Be My Rimworld Pawns (Again): Season 4.5

  • @Armorchompy (the Ugly) quelled a prison break by unfortunately smashing the skull of an escapee into bits. He was using his bare hands, she was using one of our FN FALs she managed to get ahold of.
  • Our science division is nearly back up and running thanks to a lucky find of a handful of gold. @PsychoWarper is in the process of rebuilding our Multi-Analyzer as we speak, which was the biggest loss of the destroyed lab.
  • Moments after @Arceus0x snapped @Shadowslash125 out of a food binge, @FinePoint entered a food binge because the barracks is only "decent". Arceus failed to snap him out of it, so we had to arrest him instead, because we're running out of ******* cooked meals. Cheevler was our backup cook who worked while Titter was doing other stuff. Titter has gone on two food binges in four days. We're running out. STOP EATING ALL THE FOOD. We have so much raw food. So so much. But the cook keeps ******* off to eat everything.
  • We finally... finally, finally, finally were able to make a decent trade (or, in context/lore, get a resupply ship). @Armorchompy is receiving a new helmet that will cover his ******* ugly face, as well as a persona plasmasword because it will make him more psychically sensitive (I have yet to build him a throne so the Star-People will come down and give him the start of his psychic powers). Also bought another monosword for @Rakih_Elyan. Other than this, not much special was bought; a couple books, some components, etc. In return we gave them a shitload of drugs we've been looting off the Deserters (luciferum, yayo, the usual stuff), and about 2500 units of wood.
  • @PsychoWarper has produced the first Masterwork of the colony... it's a post-modernist dining chair. Not so exciting, but hey! Masterwork! It's done in a cel-shaded style; given who made it, I choose to think of this as a nod to Borderlands. Why would Frogman make a Borderlands-themed chair in our rec room for a chess table? Who knows.
  • We have added gambling tables to the rec hall. @Topaz404 hung out at them basically the second they were done and was in there for a few hours so I assume it went poorly. None of you have a wage so who knows what is even being gambled. Perhaps ammunition.
  • @Andytrenom proposed marriage to @Arceus0x in the most romantic way available, for downtime in a warzone: while she was machining more explosive shells for our mortars. He said yes. It's gonna be super ****** up when a high-caliber round decimates one of their brains. These helmets won't protect them from everything, and machine gun fire cares little for the power of love. Courier immediately went to go tell his best friend about the news (his best friend is King Julian).
  • Before researching, @Crabwhale fixed up the lab a bit. There's still metal slag from Deserter drop pods everywhere, but the place is respectable again otherwise. We now have Fabrication, so our next step is working on Mass Drivers; once we have that technology, we can create what will be our standard firearm from here on out, the Gauss Rifle. Railguns work well enough against high armor enemies, and this is chiefly who we're fighting these days.
  • I don't think I've mentioned it but ever since we all got Deserter armor, heat strokes are essentially a thing of the past. It's awesome.
  • This menu stresses me out.
  • Since we have @Tllmbrg to regenerate bodies (most recently @Rakih_Elyan, who had suffered brain damage from a few headshots awhile back), bionics can be given out not as a replacement, but as an upgrade. Ergo, I will now dole out a bunch of bionics. @Armorchompy is getting a Psychic Attuner, Turks is getting an advanced bionic leg. Since our hospital is pretty tiny (for now, I intend to change this), and one bed is still taken up by Bea, Gnawer's off-world girlfriend whom the Empire shipped to the battlefield to be rid of her, we'll do the rest later. For now I'm thinking a bionic arm for @PsychoWarper, a Psychic Reader for @Arceus0x, a Psychic Harmonizer for our mindbroken Sanguophage, and a Circadian Assistant for @Topaz404. Subject to change (except that Sanguophage bit, that just seems so obscenely powerful).
  • The way is lit, the path is clear; we require only the strength to follow it: It is now officially one year past the start date of the colony. We have not successfully attacked an enemy base yet, though we have progressed to mortars and erected some that can land shots on the nearest Colonization base. We have improved our personal weapons and armor tremendously, and established a stable base. It is now time to receive Imperial Reinforcements-- permanent on-site soldiers to join Lord Comiphor's personal detachment. @Epiccheev @Lawiegg @Da3ggman (as well as three others) can now submit another character if they would like, to go beyond their prior selves, who were cut down before their time. The most tumultuous time of the save is over, I believe (though, there will still be plenty of time to die).
Can i still submit another character?

  • Two reinforcements so far, specifically @Epiccheev and Spearhead (Llamas) have resubmitted. Llamas character, a Bogleg war profiteer named Apollo, spawned in, instantly flirted with Demeter (Cheev's character), by comparing her to a dark star, which to the best of my knowledge is slang for an anus. She was not impressed.
  • @Crabwhale mentioned sterilization offhandedly to @Epiccheev, who instantly gained a level in medical as a result.
  • There's a huge outbreak of the plague on the base. Notably infected include @Crabwhale, @Comiphorous, @Arceus0x, @Tllmbrg, and @Rakih_Elyan. This kinda sucks because we're in a psychic suppression field that's ******* with all the men of the colony.
  • This, delightedly, also means that @Epiccheev's new pawn, Demeter, Baron of the Imperium, has the opportunity to lead a raid. We need to deal with the psychic suppression field, really badly. Demeter will go with a small contingent of Imperial Troopers, as well as @DaReaperMan and @Andytrenom (girl power!!!) to destroy this shit. Combat report: it went well. There were about a dozen lightly armed militants guarding the site, which I interpret as a rebel (not colonization forces) outpost attempting to disrupt Imperial psychics in the region (chief among them being our own). I had Lanzy and Demeter take up sniping positions, with Paige taking a forward position alongside a couple of the troopers. The enemy chiefly had low-end ballistic weapons (assault rifles and machine guns, none of them too exciting) with one flamethrower unit who did manage to torch an Imperial Trooper until his leg melted off. A good amount of the enemy survived (five), and three of them even look useful (the Uhlan is tempting, but he literally needs Luciferum to survive by default). We'll be taking a few home: Jake (8 shooting with a minor passion, small passion and skill in crafting; good enough), Galex (Keshig with 13 shooting and 15 melee, as well as a 6 in cooking), and Min (Venator with a 17 in shooting, 12 in mining, and 6 in crafting; also a free Detoxifier Lung). Their traits are broadly pretty bad but I'm more concerned with meat for the grinder than whether someone is a slow learner or nudist. While Lanzy and Demeter were tending their wounds (reading: shoving their organs back inside them, then stitching them up), Paige went and punched the psychic suppressor array with her bare hands. Unfortunately, we roughed up Galex too bad, and she passed away as Lanzy was attempting to fix them.
  • We have found ancient relics of untold power amongst the ruins of one of the raids against us.
  • @Arceus0x went to recruit a prisoner, who went berserk, so Courier punched him in the face, then began his recruitment pitch after they fell down.
  • @Crabwhale has gotten a high tolerance to alcohol via an alcohol binge. It is humorous that the tooltip for Catharsis is "It feels good to unbottle my feelings."
  • In a similar vein, while she was paralyzed in the hospital, @Tllmbrg brought his girlfriend a beer and helped her down that shit. Just because you can't even move is no reason to not be crunked.
  • I've only just noticed that @Epiccheev was deciding to sleep in the ruins of the old barracks for some reason, so she's had a mood debuff this whole time for being outside. It has been amended. I'm not sure why she did this: perhaps solidarity with Skalpbug, the Versus Mod, whom I have not yet assigned a bed indoors for.
  • By having @DaReaperMan install that psychic harmonizer into our mindbroken sanguophage, we now have a permanent 19 mood bonus when around him, because that dude is happy as hell. This is incredibly powerful. This is literally better than sex-- as in it gives a much higher mood bonus than sex. It gives almost double the highest possible mood bonus from having a spouse. It's like eating the best meals and doing the best drugs all the time, just for having the mental signal from this dumb, stupid, gormless bastard walking around.
  • We were raided by mechanoids, and for the first time I decided not to tap @Comiphorous, allowing him to have a little break. He was playing billiards. Instead, I deposited (most) of you into position and prepared for a real fight. @Arceus0x took a machine gun bunker, several of you (@DaReaperMan, @Epiccheev, a couple AI) took up sniping positions, and @Topaz404 and Skalpbug operated mortars (with our spotter being @Armorchompy, who retreated when the enemy got too close). I'm getting better with my use of mortars in this mod, and this one successfully neutered a lot of the enemy's firepower, as it wounded their heaviest hitting mechs enough to reduce their speed to, at the lowest, a mere 0.32 c/s (about 0.48 m/s), further slowed by the rough jungle terrain. The enemy's artillery, therefore, was desperately crawling, while their light units were fed into huge barrages of fire. After he retreated, I had Scutum pair up with @Rakih_Elyan, simply to wait for them to round the corner into the open space beyond our killbox in order to ambush them in melee. I ****** up slightly at this point by having them stand at an embrasure, allowing the enemy to get a couple cheeky hits in on them before I adjusted. This successfully dealt with the large wave of light enemy mechanoids (who still take a shitload more firepower to deal with than regular troops). The most important thing afterward was to try and use EMP fire to stagger the flow of heavy mechanoids, because we simply will not win a firefight with them. By allowing them in one at a time, we can engage in melee instead, and in melee, they are mostly hopeless. So in go Turks and Scutum, ready to smack people as they round corners-- my favorite. I went to relieve the ranged soldiers of their duties at this point-- I had this under control, and there wasn't much they could do anyways-- but I found that Warlock had simply... allowed himself, out of his position, already? I don't actually know how that happened. Perhaps his lunch break started. I got a little ballzy with the method used by the melee pawns by having them charge the slowest enemy artillery unit because he was just taking so long. It worked out-- he got a single shot off, and it missed anyways. I find it humorous that the whole time this fight is going on, @FinePoint keeps stopping the machine gun turret to reload it, mid-combat, because John VSBattles himself is not drafted (because he is incapable of violence).
  • It occurs to me that this sanguophage we captured can make you guys sanguophages as well. Any volunteers to be a vampire? It gives you a lot of decent powers, with the chief downside being that occasionally you need to deathrest (enter a death-like coma for an extended period of time), and of course need to drink blood.
  • What's really awesome about the mechanoids is that their heavy artillery units are using 81mm mortar shells-- the very same shells we're pelting them with. Thus, they are actually resupplying us when they die. @Andytrenom spent like a month just churning out mortar shells, and now we can use the shells to replace the shells, thus earning new shells. This raid, we used something like 20 shells, and got about 100 in return.

My pawn would 100% take that deal

This feels like a metaphor for something.

And as expected, 90% of what Lanzy is doing is sniping lmfao

Comiphor is very mentally stable. I’d argue the most mentally stable.

This is hilarious & basically the same joke I was trying to come up with by making a highly social and practical but hideous nudist character. I'll have to think of something else; any particular weaknesses or roles in this run to cover come to mind?

It was previously plants, but plants is something we can force people to do that we can force people to do, and they will get better at it. We have several pawns now with zero passion for it but nevertheless skill at 7-9.

What we're vulnerable to now is cooking. When Cheev's original pawn died, they took 50% of our cooking staff with them, leaving only Titter, who more or less cooks constantly to feed the platoon. I've started letting Gnawer back in the kitchen, but only to produce simple meals, as otherwise he gives everyone food poisoning. So while you are free to make whatever you like, we're truly deficit on decent cooks.

Here is a general template for the guy you will be trusting your sustenance & general health to: Tahkobel Nikomuk. I haven't played Rimworld myself, so there may be redundant or otherwise unnecessary traits. Feel free to change as needed for a better/interesting result.

Bio: Tahkobel Nikomuk is a culinary innovator who pioneered premium recipes such as Air Miso Soup & now-standard ingredients such as Red Dye #9825. Controversy over the industrial-recycling-friendly contents and challenging health effects of his masterpiece, the Soylent Sausage-Cicle, forced him to flee lynch mobs of oversensitive reactionaries & apply his skills to mercenary work. A tireless experimenter, even his common detractors consider him a scientific genius, at least in making the sort of chemical hazards banned by warcrime committees (but who cares about those). Can he rein in his artistic inclinations to make food even the lowest common denominator can digest?

Xenotype: Genie sounds most appropriate skill-wise and could be useful.

Skills: Cooking, Plants, Medical, Intellectual, Artistic and/or Crafting (all but Cooking is negotiable, with one needing to be dropped for the limit of five; use whatever is needed most)

Health conditions: Whatever is funni but won't kill him or everyone else via the food being TOO poisoned

Traits: Cannibal, Chemical Fascination, Fast Learner, Gourmand, Hard Worker/Industrious, Super Immune, Tortured Artist, whatever else fills the idea well

Recap: Despite the comedic backstory, I intend him to be a (mostly) good cook with the capacity for improvised recipes (with the capacity to comically backfire). Feel free to deviate from my suggestions as needed to make him useful with the capacity to help in other (probably non-combat) fields. I added some traits such as cannibal for funni & potential usefulness, but take care to not make someone who could end up poisoning everyone unless that's what you want for some reason.

The fat ***** finally got off his ass and stopped watching Naruto.

May he never 🙏
no he's still doing that. he's the Bogleg named Apollo. who is, genetically, a fat ****. the pawn named Jake, is not Jake's pawn. the pawn named Jake is just some schmuck.

Devastating that I can't give the Genie the fat body as they are genetically skinny (and bald).

I'm giving him the Baker's Child child backstory and Military Cook adult backstory (I had intended to make him a Space Station Cook to really capture the implied "I am an artisan of slop" angle you were going for, but that restricts him from medical work). I'm dropping Plants because Genies are genetically averse to plant work, and this is not an individual I imagine touching grass.

Your pawn spawned in with a gunshot scar and asthma, I figure I'll just leave them with this. I think it kinda fits (the former for running from a mob, the latter because he isn't really a combatant and thus sort of a nerd). It is interesting that he also spawned in Ugly and Reclusive; these will be removed but the game really wanted you to go a certain route, I feel. John VSBattles second coming.

Tahkobel is now an enlisted non-combatant (who nevertheless will carry, at least, an FN FAL; if he gets jumped, he should at least have a chance of defeating his enemy)

By the way, how bad is Teetolar anyways? Cause from what you've been saying it's been causing like half the problems I thought it would.

Teetotaler is actually totally fine. I'm not prone to enlisting the use of combat drugs normally anyways-- they're expensive and unreliable, and often dangerous. All the trait means is that if I ever did want to use them, Lanzy would not be the one getting them. It also means I can't just drug Lanzy to improve her mood, which is a more frequent strategy I use (so, for example, all that beer we have; if Lanzy is in a bad mood, she won't go drink it to improve her mood, which is what the other pawns do). But she's had a relatively stable emotional arc so far, so this isn't a huge issue. Teetotaler is a relatively low impact trait, imo, and one that I sometimes actually like. I don't have to worry about the teetotaler going on a mental break and then consuming enough cocaine to down an elephant, thus killing themselves via overdose.

Basically it's a neutral trait, and combined with Iron Willed it matters even less then.

I really just made a careful shooter who takes 15% more damage and just doesn't break, huh? I was trying to be more balanced than that lmfao

Excellent, sounds as if he'll be keeping the run going but potentially causing hijinks. I like that the game tried to further make him hideous, though appearances & sociality likely won't matter much for his role, anyway. Genies being thin is unfortunate but we can say he had a meth addiction or something. Perhaps liposuction treatments on the side to give credence to claims of his concoctions being "weight-loss health food."

  • We start anew with Priest, our mindbroken Sanguophage, implanting the vampire genes into @Epiccheev. In about an in-game year we'll be able to do this again, if we want, thus spreading the taint. Most of you are pretty happy not being vampires, so it might be that we give the fodder low ranking recruits sanguophage just to improve their survival rates. We can get a blood bank running from captured enemies that aren't worth recruiting. Just... saw off their limbs, tie them to a bed, and drink their blood. We can sustain them on nutrient paste. I'll work on it.
  • Our fields are expanding to deal with the increased burden of pawns. @FinePoint, in some sort of cruel twist of fate, is effectively the labor boss overseeing @Crabwhale and Skalpbug in planting this new field. This is a form of hell for Scooper, who must endure the presence of both VS Mods simultaneously. God forbid someone mentions the HST around either of them, otherwise Scooper may just off himself right there. We're adding tomatoes and eggplants to our diet because they seem like efficient crops for the blazing hellscape that is a Lemosian jungle.
  • Thanks to the hard work of Apollo and @Arceus0x, we have researched nuclear power. In theory, we can now get a nuclear reactor going and we've laid the groundwork for nuclear warheads but in practice, we are quite Uranium poor, having 613 units of the stuff. This isn't nothing, but it isn't enough to ensure overwhelming access to enriched uranium, either.
  • @Follow_Doctor_Freeman has to be put in jail or some shit. I hate gourmands. I hate you. I hate you. He also wants to binge on our limited food now. I hate you. I hate you. @Comiphorous sprinted after him to knock him out of it. I need to make a dedicated mess hall immediately. Work will begin on this pronto.
  • @Shadowslash125 lost his right middle finger in a fight with an elephant. I decided this could not possibly stand and so he will be regenerating. Dude needs the Bird.
  • Also for @Shadowslash125 (vaguely), we are building his Palace: a mess hall, south of our fields. We need to improve movement speed between our various buildings but this should help a lot with the food issue. Later I intend to append a hydroponics operation to the place,
  • As @Epiccheev's gene growth coma has ended (and thus made her a sanguophage), I reckon a good split of work would be @Comiphorous commanding the base whilst Demeter leads raids abroad as the other noble (still haven't made @Armorchompy a throne so he can start his psychic shit...).
  • But before we can go out and attack an enemy base... we're in trouble, y'all. This is a dire raid. I am hoping that simple EMP + HE mortars can do the trick. Update about seven real world minutes later: I ******* love mortars. I have @Crabwhale and @Tllmbrg manning two of them while @Comiphorous serves as the spotter. This was only four shells. The raid was still insanely intense, though our killbox proved fairly sufficient in handling it. This has skyrocketed @Topaz404 to having the most damage dealt, as I had him on the machine gun turret, and he was having a ball of a time just mowing down the enemy as they tried to get at @Crabwhale. @DaReaperMan employed the signature "sit in a distant spot and assassinate enemies", now joined by @Epiccheev since she is ambulatory and wielding a sniper. Because he can technically fight, I had @Follow_Doctor_Freeman in what I will generously refer to as the "rear guard position", which is to say, manning an underground turret bunker on the other side of the base on the off chance some ****** up pathing led them to go over there. I didn't want him pulling a John VSBattles and interrupting combat by trying to put out fires or reload in-use machine guns. For @FinePoint, the battle was spent staring at a concrete wall inside. He still managed to be shot because I didn't notice a mechanoid had flown over the battle, punched into the bunker, and started shooting him while he just took it. It was the world's tiniest mechanoid, though, so he's actually miraculously healthy for a guy that was hit like 40-50 times. Jake, John VSBattles, and @Skalpbug were badly injured, while I had to have Viin just retreat, as he was caught outside. Jake actually got pretty bad brain injuries, so he might be retired soon. Something something the brightest stars burn half as long or whatever.
  • A fault in our electrical wiring caused @Rakih_Elyan's bed to explode while he was in it. He was totally fine.
  • Shipping goals! This couple (@Arceus0x and @Andytrenom, whom I had near each other during combat only by coincidence) discusses the summer's hottest swimming trends while firing at hostile militants! #blessed
  • I had planned to send @Epiccheev out raiding nearby enemy posts, but with the recent raid against us, we're in a recovery phase. Still, the plan for next time is to send Demeter, @Tllmbrg, @Andytrenom, @Rakih_Elyan, and several less consequential pawns to besiege the nearest Colonization Front base, several tiles to the north. For now, the last raid stressed the **** out of me, and rebuilding from it has taken like an hour, so this is all for now.

Wait, so the gourmand trait doesn't simply equate to good cooking skill, it makes it so that Tahkobel just immediately eats what he cooks?

...pffft, hahaha, well, I guess no one has to worry about eating bad food! "I cooked it so I earned it, get your own! And I'll take the rest, too, since I appreciate it more." Darn. Well, feel free to kill him off or something if need be, whatever's most entertaining.

The effect of Gourmand is that it gives a huge buff to the cooking skill, but it also gives you occasional, unavoidable mental breaks where you just binge food (works similar to Pyromaniac's fire setting spree). I'm not going to kill you off because of it lmao, but it is a pain in the ass, for sure.
