They did mention that they did consider Lightman, but the story came out after the DB has pretty much wrapped up the script, and also black boxed that it has less range than Giga wonder
.....which doesn't matter here at all as the fight is happening on a planet

and has prep time of a month, so it wouldn’t be useful.
Many of Bowser's items also require prep time, Eggman's Chaos Emeralds, Neo Metal, and most of his army also require prep time

Prep time shit is bullshit. Everything in Eggman's kit requires prep. The Wonder Flower universal range requires prep.

Honestly, it makes more sense in-universe to have Eggman using the Phantom Ruby again and becoming Lightman than he using the Time Eater, or any of the previous high-end mechas or monsters.

That's what pisses me off.

****, man... Considering how similar the reasoning is, you might be right.

This is where I have some disagreements. Godzilla vs Gamera is in thier top 5 most popular and isn't at all controversial. Batman vs Spider-Man is controversial, but just because if Batman wankers who don't understand the concept of him not having prep time despite it being laid out in the episode. Mario also has a passionate fanbase, and more people were voting for Bowser. His loss would have brought potentially even more controversy, especially if they killed his son too. Dragon Ball got several victories in debatable matchups (plenty I think were undeserved, even), and Archie Sonic did get ONE. Archie Silver is the only thing that makes me still cling to a semblance of hope when it comes to Sonic in Death Battle... but now that all of their most important matchups are behind them, it no longer matters.

Except the arguments that get Mario to 5D/6D are the same ones that get Sonic to 7D/8D, and the arguments for it to scale to Mario's base are the same as the ones for it to scale to Sonic's base.
Hulk vs Broly was a debatable matchup that they won. Albeit they disagree now, Broly did indeed win fair and square. Chaos vs Kyogre is debatable but likelier than not I see Chaos winning that. Even Frieza vs Megatron was debatable and Frieza took the dub.

I'm not mad. Just dissapointed. I strongly disagree with the people who say the show should have stayed gone, but I'm sad at the fact that at this point, Death Battle will probably never have consistantly good research...

To be honest, I feel like continuously complaining about the research and results is just a pointless endeavor in the grand scheme of things.

I get that personal investment in scaling and whatnot plays a big part in how we feel about the research and results - whether positively or negatively - and I'm not gonna act as though I don't feel similarly with the franchises that I scale. But at the same time, we have to consider that not everyone, let alone those on the Death Battle team, thinks the way that we as individuals on this site do. They may view one particular feat as weaker than the ones that we consider to be incredibly strong on this site, or vice-versa, and that's just something we have to be cognizant of.

It's for that reason that I said I was basically indifferent towards how it was handled research and result-wise. It's understandable that you all (Sonic supporters) feels as though Eggman was downplayed, or that Bowser was wanked, or whatever the case may be. But just keep in mind that there are different people with different mindsets behind the machinations of these battles, and we can't fault them for having their own opinions or thought processes.

Can we have common reference names on the profiles so that revisions can be added more smoothly, please? Omega recently made changes to Shadow's profile that broke some of the references

Eggman should've won but got turbo downplayed as expected

That's all
I think the part I disliked the most was how charitable they were with Bowser but not Eggman. He's the hero of the match, he's the good boss, he's the good bad guy. He knows exactly what to do to beat Eggman. Meanwhile Eggman is mean. He's bad. He's incompetent. He can't control an army. Everyone except Metal is useless etc.

This clear bias is the worst part for me, but at least now I know I will never be Death Battle targeted fanbase. It's over. Goodbye forever, Death Battle.

Yes, I agree the coding for reference names should be unified across all the Sonic pages. That won't happen for months though, IF that.

Not to put him under the bus, but Omega should've double-checked and not allowed for that to slip by.

Maybe a little harsh but that's more or less how it was. I still like the episode it's a solid 8/10 for good voice acting, amazing animation, editing and other technical aspects. But their treatment of Eggman both in the analysis and the animation itself are what drag it down by those two points for me. It also doesn't help that they made the winner obvious by mentioning calcs in only Eggmans trailer and by suspiciously having two death battle casts in a row that featured Sonic characters. That aside Eggman also got bodied in the animation which was surprising since I would expect that such a close match would be portrayed as exactly that but for the most part it wasn't. The Egg Dragoon got stomped in fifteen seconds, then infinite got killed by a thwomp before the phantom ruby was destroyed, then Metal Sonic put in work only to die in a beam clash. From there Bowser mopped up the death egg robot which was the movie version for some reason before tanking the final egg blaster and punching Eggman really hard for the death. The only thing Eggmans efforts amounted to was getting rid of king boos crown, hitting kamek but not killing him, slightly injuring Bowser Jr and inconveniencing Bowser by making him a dry bones, thats it dude didn't even finish off Bowsers random fodder. That said I will give the episode credit for one other thing. That operation cat fish joke was hilarious and it was the most significant damage Eggman inflicted this entire fight.

They pretty much took Eggman's worst characterization from the Metal Virus and took Starline words as gospel and yet Death Battle fans really want to say both characters were "respected".

When I talked about ignoring Otherworld Comedy it was about that as well, in the era in which there are various arguments about Sonic fans themselves about "Characters not feeling the same" and "Sonic can never be consistent with characters", acknowledging a material that addresses that while paying respect to what came before is just a perfect approach, which is why I love Otherworld Comedy from a character and world settings standpoint (Which is my kind of thing, I write tons of blog posts all about that after all).

When I look at a Crossover, I want all sides to be properly depicted with all their nuances, if you don't do that, you aren't bringing those characters to a common ground, you are bringing a basic visual to engage with another one, without the actual baggage from character and world.

It seems that the episode already had a decided result long before all the recent stuff and all they could do to deal with recent stuff was "We know it happened, but it wouldn't change anything", which I fear is the worst way of approaching any type of content (Not taking into account impossible changes due to deadlines and resources). It can get even worse due to when this video was released, Sonic had a very constant push of content this year about setting right character and world aspects, all of which would not be actually used in the video due to development preparation (For real, as much as it makes for good marketing to make a video around the time of a new release, the fact that the video can be outdated by the time of release really should be something takes into more consideration).

What I think happened is that other than Wiki-level research for mechas and other random stuff to fill scenes with characters, no deeper thought was actually done to represent the characters properly with respect. It really gives way for depicting Browser's side in a certain light, but not doing so for Eggman, especially since the latest development (Again, I have no idea for how long the fight has been worked on and what their initial thought about the character was, so it could very well be the case they had a certain targeted plan for the fight and decided just to follow the plan and adjust new findings to what was already the plan, instead of backing down from the plan to fit the discovered material to it).

In the end Death Battle just is more likely than not to not care about those points, which will forever put them into a placement that doesn't matter personally to be, but due to their size and influence, will definitely shape the understanding of dozens or hundreds of persons, so I can't wait to see people thinking the DB depiction was true to the world/character settings.

To myself, the way of countering it is by making or promoting content that depicts the world and character setting as I think it would be fairer, sadly I don't know if someone is making Sonic content that does that (Other than Windii, but her is more translation so people can get this kind of stuff), so I'll instead just continue working until I release my major Sonic post, a study on the idea of "Unified Sonic", trying to showcase the core thinking of Sonic that existed since the started and could be explored again to both bring forth Iizuka's idea of having one Sonic, while giving the freedom for creators to not be limited by "one world and history", while still giving the character and world proper respect (As you can see from the way I write, I think more about using and respecting as many character and world settings as possible, giving them what I think is "fair depiction". It's one more reason the "let's make a meme" approach DB sometimes uses not feel right to me, as almost always it's done by disrespecting the "defeated character", which I think is not fair, you can have a character be defeated and still give him proper respect. Just look the way DB depicted Infinite to how Otherworld Comedy depicted Infinite, even in "death").

Oh silly you, you're just a salty Sonic fan whose mad cuz your rotund boy lost (Yes I'm bummed that my 2nd favourite villain lost but that doesn't mean that our critiques of the scaling/characterization are invalid)

Death Battle does this on purpose. I remember either hearing or seeing a video where someone said that putting purposely incorrect information draws comments to the video so they can correct it, thus bringing more views than if they said it right. Death Battle constantly does this in basically every episode, so either they're so bad at media analysis they can't get anything right, OR it's completely itentional.

Finding fun stuff from old content is always my favorite. From the SEGA 93 Winter Catalog.

時空間を駆け巡る大冒険!
A Great Adventure across Time and Space!

At least, Sonic surpassed the speed of light! Sonic's adventure across space-time finally starts to free the mysterious planet "Little Planet" from the arms of the evil Dr. Eggman. Jump into the Past and the Future, pass through numerous traps, and smash Dr. Eggman's ambitions!

There was a profile for Marugoto Sonic Fanbook that explains a bit of how Eggman developed Metal Sonic, it describes that he could have made it even faster, but doing so would make the design be ugly, so Eggman decided to keep the minimum specs so it would still look cool.

You know what I have a question for you guys. Do you think we will ever get a game adaptation of the metarex arc?
Absolutely not. Sonic X is Adventure Era content and until recently fans who loved the Adventure era were treated like crap by Sega with the constant baiting and references over the years (e.g Chaos 0 in Forces to the course corrections in Frontiers) but little actual substance. The year of Shadow plus the Paramount movies have been a long awaited Gaia send but let's not get overzealous.

It doesn't help entire scenes and context were removed in the X dub (4Kids legacy) so it'll be messy trying to balance the sub and dub content in a game. Like @Theuser789 said Sega doesn't like going back to old media (minus "classic" Sonic), it's why Sonic Underground, Satam, Boom, etc are pretty much dead outside the occasional cameo or Easter egg (Sticks will likely be retconned to being always part of main Sonic's world, if she hasn't been retconned already). There's zero sign of Riders, Storybook or Rivals coming back let alone Sonic 4 ep3 and let's not even get started on the unresolved plotlines in the Archie comics (pre and post-SGW).
What User said.

However, Ian DOES want to adapt the Metarex arc into the games. Not sure if he has enough sway or if this will be something years down the line he has to chip at, IF he's successful at all.
I mean considering he wants to scrap the Sol dimension and merge Blaze's nation with Sonic's world (undercutting a major plot point in Rush) which current Sega naturally are gonna be strongly against, I doubt he'll get his wish anytime soon. Though I can see Sega letting Ian bring NiGHTs back tho with the praise Dream Team got and Sonic LW had NiGHTs DLC too.
If Flynn's remarks are any indicator, our best bet of that is to get new management on the team.
In a hypothetical scenario when/if IDW Sonic finally does a full arc off Sonic's world (which won't happen until we see human background characters) Ian and co will still likely have to make reimagined Metarex, a new extraterrestrial threat but it's clear whom they're base on similar to Surge being a reimagined Scourge with the same concept (green Sonic glitch aka Ashura) but with fundamentally different characterization/execution.

Perhaps the "not Metarex" will be written as a rival civilization of the Black Arms that's been gradually conquering a nearby galaxy without their rivals getting in the way?

Okay, so uhm.

How is sonic going have a new game?

(Idk what to say here & my post making is reverted into a post I dont want to make.)

Shadow Generations was almost praised universally and gave us the strongest sense of "We're so back" in years Sonic Generations portion not so much

Other than that, there's a lot of constant work going on to improve the quality of the pages, so they're at least well-sourced even if people don't agree with certain things at the end of the day. Takes a ton of time but it's worth it

Infinite rep has always been in the dirt let's be real and even then he killed portion or whatever of Bowsers men and has Bowser helpless at the time
You can say DB could've done better but blame Sega handling of him in forced and no other chances of redeeming him since then

No, this is totally Death Battle's fault. I would've found Infinite's fate funny if Sonic wasn't so ****** in Death Battle. Every single episode has some form of spite, it's incredible.
