EXTREMELY URGENT: Gfycat is shutting down completely on September 1st. Please help out with replacing all of our wiki gif links to this site.

Well, for what it is worth, a Fandom staff member told me that it is fine and that we should use our wiki for uploading images.
 
Well then, we still need to find a good alternative for Imgur's Album functions and the size limit.

I have already done this with some of the verses I support but I fear it is only a matter of time before we all get caught with our pants down.

Plus, we lack an albums function for when one feat requires multiple scans to explain, not to mention the obvious image size limit we are currently faced with. That needs to be dealt with as well.

I'm currently experimenting with gallery-dl (Just in case we might also need to transfer Imgur stuff), a tool similar to what I use for semi-automatically downloading gfycat videos, but for Imgur. It downloads the content of the Imgur links. However, I'm unsure about the appropriate location to place these files, especially considering that one of the major and largest platforms to upload stuff on, Imgur, is also not immune to the risks. And if Imgur is not safe, I don't know what other platforms are safe.

Regarding the size limitations on FANDOM, using lossy or lossless programs like HandBrake or FFmpeg for videos, and ImageMagick or FileOptimizer for images, should help reduce file sizes and mitigate the issue that we have with FANDOM size limit. I've been using HandBrake for reducing gfycat video sizes so that the files do not surpass the limit that FANDOM imposes.

To address the issue of albums, I have a somewhat unconventional suggestion. We could consider utilizing user blogs as a solution. The blogs can be named based on the album's wiki link structure. For example, if the imgur album's link is "/aNeRyJT," the corresponding blog could be named "User blog:USER/aNeRyJT." I am not sure if it's good having that many blogs though.

Well, the way I see it, if we upload images to our own wiki we will only face a single risk of our wiki eventually being shut down, whereas if we also upload them to Imgur, we also face a risk of our wiki turning almost nonfunctional on top of the first risk, which would not be mitigated by partially linking to an external site.

I don't disagree, but the only approach that comes to my mind for addressing the concern of albums while also directly uploading files to the wiki is this:

Question: Though I've deleted every Test: page related to this project, some Talk: pages also have a /@comment attached to them and look quite similar to Test: pages, so should I delete those as well?

You don't need to delete any of them. A DPL sandbox can just automatically siphon those out leaving only the User:Blogs and the Pages. Sure, it relives some clutter, but it really should not be the priority right now.

I'm sorry, but that's not what I'm asking. I want to know if it's acceptable to delete them, not if it's necessary.
 
 
I'm not sure I'm understanding. Is the issue being addressed gfycat albums (if that's even a thing?) or Imgur albums, and if it is, why should it matter? You can link to each entry on Imgur outside of the album.

The discussion focuses on the preference for directly uploading content to the wiki as a better option. This preference arises from the understanding that Imgur is not immune to the risks of shutting down. The concern is that if Imgur shuts down, all the associated links would stop working. On the other hand, if the contents are uploaded directly to the wiki, the only risk is basically the possibility of the wiki shutting down.

With that in mind, let's go to the topic of albums. When the text links to an Imgur album, the wiki's available features do not fully facilitate the inclusion of all the content from that album. So, replacing a single text or sentence that links to an album of 30 images, for example, poses significant difficulty if we want the text to refer to files directly uploaded to the wiki.

I'm not sure if we should be having this discussion in this Gfycat thread though.
 
Imgur is still going strong + if some scans contain things Fandom doesn't allow (Such as graphic content or naughty words), then Imgur or other image hosting sites might still be preferable.

Well I did say the Imgur stuff is derailing a couple comments back already so I am not sure why we're discussing it here, best to leave it on another thread.

Anyway, another solution is to possibly, maybe link the images on the references whenever multi-page feats are involved? Like "Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, etc..." kind of thing.

It could work, but we'd either get a massive amount of blogs or (if we do it by franchise), stuff like DC/Marvel would have stuff that consists of hundreds to thousands of images.

As for the rework, what's the current list? I'll get through a section today and either move them to the wiki site or change them to an imgur thing.

It's an unconventional suggestion to where to store files from Imgur galleries (if Imgur is also not considered 100% safe), and I explained it further here:

Well, I apologize, but maybe not now. I do not have time for it currently, I also want to finish the Gfycat issue first before moving to a different issue. Also, I don't know how urgent the Imgur stuff is yet.

I'm not sure if the list has been purged or if the page cache has been refreshed because I haven't checked. However, I have completed entries starting from T-Z. So, if there are still pages starting with those letters, please avoid working on them. Also, kindly specify the letter you intend to handle to prevent overlapping work with other project contributors.

If by "update" you mean remove the pages that were fixed, the DPL automatically does it. Sometimes if the edits are more recent it just takes a while for it to remove them. To solve this tho, I noticed that if you touch the sandbox's edit button (as if you were going to edit the sandbox) and then go to Visual editing, it will give you the most recent version of everything that fits the DPL's parameters.
