Size of Pokemon regions?

I'm sorry if this has been asked and/or answered before whether in canon or on this site, but I wanted to ask. Are the regions countries? Are they continents? Are they islands? This is for future reference just in case a Pokemon is stated to be capable of destroying an entire region or something.

This is a real legitamate question i mean with all these countless regions you would think they would have to be like islands at best because if not then the pokemon planet is like a jupiter class planet or bigger.
