not gonna lie, usopp really pissed me off during the whole sugar thing. His cowardice doesn’t usually bother me but just straight leaving people to die feels so out of character for him like we already went threw this all the way back in arlong park and it’s not like he has stuck his neck out for strangers before(saving genzo) plus Franky was literally distracting the executives so they could beat sugar so he almost screwed him over to. Overall just a terrible moment for long nose

Usopp’s always been a bitch, yes. But one thing consistent to him is that he stepped up when his friends needed him to, in some form or another.
I would argue Usopp, at this point in his character development, shouldn't have run away. especially after being portrayed as generally braver and more confident during the early time-skip.

Usopp ain't never step up for nobody. He stepped up when forced to.

I haven’t gotten that far but that’s blantaly untrue. In arlong park he literally had the perfect out but decided to come back in and take out chew. Hell he literally saved genzo in the same arc when he didn’t even know him.

The Ulti moment is also something that SHOULDN'T have happened in the first place. Usopp went through a similar situation in Alabasta and flat-out starting yelling about how much he believed in Luffy's dream, despite being crippled JUST as badly.
Usopp's stepped up tons of times. Deciding to defeat Chu instead of faking his own death (Which would have worked), literally invading a government train and participating in the raid of Enies Lobby to save Robin, etc. Usopp doesn't step up when it's simply his ass on the line. He steps up because he actually, fundamentally cares about his friends. To think he's so self-serving that he only rises to the occasion when forced to is a misunderstanding of his character.

When he lied his ass off every day for years and almost got his entire village killed, only with the Straw Hats saving his village and his biggest W was Kaya. Didn't do shit of relevance.
When he ran away from Chew and everybody else after getting a sneak shot and was forced to fight him.
When he did nothing at all except get bodied by Mr. 5.

He was in Skypiea to get bitched the entire arc. His best moment was scamming civilians for dials with a rubber band.
When he caused the largest piece of drama the crew has ever seen and didn't do anything. Showing emotion ≠ good or brave

Usopp not being relevant isn't a character failing on his part tbh. It's Oda not giving one of his, arguably, better-written characters much time in the spotlight.

Ungodly amounts of cap, and probably just a bit of tomfoolery. But, I do think it's funny that Moron chose some of the worst possible arcs.
And, honestly, Usopp does get shafted a lot. If it wasn't for Usopp being in the opening, I probably would've forgot that he was in the Baratie Arc.
Literally none of the Straw Hats, besides Luffy, directly did shit here.

Daruma wasn't a legitimate threat, but he wasn't fodder.
Usopp pussied out for a bit, but he was legit one of the reasons Luffy beat Doflamingo.
Nami would be dead if he hadn't been taking hits from Ulti.
And of course, now he's sorta just manning the comms for the crew.
