Crazy dnd sword
And it only took like the length of all my previous brackets combined to get here, folks

Sixteenth round of the 8-B Brackets Begins! Winner of the last round was Lord.

Current Standings

Hub

The contenders for this round are the The Hunter (Monster Hunter), submitted by Mr. Bambu, and Dante (Devil May Cry), submitted by RebubleUselet.

DMC 3 Dante, Low-Rank Hunter. Speed is equalized, battle takes place in the trippy demon world from the reboot, combatants start 20 meters away.

Dante is >> 46 Tons, Hunter is 20.2 Tons.

The Hunter (Monster Hunter) -

For real though. So Dante is smart but nothing too crazy so i guess the passive mind pain won't be bothering him too much.

This is DMC3 dante, so i guess Quicksilver is a thing.

Imma go with Dante for now.

Pretty sure Dante just yeets The Hunter via sheer AP, despite the abilities he has.

And yeah, Quicksilver, as well as Doppelganger. He's got some good skills too. Going with him, for the time being.

Dante has a pretty huge AP advantage, given that he completely stomps early bosses who can perform the feat by Roaring, so he likely one shots.

What does Hunter lead with?

i wanna say dante, since most of his stats are just simply above the hunters. im not savy on either verse, but i know more about dante then the hunter, so correct me if im wrong

Bambu's said repeatedly that it's not passive.

The brackets won't go on if Bambu has a good counter. Right now, the arguments seem solid in Dante's favour, so I'll vote for him

Because after looking through both profiles, I find Dante's arguments to be convincing.

Why vote before opposing arguments have been made at all?
Because the opposing arguments haven't been made. Votes can change if the opposing arguments are convincing, it's not like the votes are locked lol

voting before an opposing argument is made is generally frowned upon, especially in these brackets

Anyhoo. Can I just say that I am 100% shocked we even made it here, this took longer than expected. Let's get to Hunter's stuff that nobody has bothered to hear before voting for a popular verse, shall we?

Hunter's stealth is impeccable. As in, literally cannot be detected whilst walking around the enemy and doing dances or whatever. These enemies have vastly enhanced senses to the point of some (such as Bazel) being able to pinpoint you from across a sector just to come and ruin your day. This is something Hunter spams.

Hunter also tends to spam status effects such as short-lived paralysis and sleep abuse (Shock Traps and Tranq Bombs in that order). While these don't guarantee a win-condition as they're relatively short lived (minutes on creatures the size of houses, so probably longer than that for Dante but not to the point of a 24 hour win), they do grant the Hunter essentially the chance to just wail on him with literally no resistance. Again, this is heavily in-character to open with given the opportunity (which shouldn't be an issue here).

Hunter's AP is also just straight up >>>20 tons due to pretty casually destroying the Giadrome, a relatively weak enemy that did the 20 ton feat. Furthermore, harming a sentient, above average intelligence enemy means that AP is further expanded on based purely on dragon element. This means AP gap is not as big as people have suspected. Even before it was less than 3x, what even.

We're also looking at sheer versatility here. "Ap lol" isn't an actual counter to any of this. I won't delve into terms of skill since IIRC they're roughly even (both considered top tier fighters compared to others of the verse).

As a final note, a large part of the vote for Dante seems to come with Quicksilver, which as I understand it is a temporary time-slow effect. MH has time manipulation on documented monsters by the Commission so this isn't exactly something new, not to mention that Elderseal negs that pretty instantly. I'm not even sure that'd be the opening move to begin with (which it would need to be to avoid being drugged or what have you) but there you go.

I vote Monster Hunter.

I vote Monster Hunter. That's the Bambu I was waiting for.

Considering all votes before Bambu's arguments both were countered and didn't keep in mind his reasons, all previous votes are invalid, therefore grace for Hunter, 8-0.

This is why you wait until both sides arrive to debate.

(It's grace when it hits 7 votes anyway, no matter if the other side has 0 votes or 3)

I don't want to vote yet cuz I need to know some things but:

1) That stealth is something that Dante can't deal with AFAIR, so The Hunter would get some free shots at the start.

2) How does his status effects works? Are they thanks to weapons or magical power? Are they instant?

3) Cerberus, the second boss of the game has the 46 feat just by casually roaring and Dante is way above that, granted the AP difference could be just X2 or much higher but it depends how big is the scaling chain for these guys, still it's an advantage.

4) Yeah, they look even in skill.

5) Yeah, Quicksilver isn't his oppening move but if he is in a dire position he will use the best things right out of the bat. Also, how does the Elderseal works? The Dragon element is explained in it's own page but nothing about the seal.

His status effects are dealt by weapons.

That 20 tons AP Hunter scales from is from an absolute fodder, it's from bottom of the food chain. He fought apex monster of the area who are much stronger. Like, he'll be 8-B+ if we use multiplier and stuff kind.

Elderseal works by existing. It's just nulls. Just that. Not much explained too.

Are they undodgeable? The effects are instantaneously done or take some time?

For the AP Dante has quite the scaling chain so I still think he has some good AP advantage.

Thats pretty...uhmm, I dunno, I expected some sort of huge explanation of how some kind of God made that thing to keep the users safe from some bs, not just "It works" :v

Pretty dodgeable for the most part though it is usually combo'd with his stealth. It can bypass even Extrasensory Perception and Enhanced Senses like Bazelguese who can sense you from the entire continent. He needs to spam it a lot because some monsters are, haha, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

It has limited amount of Abilities it can null.
