BFRing Gumball doesn't work as he can just portal his way back to the fight with the Universal Remote. Rick doesn't resist plot manip so Gumball can just write a cringey fanfiction that prevents Rick from coming back. However, since Gumball wouldn't know about Project Phoenix, him using the Notebook would be something he does after taking care of Rick and seeing him come back. Which by then, Rick would have already found a way to take care of Gumball.
