I guess because in the new game they didn't bring the orbs's mechanic from in the previous games.
But as the novels show, Kratos's Absorption (life, power and magic) isn't just a game mechanic.
Meaning there is no reason of Norse Kratos to not have such ability (at least he should have when using the Blades of Chaos).
