Assassin's Creed: Isn't Leonardo an extraordinary genius?

Even in real life his ideas and inventions were centuries ahead of their time. It was written it's enough.

Any real life humans and fictional characters of comparable intelligence can only achieve the genius rating.

If the AC version of Leonardo was far more intelligent than what is humanly possible in real life, he can probably be upgraded.

Regardless, his in-game version actually managed to work with the Apple of Ede's knowledge, which is far beyond normal human norms, and could easily decode Altaïr's Codex within a few minutes all by himself, and should at the very least be on par with Altaïr himself in terms of scientific knowledge.

If that's not enough, an At least Genius rating should suffice.

Well, that seems to probably be an Extraordinary Genius rating then.

Another thing: Leonardo was also able to decode the projections of the Apple as being related to cosmology stuff and devoted himself to it by the time AC Brotherhood happened, and thanks to Cesare had to work day and night with it.
