Gotta Revise 'Em All, Part 2: Getting to work

Not open for further replies.
Charmeleon:

Red/LeafGreen/Y: When it swings its burning tail, it elevates the temperature to unbearably high levels.

Again, unsure what this would exactly yield but it should be presumably comparable to Magneton who does the same thing, which yielded 8-A
I doubt it's relevant. IIRC, Magneton's entry mentions a whole city block or so.

To Charmeleon's credit, it's SLIGHTLY unclear what thing's temperature is being raised to unbearably high levels? For example, Charmeleon's own body temperature? The body temperature of the tail swing attack's victim? The temperature of the ambient air? In what range?

If it's for the air, we'd need to assume a minimum range since none is specified.

I highly encourage seeking out the Japanese version of this Pokedex entry (Ideally with scans.) in the hopes it may clarify, in case the ambiguity is problematic for some folks.

That said, it's unclear if it'll be worthwhile, depending on what minimum range we assume, but keep in mind if they say "unbearably high levels". If this is meant to be interpreted from a human perspective, then it means:

A. Heats the air to a temperature humans find uncomfortable.
B. Heats the human to a temperature humans find uncomfortable as a result of the temperature change; Heat transfers into things from the environment, including into humans.

Charmeleon is likely found outdoors [citation needed], although it may also be able to do that indoors, but even using average temperatures & assuming Japan (Or whichever IRL equivalent for the region that Pokedex entry is from.), we'd need to get an average that works regardless of season/time if we're assuming outdoors.

Room temperature is 20 Celsius or 68 Fahrenheit.

Alternatively, there's the average human body temperature:

The average body temperature is 98.6 F (37 C). But normal body temperature can range between 97 F (36.1 C) and 99 F (37.2 C) or more. Your body temperature can vary depending on how active you are or the time of day. Generally, older people have lower body temperatures than younger people have.

Doing some simple Googling about what temperatures human can handle:

In the range of 90˚ and 105˚F (32˚ and 40˚C), you can experience heat cramps and exhaustion. Between 105˚ and 130˚F (40˚ and 54˚C), heat exhaustion is more likely. You should limit your activities at this range. An environmental temperature over 130˚F (54˚C) often leads to heatstroke.

It is commonly held that the maximum temperature at which humans can survive is 108.14-degree Fahrenheit or 42.3-degree Celsius. A higher temperature may denature proteins and cause irreparable damage to brain.

So depending on if we assume it's increasing a human's body temperature or increasing a temperature from room temperature (Which humans find comfortable.), it could be an increase of as little as 6 degrees fahrenheit/2.8 degrees celsius (In a much smaller area than Magneton's city block area.), or as much as 62 degrees fahrenheit/34 degrees celsius.

....Fitting, that much like Charmeleon itself, the results of this seem like they could be rather volatile.

Charizard:

Red: Spits fire that is hot enough to melt boulders. Known to cause forest fires unintentionally.

Stadium: Its fiery breath reaches incredible temperatures. It can quickly melt glaciers weighing 10,000 tons.

LeafGreen: It spits fire that is hot enough to melt boulders. It may cause forest fires by blowing flames.

Alright now we're getting somewhere. I could've sworn there were calcs for both of these feats floating around on the wiki somewhere...
Your memory is mostly correct! This WAS calculated already, minus the "melting boulders" part. May be worthwhile to look into that.
Unfortunately, unlike the contentious mountain-melting feat, I'm not sure any of the comments indicated acceptance of the glacier-melting part. Could someone go check on that, in case we need a Calc Group Member to evaluate that, please?
Curious where reshiram's atmosphere stuff and kyurem freezing unova come from.
Weekly clarified that Reshiram's stuff is from the Pokedex, but for context, these may be useful:
WhiteWhen Reshiram’s tail flares, the heat energy moves the atmosphere and changes the world’s weather.
Black 2
White 2
This legendary Pokémon can scorch the world with fire. It helps those who want to build a world of truth.
SwordFlames spew from its tail as it flies through the sky like a jet airplane. It’s said that this Pokémon will scorch the world.
ShieldAccording to myth, if people ignore truth and let themselves become consumed by greed, Reshiram will arrive to burn their kingdoms down.
Is it possible to calc ampharos' "visible from space" light?
Thankfully, Weekly's intuition/memory was correct once again:
From Ampharos's Attack Potency section:
SOMEONE PLEASE KEEP THAT LINK HANDY IN CASE REVISIONS OMIT THAT FROM JUSTIFICATION.
May also be good to import that feat's calc to a blog on our own site, if that's a valid thing to do.

In searching for the Calc (I didn't find it when searching for Ampharos in blogs on VSBW initially so I Googled for calculations of the feat.), I also found this:
It may be worth considering. It appears to be a separate backup of the archived calc used in Ampharos's profile's current justification.
Butterfree:

Ultra Moon: Nectar from pretty flowers is its favorite food. In fields of flowers, it has heated battles with Cutiefly for territory.

Gigantamax Butterfree:

Shield: Once it has opponents trapped in a tornado that could blow away a 10-ton truck, it finishes them off with its poisonous scales.
Unsure where our other documentation on the topic is, if any, but this may be useful:

There’s also Cleffa’s 8-C feat that may or may not be useable.
Why would it not be useable? A lot of the Pokedex entries make it plausible that Cleffa arrived on a meteor, Minior specifically.

SilverWhen numerous meteors illuminate the night sky, sightings of CLEFFA strangely increase.
LeafGreenBecause of its unusual, starlike silhouette, people believe that it came here on a meteor.
Ultra MoonSaid to have ridden here on a shooting star, Cleffa seem to appear in places where meteorites have struck in the past.
MoonBecause of its silhouette, it’s believed to be a star reborn. For some reason, it loves Minior.

So even if it's not Minior specifically, it's still some kind of meteor very likely. & at 30 cm in size, roughly a sphere & 40 kg, Minior is a somewhat light meteor.

30 cm diameter sphere has a volume of about 0.0141371669 m3.

Using the 3,000-3,700 kg/m3 density of meteors from our own Calculations page: 0.0141371669 m3 * 3,000 kg/m3 = 42.4115007 kg. (Minimum meteor density per our own Calculations page, as a low end.)
47.3595091 kilograms with 3,350 kg/m3 density (Average end.)
52.3075175 kilograms with 3,700 kg/m3 density (High end.)

Also, the ONLY location where Minior is found in the games, to this date is Mount Hokulani, is also where Cleffa is found & several in-game locations with meteor landings have Cleffa or members of its line.
Nidoking:

Emerald: A Nidoking's thick tail packs enormously destructive power capable of toppling a metal transmission tower. Once it goes on a rampage, there is no stopping it.
Toppling as in knocking over, or smashing to bits? Original Japanese version of this entry may be helpful.

Tentacool?

SapphireTentacool absorbs sunlight and refracts it using water inside its body to convert it into beam energy. This Pokémon shoots beams from its crystal-like eyes.
FireRedIts eyes are as transparent as crystals. From them, it shoots mysterious beams of light.
Alpha SapphireTentacool absorbs sunlight and refracts it using water inside its body to convert it into beam energy. This Pokémon shoots beams from the small round organ above its eyes.

Could justify some good speed feats if anything has reacted to this
Unfortunately, I doubt there are much in the way of reacting to this in the games, due to the nature of their medium. (In a cruel twist of irony, Tentacool appeared to do something like this in the anime, in a rather infamous episode, long before these entries debuted in the anime. I wonder if this was mentioned in the official, Japan-only Pokedex book? IIRC, some initially seemingly odd things in the anime ended up being referenced to info often not found outside of that book.)

For what its worth, Tentacool does seem to have a move analogous to the feats in these Pokedex entries in Aurora Beam:

lack/White
Black 2/White 2
The target is hit with a rainbow-colored beam. This may also lower the target’s Attack stat.
It's not 100% on if it's Light Manipulation or not, IIRC. Unsure if the anime portrays it as such, & despite the games not contradicting such a notion, I think it's been established we're disallowing such being used as supporting evidence.

Golem:

RedIts boulder-like body is extremely hard. It can easily withstand dynamite blasts without damage.
SilverIt is capable of blowing itself up. It uses this explosive force to jump from mountain to mountain.
CrystalIts rock-like body is so durable, even high-powered dynamite blasts fail to scratch its rugged hide.
To get more than Wall Level for moving 300 kg, it'd need to be huge distances, IIRC.
Tragically disappointing.

Unsure if calculating how strong the explosion itself would need to be to launch Golem would yield results any different.

Hopefully this helps.

It does! ^-^
Okay, so with what ive got so far, we've got:
Gigantamax Venusaur's Volcanic Eruption: 7-B
Charizard Melting Glaciers: 8-A+
Ampharos existing: 7-C
Metapod being as hard as iron and steel: 9-B
Cleffa falling from space: 8-C
Machamp moving mountains: 7-C/High 7-C

What might need calcs:
Charizard melting boulders
Gigantamax Blastoise blasting holes in mountains
Gigantamax Butterfree making tornados that can blow away 10 ton trucks
Pidgeot creating powerful wind storms
Pikachu creating lightning storms
Dugtrio causing earthquakes by digging
Poliwrath pulverizing large boulders

Gigantamax Butterfree making tornados that can blow away 10 ton trucks
If we can't use non-game media for this, we'd need to assume a distance; A similar feat MIGHT have appeared in the anime. (I recall the anime sometimes visualizes or demonstrates Pokedex entries, like a Hariyama's truck launching feat being visualized in the Sun/Moon anime when its Pokedex entry was being read off. But I'm unsure if their events have been shown happening.)

In any case, wind speed? Size of tornado? Distance launched?

It likely won't have all the answers, but I liked References for Common Feats#Weather Feats for a reason; Are the premade calculations for tornados & such found on that page not helpful here?
Pidgeot creating powerful wind storms
Similar concerns as above.
Dugtrio causing earthquakes by digging
Magnitude move?
Also, we have a page about Earthquake AP by Richter Scale, which involves magnitude (The measure of an earthquake's intensity, not the Pokemon move.).
Poliwrath pulverizing large boulders
Funnily enough, this is a feat many Pokemon can do, & with the size & material of the boulders being unclear, in this aspect, Poliwrath (Among others.) may be rivaled by BUNEARY, of all things:

Poliwrath:
Ultra MoonThe muscles it has developed through swimming are thick and powerful. When it lands a square punch, it can turn huge boulders to dust.
Buneary:
PlatinumIts ears are always rolled up. They can be forcefully extended to shatter even a large boulder.
Ultra SunIts arms and legs are weak, but when it rolls its ears up tight and then unleashes them with its full force, it can smash boulders to dust.
ShieldBuneary can attack by rolling up their ears and then striking with the force created by unrolling them. This attack becomes stronger with training.
Brilliant DiamondIt slams foes by sharply uncoiling its rolled ears. It stings enough to make a grown-up cry in pain.

To Poliwrath's credit/Buneary's discredit, Poliwrath turns "huge boulders" to "dust", whereas Buneary only "smashes" boulders to "dust", with those boulders not being noted as huge except when Buneary is said to shatter; Meaning Buneary might only pulverize small boulders & fragment/violent fragment large boulders, whereas Poliwrath could pulverize the larger ones.
The facts that Buneary's ear unrolling thing can explicitly be made stronger with training, & that Buneary's arms & legs are appearently weak, may also be worth considering.

Why would it not be useable? A lot of the Pokedex entries make it plausible that Cleffa arrived on a meteor, Minior specifically.
I only said that because people in the comments of the calc seemed to be contesting it.

Before i continue on this list, readig through all the variant forms im wondering if Pokemon should have some form of Adaptation, its stated numerous times for the variant forms that almost all of them are literally just the result of pokemon rapidly adapting to live in new locations

Cubones evolved into Alolan Marowak because the grasses of Alola were so intense, it literally hurt them eating it, so they evolved to be able to use fire to burn it before eating it. That had to happen pretty fast or the entire species of Cubone would've just... Died, on Alola.

Edit:

i mean depending on how fast they adapt it could just be the pokemon worlds equivalent to real world evolution

Alolan Sandshrew
Ultra Sun After fleeing a volcanic eruption, it ended up moving to an area of snowy mountains. Its ice shell is as hard as steel.
Sword Life on mountains covered with deep snow has granted this Pokémon a body of ice that's as hard as steel.

Alolan Sandslash

Let's Go PikachuThis is Sandslash's form after adaptation to a frigid environment. The cold air emitted by its body sharpens its icy spikes.
Sun Fleeing a volcanic eruption, it settled on a snowy mountain. As it races through the snowfields, it sends up a spray of snow.

Alolan Diglett

Let's Go PikachuAfter living in soil with high iron content for some time, three steel whiskers sprouted from the top of its head.

Alolan Meowth

Sun This Pokémon was not originally found in Alola. Human actions caused a surge in their numbers, and they went feral. They're prideful and crafty.

Galarian Meowth

Sword Living with a savage, seafaring people has toughened this Pokémon's body so much that parts of it have turned to iron.

Alolan Grimer

Sun A Grimer, which had been brought in to solve a problem with garbage, developed over time into this form.
Ultra Moon Brought to Alola to solve the garbage problem, Grimer seems to relish any and all kinds of trash.

Alolan Exeggutor

Sun Alola is the best environment for this Pokémon. Local people take pride in its appearance, saying this is how Exeggutor ought to look.
Moon As it grew taller and taller, it outgrew its reliance on psychic powers, while within it awakened the power of the sleeping dragon.
Let's Go PikachuThe strong sunlight of the Alola region has awakened the power hidden within Exeggcute. This is the result

Alolan Marowak
Ultra Sun The rich greenery of the Alola region is hard on Marowak. It controls fire to stay alive.

Galarian Farfetch'd

Shield The stalks of leeks are thicker and longer in the Galar region. Farfetch'd that adapted to these stalks took on a unique form.

Galarian Weezing

Shield Long ago, during a time when droves of factories fouled the air with pollution, Weezing changed into this form for some reason.

Galarian Corsola
Shield Sudden climate change wiped out this ancient kind of Corsola. This Pokémon absorbs others' life-force through its branches.

Galarian Darumaka

Sword It lived in snowy areas for so long that its fire sac cooled off and atrophied. It now has an organ that generates cold instead.

Galarian Stunfisk

Sword Living in mud with a high iron content has given it a strong steel body.

Galarian Slowpoke

Sword Although this Pokémon is normally zoned out, its expression abruptly sharpens on occasion. The cause for this seems to lie in Slowpoke's diet.
Shield Because Galarian Slowpoke eat the seeds of a plant that grows only in Galar, their tails have developed a spicy flavor.

Cubones evolved into Alolan Marowak because the grasses of Alola were so intense, it literally hurt them eating it, so they evolved to be able to use fire to burn it before eating it. That had to happen pretty fast or the entire species of Cubone would've just... Died, on Alola.

Edit:
“The rich greenery of the Alola region is hard on Marowak. It controls fire to stay alive.“ – Pokémon Ultra Sun
Sandshrew and Sandslash had to adapt from living in the desert and volcanic areas to living in snow-covered mountains otherwise they would have died

Diglett, Dugtrio, and Stunfisk just lived in different soil and became steel-type

Alolan and Galarian Meowth are just meowths with different living conditions

Alolan Grimer and Muk, Galarian Weezing, and Galarian Slowpoke and Slowbro just had different diets

Alolan Exeggutor exists because the sunlight in Alola is stronger

Galarian Farfetch'd and Sirfetch'd exist because the plants in Galar are different

Darumaka literally adapted to have an entirely new organ because it lived in a snowy environment for a while

Alright, continuing on the list:

Magneton:

Yellow Generates strange radio signals. It raises the temperature by 3.6F degrees within 3,300 feet.
Emerald It is actually three Magnemite linked by magnetism. It generates powerful radio waves that raise temperatures by 3.6 degrees F within a 3,300-foot radius.

Calced at 8-A+ https://vsbattles.fandom.com/wiki/User_blog:The_Living_Tribunal1/Magneton_heats_up_the_place

Cloyster:

Stadium Its shell is so hard, it can even withstand a bomb. No one has ever seen what is inside its shell.
FireRed Its shell is extremely hard. It cannot be shattered, even with a bomb. The shell opens only when it is attacking.

Gengar:

Brilliant Diamond It hides in shadows. It is said that in rooms where Gengar is hiding, the temperature drops by nearly 10 degrees Fahrenheit.

Hisuian Electrode:

Legends: Arceus The tissue on the surface of its body is curiously similar in composition to an Apricorn. When irritated, this Pokémon lets loose an electric current equal to 20 lightning bolts.

Rhyhorn:

FireRedStrong, but not too bright, this Pokémon can shatter even a skyscraper with its charging tackles.

8-A/Low 7-C https://vsbattles.fandom.com/wiki/References_for_Common_Feats#Destroying_a_Skyscraper

Legends: ArceusLudicrously strong—when it butts heads with a mountain, it is the mountain that shatters. But its short legs struggle with turns, and it is incapable of stopping unless it collides with something.

...

So uh...

A Basic pokemon shattering a mountain, thats something...i think that beats Pupitar's feat

Seadra:

Sapphire Seadra generates whirlpools by spinning its body. The whirlpools are strong enough to swallow even fishing boats. This Pokémon weakens prey with these currents, then swallows it whole.

Gyarados:

RedRarely seen in the wild. Huge and vicious, it is capable of destroying entire cities in a rage.
Yellow Brutally vicious and enormously destructive. Known for totally destroying cities in ancient times.
Stadium Extremely vicious and horribly brutal. Has enough destructive power to totally annihilate even a major city.
Diamond Once it appears, its rage never settles until it has razed the fields and mountains around it.

Articuno:

Yellow A legendary bird Pokémon. It freezes water that is contained in winter air and makes it snow.
Silver One of the legendary bird Pokémon, it chills moisture in the atmosphere to create snow while flying.
Crystal Legendary bird Pokémon. As it flies through the sky, it cools the air, causing snow to fall.
Emerald Articuno is a legendary bird Pokémon that can control ice. The flapping of its wings chills the air. As a result, it is said that when this Pokémon flies, snow will fall.
DiamondA legendary bird Pokémon. It can create blizzards by freezing moisture in the air.

Zapdos:
Crystal Legendary bird Pokémon. They say lightning caused by the flapping of its wings causes summer storms.
Stadium 2 This legendary bird Pokémon cause savage thunderstorms by flapping its glittering wings.

Dragonair:

RedA mystical Pokémon that exudes a gentle aura. Has the ability to change climate conditions.
Stadium Lives in large bodies of water like the sea and lakes. It is said to have the power to change the weather and fly.
Gold They say that if it emits an aura from its whole body, the weather will begin to change instantly.
Silver Its crystalline orbs appear to give this Pokémon the power to freely control the weather.
Crystal It is called the divine Pokémon. When its entire body brightens slightly, the weather changes.
Stadium 2 They say that if it emits an aura from its whole body, the weather will begin to change instantly.
Sapphire
RubyDragonair stores an enormous amount of energy inside its body. It is said to alter weather conditions in its vicinity by discharging energy from the crystals on its neck and tail.
Emerald A Dragonair stores an enormous amount of energy inside its body. It is said to alter the weather around it by loosing energy from the crystals on its neck and tail.
Sword This Pokémon lives in pristine oceans and lakes. It can control the weather, and it uses this power to fly into the sky, riding on the wind.
Shield This Pokémon gathers power in the orbs on its tail and controls the weather. When enshrouded by an aura, Dragonair has a mystical appearance.

Mega Mewtwo Y
Let's Go PikachuDespite its diminished size, its mental power has grown phenomenally. With a mere thought, it can smash a skyscraper to smithereens.

Alright thats Gen 1 done. Updating the game feats list:

Rapidash:

Legends: Arceus: Fiery mane aglow, Rapidash darts like an arrow across the land. This prodigiously swift creature can traverse the vast region of Hisui in a day and a half.

Okay

Brilliant Diamond: It gallops at nearly 150 mph. With its mane blazing ferociously, it races as if it were an arrow.

Omega Ruby: Rapidash usually can be seen casually cantering in the fields and plains. However, when this Pokémon turns serious, its fiery manes flare and blaze as it gallops its way up to 150 mph.

Sword: This Pokémon can be seen galloping through fields at speeds of up to 150 mph, its fiery mane fluttering in the wind.

So going at 150 mph, or 67.056 m/s, it takes ~18 hours for Rapidash to cross Hisui. There are 64800 seconds in 18 hours.

64800 x 67.056 = 4345228.8 m

4345228.8 / 1135 = 3828.3954185 m/px

3828.3954185 x 576 = 2205155.76106 m

2205155.76106 / 638 = 3456.35699225 m/px

3456.35699225 x 1066 = 3684476.55374 m

Fly makes it so any pokemon that knows the move can take you anywhere in Sinnoh in ~5 seconds, which is in real time due to the existence of the in-game clock and 24 hour day-night cycles of the game.

3684476.55374 / 5 = 736895.310748 m/s, Mach 2164

Using this as the general flight speed for the move Fly, we can get a KE calc out of this. The heaviest non-legendary pokemon that can learn Fly is Golurk at 330.0 kg.

KE = 1/2m*v^2 = 1/2(330.0)*736895.310748^2 = 8.9597425e+13 Joules, 21.414 Kilotons of TNT, '''Town level'''

  • Magikarp wrecks a rock (9-B to 9-A) and Magikarp jump (9-A)
  • Magikarp survive the explosion that vaporized the lake. using the sizes from PLA you could get high 8-C to 8-B results
Here’s the Magikarp Jump calc. Not sure if this would be counted as main game canon. And here’s a 9-B calc for elder Magikarp using Splash, which comes from its Platinum and BW/B2W2 dex extries.

These should be supporting feats for baby Pokemon, as Magikarp is stated to be the weakest Pokémon in the world in its FireRed, Diamond, X, Sword and Brilliant Diamond dex entries.
High 7-A feat by Tyranitar
Here’s that calc, and the source is its B2W2 and Shield dex entries.

Personally, I don’t think this should scale to anything but other pseudo-legendaries.

Huh. Never mind then, I guess Ttar’s feat can scale to the other second stages.

Mm maybe? Link for the localized thingamajig?

Nothing here talks about localized earthquakes. Afaik there's a certain distance at which we can make an earthquake calc and it's like 100 meters or sth.

If you have a radius of the room you were talking about i can calc it right now

Feels weird that it ignores the Magnitude move having Magnitudes above 8, but okay. That's in the game, too, even if it's not mentioned by the Pokedex entries.
