I honestly feel like you're blowing this massively out of proportion.

In all likelyhood, this is a knee-jerk reaction that will last for a relatively short time, in order to let FANDOM get a hold on the situation.
Dargoo is correct, and there is also a frigging FBI investigation of severe criminal harrassment underway. This matter has gone way outside of our personal control at this point.

Wasn't accusing anyone of cussing, but some people could have taken the wording of it as "Yelling." Not accusing anyone of that either, was just giving a clarification.

I can see where both sides are coming from. I get the logic behind their views. But I'm just gonna say that a "protection for a few days" isn't gonna do anything to trolls with such level of dedication who have been doing this for months, until some direct action is taken on them, which can also be done without enforcing this rule, I think.

For the record, I am not sure when this restriction will be lifted. It could be here for a month, or until Fandom is contacted by the FBI, for all that I know.

However, I reiterate, we already have one of the absolutely largest Fandom communities in terms of active members. We will not suddenly stagnate and die because of this. That is an overreaction.

Yes, they are trying to help

But you know? Sometimes, their decision isn't the brightest. And we certainly are not forced to follow them. Temporary or permanent

As much as i can see the reason behind this rule. I don't see how it helps. Apart from the fact we're making this hard for new users who sometimes prefers chat as an option to understand the wiki better. Some just come here to chat...and that's it. They don't care about editing, they want to talk to people in chat for various reasons. Plus, this rule won't do any great for us in the long run. New users will be a bit miffed at this. The fact that now, one can't edit for 4 days and NOW has to make 10 edits to enter chat, makes this bothersome. When usually, he could pass time in chat and wait for the 4 days by talking with others in chat. Besides, this is just delaying the inevitable. This wiki will still flock all kinds of trolls. Also, this is literally the wiki saying "HEY TROLLS! WE'RE GIVING YOU THE ATTENTION YOU LIKE! COME HERE FOR MORE!"

Temporary or not, this rule isn't gonna do the wiki any good in the long run. Trolls will still come, add in the fact that new users will be uncomfortable with this. I certainly don't see how it will help

Tis but my opinion. Agree to disagree

I don't feel like this conversation is really going anywhere at this point, and I think both the support and opposition have said what needed to be said. I don't see the need to keep this open anymore, iirc.

This is just closing the discussion for no reason. ALRF is 100% correct.

We've continuously "temporary" (tm) measures to help defend from trolls for over a year now.

None of them made any difference, each one is more extreme than the last, and none of them are ever revoked, and the only effect on the long-run is turning the wiki more and more inaccesible to newcomers.

At one point we need to get our heads off the grounds, leave our little echochamber, and look at what's actually happening. All of these decisions are primarily driven through knee-jerk fear and paranoia, and do no good either short-term or long-term for anyone.

And ultimately it's just giving Trolls / Whatever a victory.

So yes, I think that these last two restrictions should absolutely be removed. They are objectively, unarguably, unilaterally terrible for all parties involved and nothing positive will come out of them.

Your conjecture about the effect of the recent rules is disproved in regards to its actual effects.

The number of trolls messing around in chat, vandalizing pages, etc. has drastically decreased, and that's undeniable. You can just compare the rate of comments on the violations thread, no longer are we getting the massive influx of reports on the terrible links, or threats, even through other sites honestly. I also feel like you're in a poor position to argue the effect of these implementations, considering I've been helping deal with it on chat for the past several weeks, and have noticed a drastic decrease in spammers and vandals.

It's an effective short-term solution. And considering the implication of some of the actions taken here by the trolls/whatever, yes, putting a hold like this really helps FANDOM and associated parties in getting their shit together and actually dealing with the mess, instead of just getting report on report on report.

Am I saying this is the perfect solution? No.

Is the wiki going to collapse as hell freezes over, and fire rains from the heavens? No.

Give FANDOM some time to collect themselves and work on the issue, then we can work about removing the new implementations.

Knee-jerking back against rules you claim are done in a knee-jerk reaction just makes people more up and antsy than it's worth, and is just feeding fuel to the flame.

I find it odd you speak for all parties involved, as if you suddenly have an universal perspective on the issue. You're just making a bunch of unsubstantiated claims based on what you might think happen off of this.

As Dargoo says. The effects are obvious even if we don't like the means used to achieve these effects- chat is the most obviously fixed issue, should any of you regular there. There have been no trolls that I've seen nor the people I ask to keep track. Literally zero.

This is good for now. Making drama over it is pointless.

Dargoo and Mr. Bambu are correct in that Fandom have told me that they are currently trying to figure out how to better protect communities like our own. They are very concerned about that underage members cannot enter the chat without risking to be subjected to child pornography, for example.

It is probably best to give Fandom some time to do so.

Anyway, I will talk with Bert Hall about your concerns.

Okay, I understand now. This is a really efficient way of killing all traffic and growth the wiki had.

Incredibly lame. Get them to open it and if they needed find ANY sort of better idea than quarantining this wiki from everyone that hasn't edited over 10 times. Probably one of the most stupid solutions

I say again, they are not perfect, they can do wrong, but they do what they have.

Now if you still bashing them,go to the FANDOM staff office and bash them to their face, otherwise just stop,it's pointless and wasting your time.

Brah,FANDOM is really, really try to prevent any harashment towards the wiki, yeah they choice is not best they already try.

JUST STOP IS STOP!!!

No man. Keeping it quiet lets them think this is actually a positive thing to do. I don't care if this is the best they've got, if anything that's incredibly disappointing. Pretty much a failure of a website service.

I think most people here could come up with better solutions than closing off the entirety of this wiki haha.

Now that you call the fandom fail their website service, what the heck man? You're pretty much ignoring everything what the other and me said above.

Yeah, closing off this wiki because that's you think in your moronic head, which is not.

It's only a shortterm solution, it prevents socks and it won't be for long, we've tried many things and don't have any options left. The people who have been raiding us have been posting some disgusting things and blocking off new users is our only option. Don't be angry. The people at FANDOM are trying their hardest.

For one we could get moderators from most of the timezones around the world so there will always be people blocking these kids. Or putting that 10 edit limit on chat only, instantly telling us whether they're legit or not. It isn't hard to find a better solution.
