Two On One Battles Being Added to Profiles.

Not open for further replies.
This kind of topic should preferably be made an explicit staff only discussion before being highlighted.

Also, it should be noted that I only support this for characters who almost cannot fight on their own, such as Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh summoners.

Well this post is more-so talking about characters who have their own individual powers, but they can't fully utilize them or even fight properly without a partner. Not just characters who have no special abilities of their own and summon/utilize much stronger creatures for battle (From what I know, those character's battles already get added).

I have moved and highlighted the thread. It is now staff only to keep it more organised.

If it's exclusive to Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh type characters, I'm fine with it. Banjo & Kazooie literally share a profile, so I think they're good too.

How would this apply to teams of more than two?

The example I have a particular interest in is Khepri / Taylor Hebert from Worm.

On her own, she's a brain damaged girl missing an arm with extremely bad motor control, who can mind read and control of anything within 16 feet (almost 5 metres) of her.

With her "team" (hundreds to thousands of people she is mind controlling), she becomes a nigh-omniscient girl with cross universal portals and range, and the abilities of almost every meta-human in Worm.

She qualifies as "can't do anything on her own", her only fight is when she is controlling them so she qualifies as "always fight together". She's even only one consciousness.

@Monarch Laciel

I think that it is best if we keep this simple, and don't involve mind-controlling anybody within the setting. A Pokemon trainer using characteristic creatures should probably be fine, but Professor X mind-controlling lots of random 4-B Marvel characters is not.

I rather stick with 1v1s. On top of the obvious reasons, 1v1 matches barely get added with any speed with the other responsibilities the content mods/admins have.

Is this post suggesting something like Jojo and stands or what?

Personally im against it unless its under certain circumstances such as Gentle Criminal having a specific key for when he's working with La Brava or Xayah and Raka having powers that only work in a certain way if theyre together, or like the stuff that has already been addressed.

Jojo with a stand, Pokemon trainers with characteristic Pokemon and the like should work imho, but we should not go any further than that.

That's different though. Professor X doesn't only fight by controlling others, and he is more than capable of fighting on his own through his own mind hax powers. Khepri can barely move on her own, and can only fight with the aid of the people she is controlling.

And it's pretty characteristic that Khepri has control over the entire multiverse's superhumans.

Well, the problem is that if we word a rule so it is acceptable to use mind-controlled other characters, this will easily be misunderstood, taken to greater extremes, and get out of hand.

As I mentioned earlier, it is best to keep any regulations simple and not open for misinterpretation.

It is probably better to avoid using Khepri in versus discussions than let one unusual instance cause problems for a more generalised context.

I have a question, is it allowed if the characters are from different verses?
Those characters do not fulfil the requirement of "usually if not always fighting together" so no

It might be rejected due to Antvasima's caution and I kinda understand it, but...

Can stuff like Midoriya Izuku's One For All Full Cowling 100% be used? It requires partnership with Eri, but she doesn't fight at all. All she does is keep grabbing his body and using her quirk at ever increasing power. However, unleashing this ability without Eri's help results in it being useless in combat, since the twist about it is that Eri keeps making time go back for Izuku, forcing him to keep fighting as to not suffer the loss of his quirk (or even his humanity), but in exchange regenerating from every wound. It basically unlocks an ability and gives him additional weaknesses (I don't even know if the Regenerationn applies to wounds not inflicted by himself).

Or maybe there could be an additional small rule like "Depending in context, character abilities which normally require external interference may be used without it, such as Izuku's 100% Full Cowling, but this does not include ones which require teaming up with a character that will actually help them in battle and is not consistently shown as a suplementary, necessary team member, such as Taylor Hebert's cross-universal range and nigh-omniscience when mind-controlling all parahumans from her setting as KheprI".

@Mand

I'm really unsure, since that was a one-time plot device and probably won't ever happen again, which doesn't fill the criteria of "almost always fighting together."

I think we should add something to prevent characters like Navi (annoying fairy from Zelda) from soloing the HST verse. Ideas?

Yeah, I know. =/ Still, it's a shame we might have to wait a year before this form can be used and then it might drastically change AP and we won't have High 8-C Izuku, lol.

He meant that she is useless on her own but partnered with Link.

I want to get this passed because I know that this problem will come up more and more in the future as the battle wiki expands and more fiction gets created. What's the problem?

1) Seperating characters who always work together is not a good representation of their true power. There are some characters who fight together so often that you would probably never see them fight by themselves.

Since summons and pets are also other characters anyway, I don't see how it'd be much different from separating them. Kiba Inuzuka doesn't use any kind of summoning ability to summon Akamaru. He can also somewhat fight without Akamaru, yet we allow his matches to be added simply because him and Akamaru are on one profile.

2) One of the examples I listed are Raphtalia and Naofumi. Raphtalia could literally never fight a tier 2 character by herself ever (not without blitzing), simply because of her being a super glass canon on the site. However, Raphtalia doesn't have that huge weakness in-story because she fights with Naofumi at all times.

It's a huge weakness that's only even exploitable on this web site because of the rules, and is never really a problem in-story

3) We already have profiles that feature more than one character. I mentioned Kiba and The Twins from Outlast earlier, but there are much more than that.

Is there any problem with creating seperate character pages for whatever team/duo there is, and assuming they work together on a regular basis and meet all the previous criteria, listing each other under standard equipment? Or maybe create a new section for it?

"listing each other under standard equipment"

I totally LOL'ed at that. Gotta equip da waifu

But yeah, your solution is actually a pretty reasonable one.

@Professor Lord

I think making a new profile for every duo who might fall into this category might be a bit much.....but "listing each other under standard equipment" is something I can get behind. Especially if it's worded as "____ may be used as standard equipment ".

I'm totally visualizing this:

Usingpersonasstandardequipment
Using person as standard equipment

  • ahem*
Is it possible to do that with Izuku to Eri in order to allow him access to his 100% Full Cowling key, given the "may" possibility, or nah? So basically your second condition (needing that person to function/use their full capacity) would be necessary.

I just wanna match him up against Go

Can we form a consensus based on PL's option of characters with really essential teams being allowed to use others as standard equipment? Such as (AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA) Sora and Shiro aka Blank.

I have removed all of the derailment and moved this thread to the content revision forum, although I think that this will significantly reduce the chances of that it reaches a well-considered conclusion, especially as I am too tired and busy to make a continuous effort to straighten out the discussion, as I usually do.

For the case with Seryu's profile. How do we handle this? Seryu is capable of fighting on her own, and has managed to do so. However, her pet, Koro is a major part of her ability to fight, and is present almost always. Said pet cannot function and fight properly without Seryu giving it orders.

So would this be an example of a viable Two in one profile?
