Komachi's story mode mentions that Hisou no Tsurugi actualy destroys souls of bodyless spirits (and ghosts) via draining their spiritual energy. Additionaly the same sword can pull spiritual energy from living beings and described as able to completely destroy soul under some conditions.

Can we asume that all SWR cast has some degree of resistance to soul manipulation (since their spiritual energy was leaking but not enough to be destroyed)? Tenshi doesn't have such problems at all though.

Not just the SWR cast though. In Gensokyo, even normal human have higher spiritual energy and mental health than the outside world, due to the land's spiritual proprety and the threat of the mystic forging their mind.

Well, some of Gensoukyou residents are more resilent than others. For example Yuyuko should be more vulnerable to Tenshi's sword (because she doesn't have physical body) but resist Hisou no Tsurugi as well as Reimu or Marisa.

Well, know that you think of it.... In the first place,in SWR Tenshi is not seriously trying to kill people. She was just letting their spirit leaked out from afar, then using that and turn it into weather, the bodyless spirit are collateral. The reason Yuyuko is fine too is that she know where it came from, and manipulate her own to aggregate the effect.

Hisou no Tsurugi actualy works by default in "absorb spirits mode" since it is it main source of energy.
