I think it depends iirc some genjutsu is described as affecting the senses AND the chakra network.
Sharingan Genjutsu should imo since it injects chakra from the user into someone. If Sasuke or Itachi injected chakra into someone's brain/nervous system, I could see them affecting their senses regardless of chakra network.

Nah that's the MS iirc in Itachi's LN don't know about the regular S though. Shisui says he can side step some stuff and directly inject chakra into the person and it takes less time then a normal one iirc. I think he mentions a flow of chakra I don't remember cause I'm reading the Sakura novel atm.

The shinju absorbs life energy (stamina, also called chakra) and converts it into chakra, this is mentioned in Deppa's arc.
