I break the ground a little and grab debris with my tentacles before making the tentacles pick up the fruit but using the debris inbetwen so that the fruit doesn't touch the tentacles.

@Dragon There are people hanging on to the fruit still, they won't let go even as they get dragged along.

I put down the fruit and use my tentacles to move the humans a large distance away from the tree since it's about to get bombed.
