storied history, Blueberry Academy is a school that was established in recent years, and its curriculum puts a particular emphasis on Pokémon battling. Most surprising of all is the fact that most of the school’s building is located under the ocean.
You will take part in classes, interact with the local students, and experience school life in this unusual academy.

Characters Featured in This DLC

A New Look for You

In Part 1: The Teal Mask, you’ll put on a traditional jinbei outfit and take part in the festival that’s held annually in the village. In Part 2: The Indigo Disk, you’ll don the uniform of Blueberry Academy as an exchange student and get a taste of student life at a new school.

The New Characters You’ll Meet

As your adventures unfold, you will meet a variety of characters. Let’s meet Kieran and Carmine, a brother and sister who appear in both Part 1: The Teal Mask and Part 2: The Indigo Disk. These two call Kitakami home, and they attend Blueberry Academy as students.
Carmine, the elder sister of the pair, is strong-willed and can be a little selfish, but she always looks out for her little brother—even if she isn’t the best at showing it. Word is that she can be chilly toward people from other regions.
Her little brother, Kieran, has a quiet, gentle nature, and he often hides behind his big sister. It seems he’s curious about you, though, when you arrive from the Paldea region.

Had a thought, recently:

Bad news:
The Pokemon website's info, the Occulture entries, & the Pokedex's info often tend to be quite similar for Pokemon, Paradox Pokemon especially, even if the Pokedex does frame Occulture's writings with suspicion.
Meaning what's on the website may already be pretty much all we're going to get.
Good news:
Something a lot of people might have forgotten since reading the Occulture Entries is that they're NUMBERED & dated.
Each game has 7 Paradoxes written about in Occulture's Enigmas of Paldea section (Koraidon & Miraidon are excluded.), & 7 months & 7 numbers are covered, matching what month of the year they are. April is Enigmas of Paldea #4, May is #5, June is #6, July is #7, August is #8, September is #9, & October is #10.

Meaning if there's to be Occulture issues for the whole in-game year, we're missing 5 issues per game!
We've at best, filled 5 of that quota. (2 Raidons, Terapagos & its likely evolution, & Walking Wake & Iron Leaves.)

So we might have to hope for more Occulture's Enigmas of Paldea for more "lore" on Walking Wake & Iron Leaves.
Argh.

I decided to look at the 3rd Legendary's page & transcribe it. Since I can't type blocks, I put in however many underscores for the amount of letters those blocks are in place of.

While sep__ated from the resea__h team in the crater's dep__s, I found a s__ange...en__ty. Whether it was a __kemo_, or even _ liv _ at all, I kn_w no_. It bore a s__ll with layers of o__rlapping he__gons, and glea__d brig__er still than _mstone. Vie__d as a whole, it res___led a mys___ious, __illiant d_sk.

The removed letters:

ar

th
tr
ti
Po
n
a
e
o
t
he
ve
xa
me
ht
ge
we
em
emb
ter
br
i

In total:
16 of the blocks replace 2 letters.
6 of the blocks replace 1 letter.
2 of the blocks replace 3 letters.

There are 21 blocks in total.

Of course, all this applies only to the English localization, not the original Japanese....

But it's way MORE consistent for the blocks to indicate 2 characters than 1, even though it's probably any amount the creators choose.
So if people are trying to extrapolate what are LITERALLY, STATEDLY Scarlet/Violet Book smudges, then it's more likely the 3rd Legendary has a TWELVE letter name! (Even though 6 would be fitting for a Hexagon themed thing.)

So, gonna try to do detail this out:
1. A kid, Xiaojun, has a busy dad. Finds dad's Game Boy, has never seen a Game Boy. Game Boy isekais him.
Note from me: Seeing a Paras in broad daylight feels weird.
2. Meets another kid named Daming, a famous Pokemon Trainer.
Note: CHARIZARD in broad daylight in forest. Okay that's weird.
3. Narrowly dodges a fireball from a Charizard, wakes up. A dream? Wonders if Daming wasn't his dad?
4. Kid tries another Game Boy. Presumably a GBC; 1st one was Gray, this one is Yellow. Now he's on Lapras with someone (Daming again?), at sea, talking about going over a big vortex (Gen 2 Whirlpool reference?) to get to an island. They decide to just try & go right through it, & as he shirks as Lapras takes the order, he awakes again.
5. Told to be quiet, he wishes Dad was like he was in the game. (Pokemon games with a co-op campaign??)
6. We see regular gameplay of games for Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos game, briefly.
7. Xiaojun gets pulled in again, & is riding a Latias. (OR/AS?) Daming(?) is riding a Latios. (Also, at this point, the subs call the other guy "Damin"? Typo?)
Note: Weren't ride Latias & ride Latios Megas in OR/AS?
8. Brief clips of the two. Daming calling on Infernape when facing Dialga, N's Reshiram attacking Damin(g)'s Zekrom, Damin(g) sends out Emboar, Daming having Charizard use Smokescreen against Yveltal & throwing a Poke Ball at it.
9. Back to reality. Xiaojun concludes it really is his dad, & thinking that his dad is so cool, wonders again, why his dad never plays with him.
10. Booting up Moon or Ultra Moon, Xiaojun seems to be in... Ultra Space? He drifts, searching for Dad/Daming.
11. Daming finishes work, yawns, & looks for Xiaojun... & panics when he sees the 3DS on on the couch & his games & consoles on the table. In Ultra Space(?), Daming flies in, on Lunala & grabs Xiaojun.
12. Daming asks who lets him play it, Xiaojun asks if he's his dad. Xiaojun explains he found it under the sofa.
13. Sudden rock dodging ensues, & after a bit, Lunala goes into a portal. Both tumble out on the other side, Lunala gone, & a Pikachu appears out of Daming's Poke Ball.
14. Mewtwo is here! It's stated as very dangerous, & after waiting a bit, blasts spots near them. Xiaojun urges his dad to just catch it, dad says it's not that easy & to battle first. But he stumbles & drops his balls & other items. His other Pokemon, a Tsareena, Sylveon, Psyduck, Charizard, & Midnight Lycanroc are sent out.
Note: Wow Daming, what a team. Why does he just have an unevolved Psyduck in an Alola Region game?
15. Xiaojun finds an Ultra Ball from the bag, & notes it's a ball he hasn't seen before. (I believe it, considering how short his isekais have been.)
Note: Subs spell "Pikachu" as "Picachu" here. Neat!
16. Daming orders Pikachu to use Thunderbolt, Pikachu runs straight ahead, with very little effort to dodge, yet still dodging Mewtwo's blasts. THEN it jumps & Thunderbolt. Damng also has Charizard use Flamethrower, & Tsareena to use Razor Leaf. However, Mewtwo blasts Tsareena, sending it to the ground & the blast hits where the humans are, too.
17. As the smoke clears, everyone is still worn out..... Except Psyduck, front & center, now showing a headache. Daming tells Psyduck it's your turn & has it use Confusion. It barely does anything, & Psyduck collapses, dizzy.
18. Daming has Charizard Mega Evolve. They're a little surprised when it flies around. Then it evolves into Mega Charizard X. Flamethrower. Mewtwo looks a little surprised, & actually flies to evade, with Charizard turning to follow with its Flamethrower. The intensity of the Flamethrower stream varies. Mewtwo flies through some high pillars. Charizard flies after. Mewtwo flies up into the clouds. A glint in the sky. Mewtwo's Psychic attack clashes with Mega Charizard X's body, before sending it flying through 1 rock pillar, to impact on another. Daming orders Fire Blast. Mega Charizard X spreads its wings, stomps & roars, then shoots a big beam of fire. Mewtwo uses Light Screen (I think?) while Fire Blast erupts into the classic 大 Kanji shape on impact. Mewtwo focuses, & makes the blasts erupt out in multiple straight lines, to explode on the other nearby pillars.
19. Fatigued, Daming recalls 1 of his Pokemon & Psyduck (Pikachu is visibly left out.), thinking it's too dangerous, & needs to "send out" Xiaojun. (Presumably, get him out of here. Weird, since it was automatic before.). Xiaojun asks about trying to use that big smoke move Charizard used, trying to recall the name. They both remember it at the same time: Smokescreen. Daming asks how Xiaojun knows his classic tactics. Xiaojun admits he has played with Daming for a long time.
Note: Sylveon & Lycanroc didn't even do anything! You jobbers!
20. Daming agrees, so long as Xiaojun doesn't do something risky like this in the future or such. As they get onto Mega Charizard X's back, Xiaojun asks his dad if he can teach him to be a powerful trainer, but Daming orders Mega Charizard X to take Xiaojun away & use Smokescreen. As Mega Charizard X ascends, Xiaojun asks Dad why he isn't comng, but Daming just orders Smokescreen, which covers Daming & Pikachu as they run towards Mewtwo
Note: Subbers somehow subtitled Pikachu as "Pikachuachu." here.
21. Mewtwo's eyes can be seen glowing in the smoke. Daming tells Pikachu to use Thunder to get Mewtwo's attention. Pikachu strikes the top of a rock pillar with a bolt of lightning, sending out a shockwave. Mewtwo's eye glow, & it seems to teleport.
22. Daming & Pikachu are on an open part of a high up rock pillar. A Psychic blast comes from the sky for them. Pikachu just stares at it, Daming dives to grab/shield Pikachu. As the smoke clears, Daming is worn out, while Mewtwo approaches by hover. Pikachu, noticing Mewtwo, jumps in front of Daming. Daming tells Pikachu to get ready to battle.
22. Down from the sky, comes Xiaojun, riding Mega Charizard X, with an air drag cone around them. He's come to help! Xiaojun tells Mega Charizard X to use Flamethrower. As Mewtwo blocks it with Charizard flying towards them, Xiaojun throws the Ultra Ball at Mewtwo. The Ultra Ball falls, & Xiaojun celebrates catching it. Daming tells him the Ultra Ball "can only support it for a while". With the ball at rest, they fly away on Mega Charizard X. Daming says he's taking risks, but he did a good job. 3 shakes, & Mewtwo comes back out, uncaught. It watches with just a noise as they fly out of a portal.
23. They celebrate, & colour comes to their grayscale home. Daming's phone rings. He says he has to go to work & that this is their secret. As Daming talks on the phone, Xiaojun observes that his dad is still busy, but that it feels like something is different, & affirms that this is his dad.
24. A shelf with various things, like photos, books & including what looks like a Poke Ball trophy? Panning to the computer desks, two handheld mode Switches are on & active there.
25. In a Galar Stadium, against a Gigantamax Cinderace & an Eiscue, with Daming's Charizard already out, Xiaojun sends out Mewtwo. Dad calls himself "famous Daming", & the son calls himself "invincible Xiaojun", before saying "Let's battle!". Mewtwo flies towards the screen as it fades out for credits.
24. Credits is not them battling, but Daming riding a bicycle with Xiaojun... atop the back wheel's fender? Nonetheless, he's staring & pointing at the stars in the sky.

I guess there's Mega Charizard X Powerscaling info. Stuff for Mewtwo. At least behaviour stuff.

Your thoughts, all?

I'm unsure what exactly I saw

Are the handhelds simply portals to the Pokémon world, or the Pokémon world exists in the handheld

Well that'll put many mega Evolution on that level 🧘‍♂️
If they scale to a trained Mega Charizard X, probably.

Though, this is twice a trained Mega Charizard X has matched base Mewtwo, no? (Pokemon Origins.)

Also, dang, the favoritism really showed in this:
1. In an Alola Region (Gen 7) game, Daming's team had 3 Gen 1 Pokemon (Charizard, Pikachu & Psyduck, the latter 2 likely being anime references; Why else would he have an unevolved Psyduck on an Alola Team. Not like you needed HM Slaves in that game.), plus an Evolution of a Gen 1 Pokemon (Sylveon).
2. Of his Gen 7 Pokemon, Tsareena tried to use Razor Leaf, but Mewtwo blasted it, as well as Daming, his team, & his son for Tsareena's trouble. Tsareena not only failed to attack, but failed protect despite being in the line of fire & being the target. Tsareena did arguably worse than a jobber. & Lycanrock Midnight (& Sylveon!) didn't even get to do that much!

Good question, but considering at the end that they flew out through what looked like an Ultra Wormhole, maybe they are connected?
But earlier, didn't Xiaojun seem to wake up from one like it was a dream? & while we ignore titles unless there's evidence to support involving them, IIRC, the title is "Journey into Dreams".... Maybe they're portals into other worlds/dreams??
Maybe the different consoles work in different ways? Some are portals, some take you into dreams?

I'm not very sure. Can other people watch & weigh in on this, please?

Bruh, this is Mewtwo, they all gotta job to make he and TPC beloved Charizard look good

That's true. What they flew through and flew out of looked like an Ultra Wormhole.

The ending is the weirdest part, because the games were running on the switch as they were inside of it. Hmmph.

Who do you mean by "he" here, if you'll forgive my asking?

I mean, IIRC, we see the other consoles were running while they were inside.

Like when Daming noticed the 3DS was on & panicked when he was looking for Xiaojun.

Who do you mean by "he" here, if you'll forgive my asking?
Mistake. But yeah, Mega Charizard has been shown to be equal to base Mewtwo. Actually doesn't surprise me, Mega Evolution was described in Oras as a whole other level of power, so it falls in line with being comparable to Legendaries.

But what does game Mewtwo even scale to?
I mean, IIRC, we see the other consoles were running while they were inside.

Yup. It seems Daming's player Avatar was the one interacting with the player until he took control, hence, it's Daming name.

I don't know what this grants tho.

IDK. Anyone knowledgeable?

Ah, yeah. You mean that Daming's avatar & Daming himself are kind of distinct entities?
I don't know what this grants tho.
Multiple selves? Avatar creation? I'm not sure myself.

IDK. Anyone knowledgeable?
Id have to ask in that crt revising the scaling
Ah, yeah. You mean that Daming's avatar & Daming himself are kind of distinct entities?
Yup. Seems that's his avatar. So some of the Ultra Wormholes lead to entire simulated game worlds that humans from another world play after creating them? It gets murky pretty quick when you think about it.
Multiple selves? Avatar creation? I'm not sure myself.
Same. Id ask around

Also why does China get everything?

But what does game Mewtwo even scale to?
We're still trying to sort that out. Right now, we have two options:

1. At least 6-C, via being the strongest of the original 151
2. High 6-A, via being fought after the Gen 6 Legendaries

Hunh. Would it be unreasonable to have that Mewtwo scale to the player's mons that can Mega Evolve?

Also, do we know if the Mewtwo that Team Rocket made & the Pokemon Village Mewtwo are separate individuals or not?
Also, why aren't Possibly or Likely options, especially considering at least 1 of those Mewtwo doesn't TECHNICALLY have to be "fought", just survived against long enough to catch with a ball?
....Well, okay, there are scenarios where it is fought to fainting, as jarring as that is, lol.

AAA

For those who can't read that Twitter link, or don't want to use Twitter:

"Like with SWSH 1.2.0, in SV 1.2.0, GF have deleted Pokédex entries for a lot of Pokémon, instead of stubbing them. Included in the list are all of the currently confirmed returning Pokémon for DLC, like Yanma. Here's the list I've compiled:
"

From the comments:
"NobleEgg | Certified E-boy
@EggOfNobleArms Feb 27
Replying to @mattyoukhana_
Out of curiosity, when GF deleted dex entries in SWSH, how many of those mons did and did not make it to the DLC? Or did all of them?
Matt @mattyoukhana_ Feb 27
Replying to @EggOfNobleArms
Every single one of the deleted entries made it into the DLC. There was one exception that was stubbed, but then got added in DLC (Magearna)."

Pokedex entries aren't actually in the list. Presumably, by "Pokedex entries", they mean "Is the Pokemon in the Pokedex at all".

I don't actually know if there's whole unused strings of Pokedex entries to read, sadly. : (
But it looks like a list of around 223 species of Pokemon to return, who might get Pokedex entries with the DLC.

Also, 2 things of note:
1. Every starter species.
2. None of the Legendaries EXCEPT Enamorus.... Which is very weird considering Enamorus can only be found in P:LA, which has tons of other Legendaries. Are they really not going to let us transfer any of Hisui/Sinnoh's Legendaries except that one?!
