Death Battle Season Ten Discussion Thread (1) (All-time Death Battle Spoilers Alert)

An event from the DB discord server
KirbyKid (researcher) = Hellboy vs Nero, think Hellboy wins.
Jess (RT Producer) = Azula vs Edelgard, think Edelgard wins.
Twice (researcher) = Kurapika vs Scar, think Kurapika wins.
Akuma (Researcher) = Mojo JoJo vs Gorilla Grodd, everyone but Akuma think Grodd wins.
Josh = Inspector Gadget vs Darkwing Duck, think Darkwing Duck win.
Ness vs Frisk, think Frisk wins.
Jukem = Chrono vs Isaac, think Isaac wins.
Rina = Magneto vs Accelerator, think its REALLY close but leaning Accelerator.
Billy (Ringmasters VA) = Kazuma vs Subaru, think Kazuma wins.
Luis (Animator) = Micheal Jackson vs Hatsune Miku, think MJ wins.KirbyKid (researcher) = Hellboy vs Nero, think Hellboy wins.
Josh = Inspector Gadget vs Darkwing Duck, think Darkwing Duck win.
Splinter vs Shifu, leaning Shifu wins when excluding Rise, which they would most likely do.

For more in depth shit
In the researcher community clash of the ODBD, the researchers debated hypothetical matchups to see who would win
(Don’t take this as absolute certainty lol)

Hellboy VS Nero
  • Hellboy is fairly underresearched
  • Referenced the Malaysia feat
  • Referenced the completely made up DMC scans
  • Wasn’t much of a debate but they went with Nero lol, mainly speed

Azula VS Edelgard
  • Were very direct in Edelgard beating Azula
  • Javelins of Light are > any Avatar feats that aren’t the Avatar
  • Azula would be faster, didn’t buy FTL FE
  • There’s an Azula comic coming out in a few days
  • Despite Heroes or Engage being possibly canon, chose not to use it for Guts Dimitri because it’s supplementary media
  • DJ noted they would use Engage for Kylo Edel
  • Think they’ve done about all is needed for Avatar in Death Battle

Kurapika VS Scar
  • FMA stats are all over the place, go with Kurapika atm
  • AP and Speed are relative but Scar’s alchemy wouldn’t do anything against Nen and Scar has no defenses against it
  • They wouldn’t equate Nen and Alchemy

Mojo Jojo VS Gorilla Grodd
  • Very fun
  • Akuma argued for a Mojo win
  • Mojo has a pen that can tear apart reality
  • Got quickly shut down when faced with Grodd scaling to Flash and Grodd being one of the strongest telepaths in the verse
  • Don’t think Grodd is very explored versus wise or super interesting
  • Grodd tagged Flash at specifically full speed
  • Grodd should just win
Darkwing Duck VS Inspector Gadget
  • Scaled Darkwing to Donald
  • Inspector Gadget dies
  • Referenced “Go Go Gadget Murder Goku”

Ness VS Frisk
  • Had a big reaction over how complicated it would be
  • Put Frisk at Uni, don’t think Ness can match that.
  • Questioned giving Chara to Frisk.
  • Decided to move on

Chrono VS Issac
  • Went with Issac, was a lot of random jumbles of stats and I didn’t really get anything out of it
  • Like the MU

Magneto VS Accelerator
  • Sounds close, lean Accelerator?
  • Accelerator has greater abilities and counters
  • Mainly his vectors would be a great help to win
  • Magneto would likely have better stats but it wouldn’t end up mattering

KAZUMA VS SUBARU
- I genuinely gained nothing from this other than asking if the Mario movie was an isekai
 
Scar's deconstruction is pretty broken ngl. If it hits Kura directly then he's getting the Bradley treatment.


Guys skill is also off the chain given that he can keep up with dudes like King Bradley.

Like I said, Aaron does not disappoint when it comes to making music of Shin Megami Tensei and Persona.
I would actually see Therewolf Media better than Brandon Yates specifically when it comes to making battle tracks for Shin Megami Tensei and Persona and Touhou Project - I cannot wait to see what Cirno vs Jack Frost sounds like (and looks like too - Cirno vs Jack Frost is one battle overdue - again).

Think Naruto Chakra types but instead of elements it has to do with what you can do with your specific type of Nen

There are 6 types

Enhancement = Making Punch Strong

Emission = Shooting lasers

Transmutation = Turning your nen into something else

Conjuration = Making stuff (Also STANDO POWER)

Manipulation = Controlling objects and people

Specialist = Whatever else togashi wants to make his character do

This is very barebones explanation of what it is and it gets way more in depth with the specifics of how you can use and apply each type but this is the basis of Nen

The other stuff like ten and ren is just how you control your Nen

Sad many verses try to mimic the system in Hunter X Hunter yet few can be successful in setting a real distinct system - and the HXH verse gets dragged for too long so its influence gets shadowed - Yoshihiro Togashi himself is to be blamed.



Is it just me: I am no sexist, but comparing Shadow vs Ryuko and Steven Universe vs Star Butterfly, and comparing Killua Zoldyck vs Mikoto Misaka and Satoru Gojo vs Makima, some coincidental trends seem to emerge.

Really sucks since the power system is so great and it still feels like he's only scratched the surface of what you can do with it

Doubly so since Togashi kinda doesn't care about normal fights anymore only text walls and analytical "I saw through your plan with mine!" fights instead of good old fashioned hand to hand with abilities thrown in

This is where I feel Jujutsu Kaisen's system excels since the basics are simple and we actually get to see stuff used and expanded upon in fights

I do hope he gets better but it sucks to see such potential be squandered (Due in part to laziness)

Who!? Who is the guy that is in charge of these awful, out of touch, shorts at Death Battle and why hasn't he been fired? Like seriously they can do ANYTHING else other then clips from old fights like promote their memberships or upcoming DBs or hell, share some out of context clips from the DBC, but instead they make shorts like this as a way of appealing to the "cool" kids or whatever these are meant to do

Like I said they should use it to hype up some of the TOC MU to get folks more entice to vote for there favorite MU
Hell even next season should use to hype up s11 to keep the hype going
