Those 2 things aren't mutually exclusive, Chaos can exist as a god and as a substance as 2 different things. It is true that Chaos (God) hasn't appeared in G, but G's God tree is closer to the Taizen's than Kurumada's current portrayal is, it's reasonable to assume Chaos (the deity) exists in some form.

Even in Kurumada's universe they seem to be two different gods, and the comment at the end of the chapter (Next Dimension - Chapter 18) linking Cronus to Chronos is clearly an editor's mistake. Kurumada has not yet given any description of Chronos in his story (he only describes that he is the god of time, an unknown even to a goddess like Athena, the only god who has time manipulation in this franchise to travel in time, and we can see that he has a different form than any other god), but it seems that it is not the same god as Cronus, and is probably based on the Orphic Tradition version of Chronos, where he was the creator of everything and father of all gods, but this is still a theory because it is not described in story of Next Dimension or any of Kurumada's work.

Sisyphus, Asmita and Regulus (probably) have the 8th sense, because they followed the teachings of Ilias, the most powerful Gold Saint, that's why they stand out as the strongest. After them, I would say that Shion (Pope of the Sanctuary), Manigoldo (probably), El Cid (full power) and Degel (full power with miracles and absolute zero) are the strongest, and after those two I would say Aspros, Defteros, Dohko (with Athena' blood) and Kardia (with Athena' blood).
