Mortal Kombat 1 Discussion Thread

As if we saw Liu Kang literally traversing such a distance.
I ain't holding my breath for Immeasurable speed in MK as well, just asking if we can get something out of Liu Kang and his Tital pals fighting Shang Tsung and his goons in a place that's described to be "beyond the realms".

From the looks of it even the void is beyond the Hourglass

Just let them dodge jobber Kotal Kahn's sunbeam and we can get FTL+ to MFTL MK

Yeah, the Void seems pretty unhelpful. It just contains people, whilst they're still completely conscious inside and are able to observe the events in the realms.

Has anyone ever dodged Kotal's sunbeams in MKX/MK11?
It's just how it used to be in the old games apart from the time mechanics addition

No but Mileena firing Shinnok's Amulet before the sun beam that Kotal channeled to block it has potential. Don't get your hopes up tho

I wonder if they're going to make him a "simple" barbarian who fights without anything magical or give him some occult abilities or weapons, maybe related to Crom (granted considering Crom's attitude about his followers, or anything else for that matter)

Can anyone here calc and/or get someone to calc?

The feats we need calced are;

Shang Tsung: Breaks a hole in wall with fireball.
Scorpion: Melted stone swords from heat aura.
Sindel: Breaks ceiling with her screech.
Raiden, Shang Tsung, and Quan Chi: Blasts portal with elemental powers. Again here.
Dark Rain: Lifts and disperses a bunch of water.

Just eyeballing it, Shang Tsung's feat is 9-B, Scorpion's is (idk heat energy, maybe 9-A?), Sindel's is 9-A, and the trio's feat is 8-C divided by three, and Rain's is maybe 9-B or 9-A

The order of importance is probably Sindel > Trio > Scorpion > Rain > Shang Tsung

I plan to replay story mode soon, I'll keep an eye out. The only other feats off the top of my head are;
  • Reptile's KE from his dropdown attack
  • Sub-Zero freezing people
  • Nitara's KE and speed in one of her attacks because she actually moves really fast
I'm trying to think of any impressive special moves during gameplay, but I can only think of Reptile's bellyflop

Once again, the devs said that Rain is strong enough to kick you around the world despite not being a physically oriented character. Or are you lot going to continue to ignore this just because it doesn't happen in a cutscene?

Ngl without finishers MK1 is embarrassingly lacking compared to even its previous timelines, no definite speed calc yet and lower showings for even those who are supposed to be top tier, except for titans Shang and Liu. They only got new and relatively improved abilities (Shang, Kenshi, Liu, Geras) from the first story mode so I wonder if Invasions being considered canon down the road (hope I'm not forgetting but I think he said they're not canon FOR NOW) and the story ending feats will add a lot to their tiers. Not only does it have Rain's flood feat but Shao's ancestors restrained Onaga (super big guy) with their pure might (both with magic and LS) in his ending so I wonder if Shao being the jobber he is right now has a lot to redeem if he's to be comparable to his ancestors

Right now I'd like to hold back on MK1 CRTs and focus on the previous games because even the MK9-11 versions need a polish

That reminds me, in MK3’s intro they refer to Earthrealm as just the planet earth as opposed to part of the entire universe like NRS treats the realms. Does that mean Midway and NRS have different cosmologies on top of that?

I think earthrealm being just the planet got retconned as early as deadly alliance, Nitara refers to earthrealms sun as being deadly to her people implying that the realm includes, well, the sun.

Dunno if this was already brought up, but are we treating Subzero physically breaking free of Ermacs telekinesis as a lifting strength feat or resistance to telekinesis? Because we could get some decent lifting strength ratings from Ermac and Kenshi chucking a bunch of large boulders at high speed

In MK1 they straight say the realms form the universe so that's that
Does this imply that the realms occupy the same Universe (Like, is Outworld just located at a different galaxy?), or is Liu Kang referring to the realms generally, like the Mortal Kombat Universe as a whole?

Because each realm having their own time-space wouldn't make sense in this case. no? Aren't the realms their own universes?

The Void exists in Liu's universe, which is the space between realms. It's not outer space since you can see through time in the Void, so it's probably separate worlds with the Void between them

Yeah, I though so. So Liu Kang was just speaking generally then, when referring to the realms as comprising the whole of the Universe. The universe he's saying here is just the entire cosmology.

And I really doubt Liu Kang would be so stupid as to make it so that each realm share the same universe so Outworld can have an even easier time conquering all other realms. It just doesn't make sense narratively.

It's never been like that in any universe in the MK games ever. Even the initial writer for the very first MK, John Tobias, had something like this in mind rather than Outworld travelling through outer space to conquer realms

Would their physical strength scale to their magical feats or should we count them as one like the old profiles?

For the finishers, there's Liu Kang creating a black hole
