Hello.

This is just a note that next week Fandom's Oasis layout skin is being retired:

?useskin=oasis will remain as a URL parameter for testing for a couple of weeks after that, but after that the skin will be gone forever.

Edit:

You can read further information here:

That was the one before the current one, right?
Yes. Some of our members have continued to use it by changing their wiki settings, but that will not be possible soon.

How unfortunate as I am more used to the old format of Fandom than the new format of Fandom. My stances after the new format's implementation remains unchanged in terms of being neutral.

I will not deny the new one has flaws, but the old one also has flaws (not glaring ones fortunately since I assume it is minor at least). I am curious on what the new skin will been and hopefully retain some if not all of the old one.

I'm not very fond of this new skin at all, but hey, at least it's been improved since its initial beta rollout.
I'd rather have this than nothing. I will miss Oasis though.

Well, at least I think that we have made all of the required adjustments in preparation for the change.

Yeah, while constructive criticism is fine, going on full on rants should probably be kept to a minimum; at least publicly. I too am not satisfied with how fast or out of the blue the decide to make their changes, but it's not like it's going to destroy the platform outright or anything.

Yes, and I and other council members did manage to get Fandom to fix the problems with displaying image galleries, which was the main issue.

Well, it has a dark mode and you can adjust the page widths. Also, given that the image galleries have been fixed, and we applied the same colours as previously, not that much else has changed. The tabbers do not look as good anymore of course, but the new format is not particularly bad in that regard.

We tried to make the wiki's dark mode very similar to this forum's dark mode.

We think that the current theme is dark enough.

I don’t mind FandomDesktop that much, but that yellow header looks pretty bad.

As for Oasis, I’m really gonna miss it, makes me really wish I was on this wiki sooner.

Here is a new page with further information:

As it says, there will be a new Community Connect event this weekend to which I have been invited, although given that each of the sessions will be 5 hours long, I only have the time to attend on Sunday, and barely that.

Are there any useful questions that you would like me to ask? However, I cannot promise that I will find them appropriate, that I will get the opportunity to ask them, or that I will remember the answers well though, given for how long I will have to try to focus.

I'd like to ask if it will be possible to open slideshow galleries by cliking on them, just like normal galleries.

When you click on a common gallery, a window/box opens and you can scroll the images in the gallery, with them being bigger, having the name of the file visible and else (idk if I'm describing it properly).

Basically it would be nice if you could to the same with slideshows.

That seems more like the kind of questions that should be asked to Kirkburn via a Zendesk email than during the Community Connect. I can ask him if you wish though.
Why is every update consistently worse?
Well, the main good parts about the UCX update are that it is possible to select a dark mode or greater screen width for those who wish, and the bad parts that the Fandom navigation bar takes up room to the left, which messes up our previous formatting for header images in character profile pages. However, the Fandom staff want the navigation bar to be more visible/impossible to miss, so visitors also interact with other wikis and news articles after they have stumbled over a single article via a Google search.

Yes, I also think that it interferes with the page layouts, but they think that it will bring greater attention to Fandom as a platform from casual article visitors.

Yes, but they have made their decision. Everything else is mostly fine except for that part in my opinion.

I have now asked them about if they would be willing to move back the navigation bar to the top of the screen if their experiment to make visitors interact more with the site at large does not work out.
