renaming sonic continuities

Why are the page names for the various Sonic the Hedgehog series so uncharacteristically funky? Adding "continuity" to everything while completely ignoring the official names of said continuities is not only inconsistent with the portrayal of other multi-media franchises (see Marvel and DC) but is also ugly.

Instead of doing what is currently done, we instead either use the series' official name or apply the publisher/distributer/creator of the series in the parentheses.

I mean if you think about it, game sonic is basically the sonic. but after some thought, you should prob add (Game) at the end for clarification

These renames do largely look more visually appealing. Though maybe add "Sonic the Hedgehog (Games)" or "Sonic the Hedgehog (Series)" to the main canon page for the sake of convenience.

I think "(Games)" would confuse most people, since Sonic's page ends with "(Game)". Although, we could change that to "(Modern)" to match Classic Sonic's page... and to match the navbox.

I think the first option (aka, "Sonic the Hedgehog (Games)") look more appealing and clearly establish it's the game continuity, similarly to how, for example, Dragon Ball do with its own game profiles

Disagree, I believe"(Game)" should remain in there for identification

Classic Sonic's current page is being planned to represent Mania Sonic instead, with Classic Sonic being planned to return as a key in Modern's profile.

Renaming OVA to StH: Movie is a mixed bag of an idea, considering the recent success of the Paramount films. Even if you refer to Paramount as (Film Series), you'd still have people who'd be confused as to which is leading them to which one unless you name it Sonic the Hedgehog (Paramount) or (Paramount Films). Imo either leave it as OVA because of the familiarity that everybody and their mother has with it or name it Sonic the Hedgehog (1996 Film).

I disagree.

Sonic the Hedgehog refers to

The Character (Every version of him)
The Franchise
The Video Games
The Comic (Archie and IDW)
The Saturday morning tv show
The Movies made by Paramount
etc

Not one entity holds that name. The current naming on the wiki is for organization purposes.

Sonic isn't like DC and Marvel. Mostly all of Sonic's verses share the same name.

Sonic the Hedgehog

We don't have fancy names like, Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC Comic, Dark Knight trilogy, etc, to separate them. Its that reason why Sonic the Hedgehog has been a hard pop culture franchise to powerscale, since everything shares the main Hog's name. The organization under "continuity" is not for Sonic fans, but for accessibility to the wider community.

If this site was just about our hero Sonic the Hedgehog, like Sonic NewsNetwork, thats a different story. VSBattles is sharing space with all of fiction, so we do need to be thinking about how we name the verses for accessibility.

I don't think any user would have any more difficulty understanding that "Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie Comics)" is the continuity of the Archie Comics' Sonic the Hedgehog series than they would with "Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie Continuity)". The latter is more straightforward, but they both convey the exact same message.

also, why would all the series having the same name make them all difficult to powerscale?

Not my experience. For years prior, some of the deep cut fans were trying to crossscale the Archie Comics with Games because of Ian Flynn's statements and the short stories in Archie "Another place, another time".

Even now, fans have been trying to crossscale the Games with IDW. Separating them with (Continuity) communicates to those fans we don't do that.

To be completely fair, the Wiki itself already slightly cross-scale the two series.
Town level (Sonic is shown to be capable of withstanding attacks derived from the psychokinetic abilities of Silver, such as in combat during Generations and Sonic 06 [both of which are canon to the IDW comics])
Accelerated Development (Passive; Physical Stats, Abilities. It's heavily implied that the events of the games took place within the IDW comics, where his game counterpart displays such abilities. Grew stronger after six months of imprisonment in Sonic Forces, which is referenced as well)
Existence Erasure (It is implied the events of Sonic Generations took place, as Sonic has been shown previously facing off against the Time Eater after it erased history and left the world as a void, in which Sonic was unaffected by)
Mind Manipulation and Possession (The events of Sonic Unleashed were implied to have happened, where he effortlessly resisted such effects from Dark Gaia)
Likely Invulnerability (Blaze mentioned she couldn't be harmed by the enemy in her Burning Blaze form. IDW's continuity borrows from the games heavily, where Supers are repeatedly said and shown to be invulnerable)
If the fault is on anyone for the confusion, it is our current profiles.

Aside from that, how exactly does this affect the other verse pages? Nobody tries to cross-scale the Archie Comics series and the original games, do they? They certainly don't do that with the Paramount film series or the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog show.

I always thought the main game canon should be called "Sonic The Hedgehog (Sega)".
Issue is as of right now, Classic Sonic is also (Sega). If we can get more Game Sonic profiles, like Cookie Run or SMT, (Sega) would be a better option after figuring out what to do with Classic Sonic.

Couldn't caught it all

Those are exceptions (and should be listed as possibles) because IDW made references to them as if those events existed in the past. Idk whats going on with IDW humans if thats the case, but the comic does references Generations, Unleashed and is known to be a sequel to Forces.

They did for a time back in 2017 - 2018. It happened outside the wiki and those had slowed down when IDW began taking off but I can't read minds of every Sonic fan out there.
