Mortal Kombat 1 Discussion Thread

Btw since when did the discussion thread become a CRT xd

Speaking of cosmology, here's an intro between Kenshi and Ashrah about the Netherrealm's size

Kenshi: “Just how big is the Netherrealm?”
Ashrah: “I do not think anyone has found its borders.”

Also I just had an idea for how Omni Man might include the subway train scene in a finisher, he could pull a IGAU Doomsday on the opponent by pushing them through the earth until they reach an underground train tunnel where a train is heading for them and you know what happens next

Easy bro, we all want baller feats for our verses, there's no need for such snark.
I agree on the idea of not being needlessly snarky but I get the frustration.

Like, characters show multiple abilities in gameplay they don't in story but the simple fact that the devs gave these moves to the characters should be a clear sign they can do that. Like, Rain is never seen making water portals in cutscenes yet does it constantly in gameplay, that means he can't have that? Shang Tsung's fatalities respectively involve pouring acid and a liquid that gives birth to a facehugger-like creature to kill his targets and he can create metal spikes but won't get that because it's not in story? Reptile can produce a bubble of poison in gameplay but never shows this ability in the story, does that mean he can't have that?

That's the frustrating aspect in that series, characters have very nice and versatile moves, even in 1, that would greatly improve profiles yet, because of the "not shown in cutscenes = nope" rule, we can't add these abilities, even though the simple fact that the devs gave them these moves should be enough to consider they can do it. I'm not saying we should base entire tiers on that, I'm saying we shouldn't ignore gameplay abilities at least

Sounds cool in concept, but might look a bit weird when done in Outworld stages. Omni-Man just casually dimension hops everytime he does the finisher.

Then again, MK11 literally had Rambo always hide in a bunch of leaves in intros no matter where.

Rain and Reptile do their moves during story gameplay, that's fair game

Personally I think it's silly to not use fatalities because those are like... the first thing people think of upon hearing "Mortal Kombat", and multiple fatalities have been used canonically (Mileena, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and D'vorah have). They're supposed to showcase a fighter's way of ending a fight lethally

The sillier ones like Centrion and Liu Kang can just be outliers, doesn't mean all the Tier 9 and 8 ones deserve to be ignored lol

But Cyrax High 5-A bombs!

Oh yeah Onaga gets hyped as hell, everyone including Lui Kang considers trying to tame him as a suicide mission, Shang Tsung outright refuses to help Reiko try and fight him because he thinks trying to tame Onaga of all things is a fools errand, Lui Kang also seems extremly worried about what will happen if Shao and Reiko do manage to free Onaga, and then if we include the intros including Geras there's a timeline where Onaga became a titan and is considered to be the most powerful of them all.

This. Fatalities are not necessarily indicative of a tier but we should at least give them the abilities displayed in these moves

Maybe we can give her a tier including this but the move is not the basis for it. Like "(Normal tier), up to 5-A via size-shifting" or something similar and not necessarily scale anyone (outside maybe of the Titans since they're supposed to be far above the Elder-we're-totally-useless-lazy-dumbasses-Gods and Fire God Liu). That way, she would have it and we would have tier 5 MK characters but not everyone would scale and it would avoid inconsistencies like making Jax or Smoke tier 5 since it would only come from a special ability and not be her regular tier

As for Liu Kang, I still wish we could give him his black hole, not as an AP feat but as an ability

Don't just say it man share it

Yeah basically Onaga is seemingly the most powerful character from this timeline and I'm so hyped if he's back

Honestly I don't get why they haven't brought back onaga as the final boss that would've been better than dealing with Shang tsung again

Can you imagine One Being-Amped Onaga as the big bad guy in Mortal Kombat 1 instead of Shang Tsung?
I imagine that at one point after consuming the elder gods in his ending within MK Deception, he noticed the different timelines that were created by the battle of Liu Kang and Shang Tsung, so he decides to go conquer it.

Honestly would've been better especially making him more of a endgame threat
We already have a Titan Onaga out there

Seriously wished we didn't deal with Shang tsung again as a the final boss of Mk1 especially when aftermath was a nice placement for him

I guess given peeps had to ask what about the bad ending from aftermath they had to get that out the way

I honestly thought the whole Damashi twist was nicely done and kind of a good way to wrap up things for future instalments, like now that the last menace of the old timeline is done, the New Era can truly follow its own path and not an almost identical story like the previous instance of time meddling. Plus I can't help but like how Shang Tsung is such a backstabber he even manipulates himself in the story. Like, this is some pretty impressive level hère

Plus it also gave us one of the best Shang anyway

I think there’s some decent AP feats to be found that could upgrade non-god tiers.

There’s a scene where Sindel collapses a roof with her scream, and Quan-Chi, Raiden, and Shang Tsung are capable of destroying a massive portal (pretty sure this is above 8-C)

Also there’s a feat of Ermac tossing an entire tree at Ashrah but I’m not sure if it’s as strong as the first two feats

Can anyone here calc and/or get someone to calc?

The feats we need calced are;

Shang Tsung: Breaks a hole in wall with fireball.
Scorpion: Melted stone swords from heat aura.
Sindel: Breaks ceiling with her screech.
Raiden, Shang Tsung, and Quan Chi: Blasts portal with elemental powers. Again here.
Dark Rain: Lifts and disperses a bunch of water.

Just eyeballing it, Shang Tsung's feat is 9-B, Scorpion's is (idk heat energy, maybe 9-A?), Sindel's is 9-A, and the trio's feat is 8-C divided by three, and Rain's is maybe 9-B or 9-A

The order of importance is probably Sindel > Trio > Scorpion > Rain > Shang Tsung

I plan to replay story mode soon, I'll keep an eye out. The only other feats off the top of my head are;
  • Reptile's KE from his dropdown attack
  • Sub-Zero freezing people
  • Nitara's KE and speed in one of her attacks because she actually moves really fast
I'm trying to think of any impressive special moves during gameplay, but I can only think of Reptile's bellyflop
We have the feats, just waiting on calcs

All of those feats are just tier 9

Went through all of the special moves already and there isn't much that's beyond tier 9

Scorpion does some cool shit in his Invasion intro where he creates a massive fire wall around him, not sure abt the exact value but considering heat energy it could be tier 8

So, how strong and fast is Fire God Liu Kang ?
Apparently his and Shang Tsung’s battle released mammoth energies that ripped apart space time, so likely Low 2-C

In terms of speed, maybe the energies could be scaled to Massively FTL+ since they did rip apart the universe but idk
