Unfortunately for Nicholas and Donte, their attempts would prove most insufficient.
While Nicholas' stomp did manage to briefly blow back some of the fumes surrounding him, the respite he might have gained was too insignificant to make a difference, for the fumes simply refilled any space that he might have cleared. Nicholas ended up quickly collapsing as the effects took hold, causing him to uselessly stomping at the air for a moment.
Donte's sand breath fell disappointingly short of his target; the fumes were starting to mess with the survivors' minds by this point, putting them into a state of stupor. Thus, the sand Donte exhaled simply spilled out of his mouth as though he had vomited.
The survivors remained effectively trapped in their catatonic state, beset by the hallucinations caused by the blue fire. For nearly a half hour the flames burned, its effects also transpiring to the surrounding wildlife; many animals had collapsed from the fumes, some plummetting to their deaths from the skies or trees, and others just falling upon the ground they stood upon.
The fumes, however, had a rather different effect on a different lifeform.
The creaking of wood steadily grew louder as a large shape moved its way through the trees, towards the campfire. Trees collapsed, snapped in two or were smashed to splinters, as a huge herbivore stepped into the clearing. The beast resembled a giant tortoise, 130 feet tall, 185 feet long, and 3,500 tons, a charcoal black in color, with sizable claws, a long tail ending in an ankylosaurian club, and many blue mushrooms covering its carapace, alongside trees that bore the same coloration as the branches the survivors had tried burning.
Disregarding the fallen survivors, the giant tortoise barely missed stepping on them as it made its way over to the blue fire. Lowering its boxlike head, the chelonian parted its beaked jaws and bit down on the ground the flames were atop. Clamping down with enough force to rend steel, the turtle consumed the burning branches alongside the very dirt they had been lain upon. Gulping down its mouthful, the tortoise continued on its way, paying no attention to the survivors' glasshouse it casually crushed beneath its feet as it made its way through the trees, crushing much foliage and some of the catatonic animals unfortunate enough to be in its way.
It would take several more minutes, but eventually the fumes' effects would pass; the surviving fauna and the survivors would slowly regain consciousness and regain control over their bodies.
