Chandler and Cusack's deaths are gratuitous, in my opinion.

Also Griamore outright says Meliodas' power is on par with the Demon King.

Clichés exist and continue to exist because they've been proven to work hundreds of times over. Subverting expectations and avoiding clichés is not inherently bad or good, it's about how it's executed.

Yeah. Cliches are not always a bad thing. And as time goes on they will be unavoidable.
