Marshal D. Teach (One Piece) vs Garnet (Steven Universe)

Once again, here are two fighters of considerable strength. Speed will be equalized, the battle will be in Beach City, and both fighters will have a week of preparation time.

Well...Garnet is High 6-C whereas Blackbeard is only 6-C, Garnet has precog and is immune to gravity manipulation, and she already has a win over Whitebeard who is stronger than Blackbeard...

Well still Blackbeard got the Gura-Gura Fruit powers from Whitebeard's death, which give him the ability to launch quakes in the air like how Whitebeard could. With this he could create a quake that targets Garnet's Gems.

Garnet already has a win over Whitebeard, who's quakes are stronger than Blackbeard's, but Blackbeard lacks Whitebeard's precognition and Garnet would be able to resist the Yami Yami Fruit. And she's High 6-C, whereas Blackbeard is just 6-C.

This is likely a stomp match, considering that Garnet has a win over Whitebeard, who is stronger than Blackbeard.

However, I will wait until more input. One of Blackbeard's abilities states that:

nullify Devil Fruit abilities by simply touching an opponent and absorb physical matter, energy as well as attacks of any type by sucking it into darkness.
Perhaps Marshall D has a hax advantage in this matchup?

Oh that's something I forgot. If Blackbeard gets close enough he could possibly just absorb Garnet's attacks and maybe even Garnet herself.

Garnet still has precog, so she'll almost definitely see that as a potential outcome and take action to avoid it.

Well even so, if Blackbeard can get one good hit on Garnet (which will happen at one point as Garnet will probably get in close to attack him), Garnet could be defeated by being absorbed into the darkness.

Blackbeard is now at HIGH 6C as well. I believe he would take Garnet High difficulty as he managed to damage Shanks and should be stronger than Old Whitebeard.

Yeah now that Blackbeard is now High 6-C, this fight should be fair. Anybody else have any comments before it's time to vote on who wins?

Well technically if you could read the discussion, it appears Garnet would win, but it would be hard for her to win due to Blackbeard's Yami-Yami no Mi's ability to absorb attacks, combined with the fact Blackbeard is now High 6-C now.

Garnet will probably step near BB to strike him and he can absorb her, he can take in living creators with his Black Hole so I doubt he would hesitate against her. Even if Garnet somehow figures out that he can do that to her and tries to stay away, BB can pull her into him with his DF powers like he did to Ace.

He is naturally durable enough to tank her attacks as he scales off other Yonko and his DF being a logia type makes him naturally intangible.

BB wins with mid to high diff because of DF hax.

Current BB doesn't win this unfortunately, in part due to his lack of post-skip feats and the related lack of any displayed haki abilities aside from being aware of the power's existence when facing Luffy in Impel Down.

Blackbeard thus has a lot of disadvantages here. He doesn't have precog haki to counteract Garnet's ability (which is more versatile and powerful anyhow), his fruit causes him to take increased damage which is very bad against a heavy hitter like Garnet, she has no DF for him to negate by touch, his 'pulling' ability won't work on Garnet since it was explicitly stated to be gravity which Garnet auto-adjusts for... the list goes on.

Blackbeard has only two chances to win this - the first is to hit Garnet with a concentrated tremor attack before she can summon and close her gauntlets, which might shatter her gems because the shockwave bypasses a lot of normal durability, and in her default mode the gems are exposed. However, when she summons her gauntlets she fights with them closed, shielding them from impact, and those gauntlets have some damn good durability, so that chance disappears as soon as the fight starts in earnest. That aside, he won't know that those things are a weak spot anyway so it's very debatable that he'll make that move to begin with, or that Garnet wouldn't be able to see it coming and summon her Gauntlets earlier.

His second chance is to absorb Garnet physically with his darkness. However, his Black Hole technique is notably slower than his vortex (which is basically as fast as his reflexes from what we've seen) and doesn't reach anything but the ground. Given that the battle takes place in Beach City Garnet will have ample opportunity to seek the higher ground and counterattack or flee from the attack's range. Even if she can't do that in time though the ability hasn't been shown to be able to just absorb anybody without limit - he didn't absorb Whitebeard, for example. Whether this is due to his cockiness or the limitations of Black Hole is unknown but I'm not gonna assume that his ability can do more than absorb inanimate objects and grunt marines until shown or stated otherwise.

And then there's the matter of preparation time - yeah, this is just an advantage for Garnet again with her precognition. The weakness of her ability is that she can only see so many possible outcomes or see so far into the future while in fast-paced combat, but if she has the time to prepare for a fight she knows is going to take place a week beforehand... She'll basically learn all of Blackbeard's abilities before the fight begins while Blackbeard will have nothing useful to go off of, so his longterm planning skill won't help him there.

Garnet takes this low to mid diff.

Garnet's body auto-adjusts for gravitational changes, so he can't pull her in since that ability was explicitly stated to be gravity-based.

Blackbeard's durability is only likely Large Island level, which means that he'll likely survive getting hit by one attack of that potency, but Garnet has that level of Attack Potency which means that each of her strongest hits have power on that level - Blackbeard won't survive a volley of punches from Garnet, especially not with the increased pain he experiences.

Finally, Blackbeard is not intangible, that's stated to be an explicit weakness of his particular fruit even though it is a Logia type. He's stated this himself two times at least as far as I can recall and it's been demonstrated several times too when he took hits from attacks his intangibility should've protected him from if he had it (most ranged fire attacks from Ace, for example).

Far from all of his attacks are gravity based, for example his Black Hole simply consumes you whole and crushes you. I doubt it's even actual gravitation as in the manga it's written in quotation marks, it's likely just his body sucking you in.

The attack potency goes both ways since BB also attacks at a large island scale (he was island scale against ace and now WB's fruit makes him much stronger), and that can be performed without even actually touching the island, he can land that attack on Garnet from afar through the air (as did Whitebeard).

Yeah I made a mistake, thank you for pointing that out, I didn't entirely remember the chapter, but he stated that he can't "fend an attack" which is sorta cryptic and that he feels pain a lot more, which actually makes his pain tolerance really impressive. I am sure he probably figured some form of defence by now but that's speculation.

Back then he hasn't mastered it and it's safe to assume that he just couldn't turn all of his body into darkness (because every DF user ever struggled with their new powers at the beginning, look no farther than Sabo, Tashigi and Kaku for examples), and that doesn't refute that the moment Garnet strikes him he'll swallow her into his body or just leach all of her strength (the only reason he didn't do it to Ace was because he wanted to capture him without killing him).

What isn't speculation is that Garnet will lose power the moment she touches him as Blackbeard can suck energy out of people, and if he gets a grip on her she would just succumb to that. Blackbeard is not above playing dirty.

I didn't even entirely get into his other devil fruit, the fruit he got from Whitebeard is one that goes through natural durability as it passes through your entire body and the space around you, meaning that it's hax. This is surely going to damage Garnet severly from afar and upclose. Whitebeard could create bubbles around a large humans head and cause their head to undergo an earthquake from within, Blackbeard could do this to Garnet and press onto it until she is crushed.

In summary, even if Blackbeard couldn't pull her in touching he would weak her out with the Darkness fruit and he can bypass her natural durability with Whitebeard's fruit along side superior ranged attacks.
