i don’t think he meant literal purgatory, he just meant afton is being held in limbo without being allowed to truly pass on

I am talking about how Crying Childrens looks are directly how corpses that wither look like, which imply Agony/Remnant of the kids caused their "body" to wither away and get those weird ass tears

You mean the counciousness pain stuff? We dont know that but it is possible it happened to them when they were fused with Remnant since the other affects happened

He is a weird case since unlike literally everyone else he doesnt really "possess" any objects

Remember these books are trying to explain the games.
