God of War: Ragnarok Discussion Thread

Zeus is afraid of Nyx in the myth, he even stopped chasing one of her sons when he entered her cave out of fear of her.
Typhoon made Olympus tremble and defeated Zeus and multipe gods, Zeus only managed to defeat him a second time via threatening his wife as far as ik.
For the Typhoon thing, I'm not too well versed in Greek Mythology but some versions of the story have it where Zeus was able to best Typhoon because he had assistance from the Moirai aka the Fates. So you could argue that Typhoon was such a menace that even Zeus needed help from those who preside over fate to take down Typhoon.

Speaking of the Fates, here's a fun fact for anyone who's interested: In some versions of Greek Mythology, Zeus is actually the father of the Fates themselves with Themis, goddess of law and divine order, being their mother. It's only in some versions, mostly in Hesiod's Theogony from what I can recall, but it does give a little insight into why it seems those affected by Zeus would get screwed over by fate but not the guy himself

Actually in one of Gow 3’s guidebooks it says that Zeus is the father of the fates.

So Zeus got plot armor?
Quite literally, though I should correct myself a little: Theogony actually claims that it was Nyx who was the mother of the Moirai, though there's stories which imply Zeus is their father like the Odyssey so again it's up to the version of Greek Mythology you're trying to study.

Didn't stop Kratos from saying "**** you!" to their power and decided to just kill them and use their power against their dad....Young Kratos was built differently back in the day I tell you

In the other version the fates are daughters of Atropos - Primordial of Fate right?

I'm pretty sure the Sisters of Fate are by definition Primordials, since they are the three daughters of Erebus and Nyx. But even the Primordials pale in comparison to the might of the Sisters.

Possibly? Though Atropos is also the name of one of the sisters, essentially representing the aspect of fate which is the inevitably of death and mortality. It is commonly believed that Atropos was the oldest of her siblings so it could be that that's what you're reffering to by Atropos being the mother of Lachesis and Clotho, the other Fates

Ananke, huh? Well from what I'm currently researching right now on Google, the only sources pertaining to Ananke being the Moirai's mother is from Plato's Republic and Aeschylus', a Greek Tragedian, Prometheus Bound. Both are, afaik, the only two things which mention Ananke being the Moirai's mother, but I will link the relevant quotes into tabs if you're curious to read about them:
"And there were another three who sat round about at equal intervals, each one on her throne, the Moirai (Moirae, Fates), daughters of Ananke, clad in white vestments with filleted heads, Lakhesis (Lachesis), and Klotho (Clotho), and Atropos (Atropus), who sang in unison with the music of the Seirenes, Lakhesis singing the things that were, Klotho the things that are, and Atropos the things that are to be . . . Lakhesis, the maiden daughter of Ananke (Necessity)"

Prometheus: Not in this way is Moira (Fate), who brings all to fulfillment, destined to complete this course. Only when I have been bent by pangs and tortures infinite am I to escape my bondage. Skill is weaker by far than Ananke (Necessity).
Chorus: Who then is the helmsman of Ananke (Necessity)?
Prometheus: The three-shaped (trimorphoi) Moirai (Moirae, Fates) and mindful (mnêmones) Erinyes (Furies).
Chorus: Can it be that Zeus has less power than they do?
Prometheus: Yes, in that even he cannot escape what is foretold.
Chorus: Why, what is fated for Zeus except to hold eternal sway?
Prometheus: This you must not learn yet; do not be over-eager.
Chorus: It is some solemn secret, surely, that you enshroud in mystery.

Do You know if Zeus being affected by their abilities is true btw
Bruh? Nobody can defy the fates in GoW save for Kratos. This has been hammered in numerous times in a row.

Even in the myths AFAIK Zeus at best can prolong a mortal's life, but if the Fates say that dude is dead, that dude is dead.

Ohhh yeah forget that should include zeus

Sort of? You are right in the assumption that not even Zeus is above the machinations of the concept of fate (unless you count stuff from the Iliad and the like). But there was a held belief in some circles that since Zeus was the father of the Moirai, and that he was sometimes the god of order and fate, he held certain sway over their dominion and could influence things in a matter which benefitted him and the Olympians.

Of course that's not to say Zeus was above them, far from it, but his status as their father did give the big Z some leeway over fate to an unknown extent

That blade from gow 1 might have been the blade of Olympus bestowed in that form, after all it is not a normal sword by any means as it can harm Ares and mortally wound him.
Not really, because the Blade risked being shattered by the Sisters of Fate whereas the Blade of Olympus suffered no such weakness and could only be truly wielded by a god.

the scan also says that hercules lead the olympians to victory during the titans vs olympian war and for some reason doesn't mention hercules as hera's child
