Calamity RP - Registration Thread

Name: Niyoshi (Name I'm going with for now)

Age: At least 2,000

Gender: Male

Appearance: TBA (I can't draw for shit)

Backstory: Unknown to most (He won't share, this is also just clever wording for I have no idea)

Power: Atomic Execution (Temporary name)
Niyoshi can manipulate a small amount of atoms around him, primarily to attack his enemies on a cellular level, being able to cut through many cells in the body with atom sized sharp objects, and to a lesser extent, is able to use this to protect his own body by increasing the density of atoms in his body, although this leaves him very drained, and he can't protect himself and attack at the same time.

Skills:
Extremely skilled sword fighter, primarily uses one katanna, not to say he can't use more.
Centuries of life has given him pretty good tactical knowledge, although he isn't a complete master at quite a few.

Okay I am pretty sure if someone can lift a skyscraper by its atoms they shoot atoms thru your cells but that isn't the point it's that your power is insanely weak compared to everyone else's power do to the fact you made it so you can't defend and attack and your attacks are against cells and everyone has super regen a calamity without their special power could realistically walk up and pummel your character.

Right so, doing what I said I'd do. Not sure on the exact day it'll start though, since I've been dragged from one doctor to the next recently.

@Overlord775

You're good.

@Faruel1998

While the power is fine, I'd rather not have a straight up alien in this, so I'd ask that this be changed.

@Fastestthingalive50

An appearance description would be appreciated, as well as saying if you're from this world or some other one. The power is fine though it doesn't need to be as limited as it is.

Ok, as for appearance: He wears a cape and has hair that covers part of his eye, due to having a lot of power in one. He has a katana located underneath his cape, which he sometimes takes off during battle. He is from a different dimension, which was located near Earth before it went bye.

Name: Theresia Orlando Taylor

Age: 20's

Gender: Female

Appearance: Constantly changing due to her power, but generally an attractive young woman.

Backstory: (From this world)

Power: Theresia has the ability to realize other's desires, both figuratively and literally. Peering into the hearts of others, Theresia automatically takes on the traits that the people around her find most desirable. This includes things such as strength and abilities, physical appearance, even intellect, and personality. Theresia will always become someone most endearing to the targets of this ability, giving her a very indirect sort of protection by happenstance. Theresia can also use this on others to grant them changes they desire on themselves.

A weakness of this ability is that Theresia can't pick and choose which desires of a person to be realized, and it tends to be a mixed bag. While she might gain a boost in strength from someone who wishes to be protected, that same person may also have a preference for a sadistic woman with massive "assets" that make fighting more difficult. Additionally, because her personality also changes, Theresia isn't always in control of her resulting actions from the transformation in the strictest sense. Granted, Theresia always has a sense for what desires a person has, so she'll know of any undesirable changes that may occur beforehand.

Skills:

  • Adaptability: Theresia naturally gains skills depending on the whims of fate due to her ability. She's never thrown off by this though, taking in any new skills as if she's used them all her life. While she does have her ability to thank in part for this in these specific cases, Theresia does have a natural talent for adapting to things on the fly.
  • Social Influencing: Perhaps due to experience, if not only immense inherent talent, Theresia is extremely skilled at using her desirable traits to win the hearts and minds of others. It takes considerably less time and effort for her to become friends, or if desired, enemies with someone than it would for any normal person under the same circumstances. She can sway the minds of the most stubborn individuals with a few words, convince someone of the most ludicrous lies devoid of logic. Granted enough time and opportunity, wars could be started or ended through only her words. She's even capable of communicating complex ideas through subtle facial expressions and/or gestures alone. One must truly stay on guard around her lest they intend to be trapped in her web.
  • Endurance: When it comes to getting what she wants, Theresia really doesn't know when to stop. She has no fear of how her actions may negatively affect her. In fact, the pain only excites and encourages her more, giving Theresia a boost in ways far more acute than adrenaline would. Of course, this isn't always a good thing. Pain being denied its usual purpose causes Theresia to sometimes ignore danger, and even in her excitement, seek it out directly. She may also push herself too far beyond the limits of what her still very real stamina can account for and lose consciousness in the heat of the action. Still, being able to last longer than most has its obvious benefits.

Name: Karcer Mills

Age: Unknown, possibly mid 40s

Gender: Male

Appearance: Yes

Background: Awakening several months after the Cataclysm in a ditch located close to a dilapidated, and in some areas outright cratered, city, the strange creature who would come to be known as Karcer Mills held no recollection of his previous existence aside from his last name and vague ghostly visions of a woman and her children.

Instead of pursuing these strange visions in any way, he packed up shop of exactly one pair of pants and shoes which he found that could somehow fit his mutated physiology and decided to excise himself to the ocean, with which he felt a connection, rambling all the while about the pettiest things one can possibly imagine.

Fastforward several years and the lobsterman finds a peaceful existence among the planet's oceanic fauna and flora, or at the very least what's left of it. He yearns for and searches still for his missing pair of legs, which will make him a true crab (he has not figured out this is an empty dream yet, as he is a lobster, not a crab).

Power:
  • Exoskeletal Extravaganza: Karcer's power is the ability to corrupt materials into biological extensions of himself through touch alone. This usually manifests in the form of exoskeletons with muscles attached, though it can also reproduce organs, blood, and essentially any other tissue present in a lobster. How these tissues function and remain alive is as most of his anatomy unknown, though they will eventually wither away into nothing once he's passed a certain range away from them.

The effect of this power on other living creatures varies. Humans and other animals suffer horrific mutations into mindless part-crustaceans, whereas plants, fungi and other organisms just get repurposed into regular extensions, similar to inorganic materials. This disparity may have something to do with animals' lack of a cellular wall.

The extended biomass is directly connected to and controlled by Karcer, and can be used for the manipulation of objects, or to spread the corruption. Calamities are notably resistant to it, though only in the sense that their regeneration will eventually drive the corruption off any affected body part.

The corruption also has to be activated consciously, and cannot continue being spread passively. The created extensions can reach the range of an entire city, and also possess similar physical stats to Karcer himself, though notably cannot regenerate. New tissue has to be created in the case of the old's destruction.

Parts of already generated extensions can be manually attached to damaged or destroyed sections of his own body to replace the tissue, though it takes the new tissue some time to properly integrate itself, leading to decreased functionality.

Skills:
  • Good with Machines: For whatever reason Karcer's crustacean headhole still possesses a good degree of technical expertise, specifically in vehicular engineering. He might not be able to build himself a plane (in a reasonable timeframe), but he can fix damn near anything that comes his way, provided he's got the parts.
  • Animal Expertise: Perhaps a direct consequence of mostly hanging around the wilderness since his change, perhaps another carry-over from his previous life, Karcer has an almost instinctual understanding of animal behavior. The only animals he seems to not understand, and frankly does not want to understand, are humans and other Calamities, though he can still deal with them fine if the situation calls for it.

Notes:
  • Telling him he is not a crab will cause him to go into denial. Pushing the issue could result in RAEG and despair. Inquiring about his missing fifth pair of limbs accomplishes much the same.
  • He is still growing due to his mutations, molting occasionally into a larger exoskeleton. He currently stands at 2.54 meters (8'4) tall and weighs 560 kilograms (1235 lbs). His physiology also has several other notable quirks, such as his sensitive antenna and blue blood as opposed to red.
  • Despite his cranky disposition and threatening appearance, he is for the most part harmless to those who don't try to get on his nerves.
  • His primary arms are not suited whatsoever in doing delicate work. He will typically use his secondary and tertiary pairs of limbs to accomplish such tasks, located on his chest.

I know I said this before but outside of extraordinary circumstances I will actually try to start it this week, likely Thursday or so.

@Edwellken

Reading some of that was painful

That aside, you're fine.

@Crabwhale

As are you.

Also this is your third character idea at this point randomly changing in nature might as well be your calamity.

Calamity, Terraria Calamity... Well you know who I'm going to be using!

Name: Eonara, Calamitas

Age: Hundreds of years

Gender: Female

Appearance: What else?, Transformed State(After gaining too much energy)

Backstory: Eonara was born in a mountainous region to a family of extremely skilled mages whose destructive powers rivaled those of demigods. They taught her how to master the vehement and volatile natures of dark energies, without giving in to the negative emotions that these powers can inflict upon the wielder. "The dark is within all of us, but when gazing into darkness the darkness also gazes into you," her father told her, quoting a famous philosopher. However, one morning, after a particularly heated clash with a rivaling faction, Calamitas woke up to find her parents and siblings dead, hung on crucifixes by an angry mob. Filled with hatred and rage, Calamitas forgot what her parents had taught her, and brought devastation upon the mob, burning them with hellfire and teleporting them to the underworld to be tortured for eternity. Calamitas, defeated and sobbing, retreated to her now-vacant cave carved out in the mountainside, taking to practicing the magic of necromancy in order to revive her parents and 2 brothers.

After her success in bringing back her siblings she heard an ethereal and almost-mesmerizing voice telling her to seek refuge in the Jungle. Following this, Calamitas wandered toward the Jungle, entranced by some unknown force. She found her way into the Jungle Temple, where Yharim, the man who had spoken to her, resided. He had felt her mastery over the dark forces due to her immense and manic outburst of destructive power. He eventually recruited her into his army after several long and persuasive talks over what truly matters in their world. When Amidias refused to help Yharim in a ritual, to awaken a slumbering god, Yharim had Calamitas incinerate the oceans as her first mission, thus causing the Desert Scourge to go on a rampage.

But, somewhere deep down in her psyche, the good in Calamitas still existed. Weeks passed, each day she argued more and more with herself over what was necessary to achieve a goal, and ultimately began distrusting Yharim. One day, Calamitas met with Yharim and attempted to convince him that his logic is flawed. Yharim heard none of it, and sent her immediately out of his throne room. That very same day, Calamitas betrayed Yharim by unleashing the ancient Golem using one of the ancient Power Cells. The Golem rampaged through the temple, distracting Yharim and his soldiers. Calamitas used this time to sneak up to Yharim's throne and procured a few documents containing some helpful information on Yharim's most valiant opponents, Braelor and Statis.

When Yharim and his men obliterated the Golem he cursed Calamitas for her betrayal. Due to her being a fair distance away the curse had a lessened impact on her, but it still managed to worm its way into her mind. Over time the curse slowly drove her mad, and ultimately she ended up returning to Yharim's side after the deaths of Braelor and Statis. Yharim has since removed the curse in exchange for her infallible servitude and unimaginable cruelty towards his opponents...

Power: Standard Calamity powers, Deconstruction (A mere spark of Abyssal flame is enough to turn one into dust, and enough exposure turns one into vapor), Hellfire Manipulation, Existence Erasure (Given a lot of time to concentrate Eonara can wipe someones physical form from existance) Illusion Creation, Telepathy, Flight, Corruption (All types) and Chaos Manipulation (Abyssal flames corrupt an area and those around it turning all afflicted into chaotic masses of energy), Durability Negation (Via numerous abilities), Life and Death Manipulation (Can manipulate the life force of individuals, and make them drop dead after channeling her energy ), Clairvoyance, Teleportation

To tie this together Calamitas relies on twisting her own Calamity energy to form her attacks, as well as keeping control over them as to not lose herself and go into her transformed state, which she can only get out of once she regains control over her power, and Calamitas can manipulate anywhere her energy present to which she can move it around to move herself and see where her energy is. And with bringing forth her power she can tap into the very life force and structure of anyone around her with fatal results.

Skills: tactician, philosopher, historian, general,

Notes:

death manip and EE take 20-30 seconds to charge, they would get Calamitas killed dozens of times over if she wasn't protected for that long
Corruption and Chaoe manip are not combat-acclible unless someone decides sleeping on the ground is a good idea
Calamitas only transforms in times of extreme negative emotions as she loses control over her Calamity energy
Transformed Calamitas is completely insane.

Reaper, did you even read the rules ?

for first thing, "the abilities have to be connected into what can reasonably be called a power."

secondly, "No particularly esoteric stuff for powers yet (Concept manip, Plot and such)"

Thirdly, "thought based instant kills and such are a no go"

Firstly, the abilities are connected directly with the mind/soul, which can reasonably be called a power.

Secondly, I didn't know EE, concept manip, and death manip that took long enough to get the woman killed dozens of times over(has to channel for 20-30 seconds) would count on that

Thirdly, nothing there is thought-based, the fastest things are Hellfire manip and teleportation and they take a second channel time, and considering like 90% of people are going to be comparable or faster then the woman a projectile or beam isn't hard to dodge.

This is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi setting. There are no souls and there is no actual magic. Can you figure out why your character doesn't fit in from there?

If you want to get an idea of what kind of powers do fit in, take a look at the characters of other people.

Thats an easy change

Conceptual manipulation isn't allowed, souls don't exist, actual hellfire can't reasonably exist and you still need to tie all your powers together and give an explanation for what your ability actually is and how it works.

Did you really take a look at the already accepted abilities? Or read through the OP carefully?

Firstly, the abilities are connected directly with the mind/soul, which can reasonably be called a power.
That's waaaaaaaaaaay too lax, as them affecting the same thing isn't enough as they are effectivelly wildly different powers

like, that's the same level of connection as saying that electricity manipulation and ice manipulation can be under the same power because they "affect matter"

Secondly, I didn't know EE, concept manip, and death manip that took long enough to get the woman killed dozens of times over(has to channel for 20-30 seconds) would count on that
concept hax isn't allowed on principle, also that seems like you are trying to cheese tbh

the death and EE definitelly sound thought based

also

Calamitas depends on the amount of energy in the environment as her power source, if she is in an area without energy she would be left as a Calamity without any powers.

You can't have that, as Calamities are powered by energy from their bodies, and that isn't something that you can change as it's tied to their intrensic nature

Death and EE sound thought-based because I ripped their descriptions from Magnus the Red, who is almost entirely thought-based hax

I do like cheese... yes I was, the excuse was it takes too long to do anything of use and I may as well have Calamitas hold up a sign saying "Kill me now"

Then I suck at understanding it

Anyway, apart from the abilities that are just straight up not possible to have, you need to tie them all together in one power and explain how it works.
Currently it's just a list of separate abilities that vaguely follow a theme.

Just did that

"To tie this together Calamitas relies on twisting her own Calamity energy to form her attacks, as well as keeping control over them as to not lose herself and go into her transformed state, which she can only get out of once she regains control over her power. By spreading her energy Calamitas can manipulate anywhere her energy present to which she can move it around to move herself and see where her energy is. And with bringing forth her power she can tap into the very life force and structure of anyone around her with fatal results."

So that doesn't explain: hellfire manipulation, illusion creation, telepathy, existence erasure, flight corruption, chaos manipulation, clairvoyance and teleportation.

Also why would life-based powers and matter hax fall under the same power. It doesn't explain how it accomplishes these, just that it does.

And apparently I suck at explaining it too, Since it would be a waste of everyone's to write an essay to try and explain it(which I probably could) I should probably drop this. Which shows that if I can't simplify it I usually begin going in circles, which is what I'm doing here just thinking about it

You could also just take a page from someone else's book and see how other players have explained their powers.
