As soon as the spear struck the branch pile, a brilliant spark of embers shot up from the collison of magma against wood, before the pile ignited as a bright blue flame was born. The fire was of a pretty decent size, large enough to engulf nearly the entirety of the branches that had been gathered, with small wisps occassionally flying upwards into the sky. A dark blue smoke steadily travelled upwards from the fire, a darker richer shade of azure compared to the flames.

"I don't think fire is supposed to look like that normally. I believe this may be cause for concern. I would avoid breathing in the fumes if I were you."

The survivors, though correct in their concern, sorely underestimated just what the blue flames were capable of.

It had not even been a minute before the fumes generated by the fire had subtly began making its way through the clearing the survivors were in. With each breath they took, the group inadvertently took in more and more of the fumes.

Quickly, the effects of the fire were sinking in. The survivors' vision started to blue, the surrounding landscape beginning to turn a rich shade of blue as the sky took on a pink hue. Their legs wobbling as they lost their balance, the survivors collapsed as they felt like they were flying, the environment looking as though the world was just zooming on by. From an outside perspective, one could see that the survivors' eyes were glowing blue, whilst the blue fire kept on steadily burning.

While Nicholas had moved further away from the fire earlier, hoping to mitigate any adverse effects the fumes might have, he still remained in the clearing. The moment he noticed the effects showing themselves, he had started to attempt to disperse the smoke around him with smaller scale shockwaves, as the effects began setting in he thought to himself.

"Must.. get.. out of here.."

...... huh, feels like college.

Between the high and "earthquake", I was soon to fall over. Taking a deep breath, I exhale violently at what I think is the direction of the fire in an attempt to snuff it out.

Unfortunately for Nicholas and Donte, their attempts would prove most insufficient.

While Nicholas' stomp did manage to briefly blow back some of the fumes surrounding him, the respite he might have gained was too insignificant to make a difference, for the fumes simply refilled any space that he might have cleared. Nicholas ended up quickly collapsing as the effects took hold, causing him to uselessly stomping at the air for a moment.

Donte's sand breath fell disappointingly short of his target; the fumes were starting to mess with the survivors' minds by this point, putting them into a state of stupor. Thus, the sand Donte exhaled simply spilled out of his mouth as though he had vomited.

The survivors remained effectively trapped in their catatonic state, beset by the hallucinations caused by the blue fire. For nearly a half hour the flames burned, its effects also transpiring to the surrounding wildlife; many animals had collapsed from the fumes, some plummetting to their deaths from the skies or trees, and others just falling upon the ground they stood upon.

The fumes, however, had a rather different effect on a different lifeform.

The creaking of wood steadily grew louder as a large shape moved its way through the trees, towards the campfire. Trees collapsed, snapped in two or were smashed to splinters, as a huge herbivore stepped into the clearing. The beast resembled a giant tortoise, 130 feet tall, 185 feet long, and 3,500 tons, a charcoal black in color, with sizable claws, a long tail ending in an ankylosaurian club, and many blue mushrooms covering its carapace, alongside trees that bore the same coloration as the branches the survivors had tried burning.

Disregarding the fallen survivors, the giant tortoise barely missed stepping on them as it made its way over to the blue fire. Lowering its boxlike head, the chelonian parted its beaked jaws and bit down on the ground the flames were atop. Clamping down with enough force to rend steel, the turtle consumed the burning branches alongside the very dirt they had been lain upon. Gulping down its mouthful, the tortoise continued on its way, paying no attention to the survivors' glasshouse it casually crushed beneath its feet as it made its way through the trees, crushing much foliage and some of the catatonic animals unfortunate enough to be in its way.

It would take several more minutes, but eventually the fumes' effects would pass; the surviving fauna and the survivors would slowly regain consciousness and regain control over their bodies.

Nicholas gets up and observes the surrounding area.

"Damn, I did not expect the effects to be that potent. It seems something big has stepped through here, judging by the massive footprints and crushed house, thankfully I'm fine though."

Nicholas approaches Igneus.

"You feel alright? Seems we'll have to rebuild our shelter."

Hearing Nicholas, I decide to lazily throw up more sand in prepararion for rebuilding the shelter.

"I think ...... we shouldn't have a fire. I dunno how many times we can risk getting high."

Whilst the survivors talked amongst themselves, numerous fauna were following the path created by the tortoise. Several large birds, resembling jays the size of Utahraptors with dark blue and gray feathers, were flying around picking off any bugs or other smaller animals stirred up by the giant tortoise. The avians didn't seem to pay any mind to the survivors as they continued on into the forest.

"Alright, just have her cook the fish with her lava spear directly then." Nicholas responds.

"Should we try and hunt down some of these passerby?"

"Eh, we should work with what we got. Considering what the wood can do, I bet those animals will probably do something weird to." She creates a magma spear, ready to cook the fish.

"Plants and animals are a bit different but I see where you are coming from. Either way, lets hold off on getting more food until we have a way to preserve it."

As if to prove Igneus' point, one of the birds opened its beak, before a pair of blood red pharyngeal jaws shot out of its mouth to bite down on a beetle, before quickly retracting back into the avian's mouth.

"Fair enough. Though we should expect to face such enemies should we remain on this island. Also, we should probably reconstruct our house. Don't want a repeat of what happened in the fissure."

Eyes widening at the sight of Alien reference in front of me, I turn to the others.

"Are we seriously going to just ignore the horror bird? Kaiju and megafauna are one thing but that is most certainly another. How are you guys just brushing it off?"

"We've seen plenty of unusual things on this island already. It's clear this place is nothing like the normal world we know. Why would that stand out to us?"

The fish being cooked by Igneus showed no strange reaction; they simply lay limp as they simmered.

The fish had been cooked to a crispy brown, and still bore no unusual reactions. They just seemed like regular fish by all means.

The fish just tasted like your standard fish; there was no strange and/or alarming flavor of any kind.

"I will take care of it, if you insist."

Nicholas gets up, he stomps his foot down with a decent bit of force, launching a shockwave to cover the area the worms were emerging from.

The worms were promptly blown away by Nicholas' shockwave stomp, letting out gurgling cries as they flew away into the forest.

A mistake.

A big, meaty mistake.

In just a few moments afterwards, the ground before the survivors began trembling and shaking. Subtly at first, but the intensity of the vibrations rapidly grew stronger and stronger. Something was making its way to the surface.

That something erupted out from the earth, bringing a cascade of dirt raining down upon the survivors. As the newly arrived monster let out a gurgling snarl, the dirt fell to reveal a monstrous wormlike creature dragging itself out from the earth. 30 feet long and 400 pounds, the beast resembled a Skullcrawler, but with the same reddish-brown coloration as the smaller worms, and oddly the same depressed-looking visage.

Parting its toothy jaws, the Meatcrawler snarled at the survivors, before charging forward with a vengeance.
