How exactly does she have the ap advantage when Steven upscales from the feat in the OP via a sizable chain of oneshots?

Hell, how does having the ap advantage alone let her win when steven is signicifantly more skilled than her and is fully capable of fighting. You're acting like he is purely defensive and if his defense is bypassed then he immediately dies

Yes, he had near-daily combat training sessions with Connie and Pearl, the latter of whom is able to easily pick apart an opponent's fighting style to the point of being able to solo teams of Gems designed solely to be exceedingly skilled in combat, and the latter of whom went from never having held a sword before to being able to match Pearl in skill in only a few weeks and developing fighting instincts so strong that she instinctively flipped a guy and broke his arm without even realizing it because he bumped into her
