Is Kagerou Project part of VOCALOID?

Just noticed we had a page for VOCALOID. The Kagerou Project is actually part of VOCALOID if I remember right. Does this mean we should merge the verses? Not really sure about it; I just watched and liked Mekakucity.

I'm not knowledgeable enough about the Kagerou Project, but from what I can gather, it's just a verse that started as a bunch of VOCALOID-made songs tied together in a single verse that eventually spawned the rest of the series.

If so then no, it isn't part of the VOCALOID verse. VOCALOID is first and foremost a music-making program. While there is a verse built around the characters part of said program (Miku and all the rest), songs made with the programs aren't necessarily part of said verse. Thus, a song that uses Miku's voice as its singer won't necessarily make "Hatsune Miku" the one singing and it could instead be another character that just uses her voice.

This is comparable to BlackÔÿàRock Shooter. While the thing that spawned the verse is a VOCALOID song that uses Miku's voice, it's still not part of the VOCALOID verse and uses a completely different cast of characters. Hell the company behind VOCALOID doesn't even own the character and can't use her.

As another comparison, if someone ever made pages for the default characters in RPG Maker (If that's even possible), not every verse made with RPG Maker would become part of the RPG Maker verse.

As a side note, if a "verse" does actually use the VOCALOID characters (such as The Evillious Chronicles) it would be considered fanfiction and thus not be useable.

Ah, gotcha. Kagerou never used any VOCALOID chracters from what I recall so it should be in the clear. The only connection they had was that some of their original songs were sung by Miku, but she never appeared in any of them from what I'm aware of.

Thanks for the clarification. Mekakucity has its own plot and story outside of the songs, so that helps as well.

@Matt Even then, it still uses the characters of VOCALOID (Miku, Len & Rin, etc.) and gives them backstories and a setting. Unless the series as a whole was approved by the owners of VOCALOID that would still be considered fanfiction, just a really popular one.
