The thing is, a casual visitor to the site, looking for the version of Spider-Man that you're discussing would recognize Spider-Man (Insomniac Games), but might not recognize Spider-Man (Earth-1048)

Wouldn't it just redirect them to Spider-Man (Earth-1048) and isn't that what the top keys are for?

Yes renaming would just cause the original name to be redirected also if you look under spider-man's name in general one of the tabs say "Insomiac Games".
