I am far too tired and busy to properly handle this, but during the original Crisis the Anti-Monitor was strictly stated to threaten an infinite number of universes as far as I am aware, which would severely contradict more exaggerated interpretations.

Heck, even the Wally West Flash and Superboy Prime were later respectively portrayed as capable of defeating him, even if these were outliers.

Regardless, I think that this is a case of severely inconsistent continuity from writer to writer, and have a hard time making sense of it, especially as I am feeling very dizzy at the moment due to stress, lack of sleep, and overwork, so it is probably best if you ask Matthew Schroeder and Sandman31 to comment here.

Yes it is. We cannot assume that a writer used an infinite degree of power for Thunderbolt 13 years or so before it was ever established by another writer.

The Thunderbolt was also locked in combat with a weak facsimile of Surtur for a long time without being able to prevail. This does not mean that Surtur was High 2-A, nor that any of the other characters that challenged the Thunderbolt Pre-Crisis would automatically scale to what Grant Morrison established long afterwards.

Also, I remember reading a Grant Morrison interview a long time ago in which he stated that Hypertime is just planar time that lets different timelines interact or merge with, split off from, etcetera each other, and during "Crisis Times Five" it was stated that the 5D imps encompassed time and hypertime, if I remember correctly.

Superhero comicbooks usually inaccurately use the word "dimension" to refer to alternate universes with different laws of physics..
