I've heard some conflicting views on that TBH

Regardless, I believe it's thought based but I might be wrong, but if he doesn't do it in character or any of his immediate Hax I might think of bloodlusting them.

Well,the m├íster crown doesnt seem to have mind,in fact magolor soul is a manifestation of the crown after malfunctioning because of getting hit too hard. Same as star dream,which has no mind (star dream becoming sentient is because of haltmann not by himself).

Luke would probably be able to sense tat the crown is sentient and is the one in control and would therfore mindhax the crown and not Magolor. Or he could just mind hax them both at the same time.

As long as it is sentient, has no resistance on or above their level, and isn't higher dimensional then a jedi or sith can mind hax it. This has been shown repeatedly in Legends.
