Re Zero Discussion Thread: Season 3 is Real

I forgot to get references for some stuff but I will at some point. Just really wanna read lol.

The speech thing is honestly wild. He was able to overpower Sirius' influence with just the power of his words. It was so good he had Anastasia thinking he was a con artist, and Priscilla actually miffed by not being the center of attention lol.

And it continues to be referenced for multiple volumes because of how powerful it was.

I want opinions on this: Should we include "As skilled as X who did Y" in intelligence justifications (like Reid's), or should we keep it to just their own feats and then link to the Flow Method blog which will have most feats listed (like Halibel's).

I like the former in the sense that it makes the top tiers very high ratings make more sense, but I also think it can end up cluttered.

I like the latter in the sense that it keeps the profiles cleaner and more readable, but it can make some justifications seem bare.

Former by far because I don't like being redirected to big blogs when reading other character profiles.

I wanna just see everything I need to see on the page itself. That's how I am with all profiles.

Like, idk if you were there, but do you remember that one thread where the One Piece people just had "haki resistance" listed and u had to read the Haki page to see what they were even referencing. That shit is annoying.

So we shouldn't partake in that, if possible, I think.

It would be like if Reinhard's resistance page just said "resistance to re:Zero magic and debuffs"

I like the latter in the sense that it keeps the profiles cleaner and more readable, but it can make some justifications seem bare.
To the contrary, it would make the profiles far less readable. You would have to read a bunch of other blogs with all kinds of unrelated information just to know a characters abilities. That kind of thing poisons discussions on here every damn time. It's the profile equivalent of gish galloping and it always without fail ruins discussion.

Oh, btw, I passed this part again.

Just to make sure, is this considered an outlier on here? Alongside Patrasche literally eating Ram?

Honestly, I think Invisible Providence should have Class 5 from that at least but idk.

I think it can easily just be chalked up to Ram being weakened by the miasma and Subaru seemingly being strengthened by it and pulling out way more hands than ever otherwise.

Volume 21 done. Pretty alright volume. Intriguing start to Arc 6 and the journey to the tower is quite enjoyable with plenty of dangers and deaths to keep things tense.

By the way, does this thread talk only about the anime or does it also talk about the light novel?

Yea if you're anime only, probably going to get some spoilers here, major stuff, we tend to put behind spoilers tags, but otherwise it's a free for all here.

Most of the active people here are novel readers.

I see, then I won't talk much in this thread then. I don't wanna be spoiled by the light novel or web novel.

That being said, I wanna talk about the newest episode of Season 3. It was pure kino, unfiltered kino.

I liked it all around. I forgot how much I liked these characters since I saw Season 2 a long time ago. That being said, I must say that I like Beatrice in this season more than in previous seasons. In the previous seasons I found her kinda annoying due to how mean she was, she wasn't as funny at being mean like Ram is. But now that she gets along better with Subaru, I like their relationship more, and I like her more, it's a wholesome friendship. I can't say much about the other characters except "I like them as much as I did before" I kinda forgot how much I liked Re Zero characters, I am never dropping this anime. Oh, and the new villainess is cool and creepy, I am interested to see how her ability works and how Subaru will take her down. Oh, and also, I like that Subaru is training with the whip. I didn't like that he was so weak, I don't like physically weak protagonists that much tbh. I'd prefer a protagonist that can at least compete with other characters of the series in a fight. I hope Subaru becomes at least decently strong enough to not be as weak as just a normal human. This is just a matter of personal preference I guess, kinda a stupid complaint, but I prefer physically strong protagonists. The episode is a 10/10 so far.

I mean, if that's really a bother for you, just remember that while Subaru isn't the strongest in power, in terms of influence and the ability to have a real impact and change on the world, he is practically second to none.

And while he isn't directly able to do much on his own, indirectly with the power of others who he's influence with RbD, he has already been capable of beating the White Whale, Petelguese, and the Great Rabbit. There's a reason he's become quite the figure. Even Liliana was praising him for his accomplishments.

Also, he does have Beatrice as his personal spirit now. That's quite the power up.

Volume 21 is a relatively plain start to an arc where every following volume is a banger. Still, I like the respite.

@Deidalius I could go into a whole essay discussing why Beatrice acts mean, but I don't want to spend a lot of time doing that lol. Short version is Beatrice was trapped in a cycle of hope and disappointment, thus closed herself off to others, hence why she acts mean, yet at the same time still reaches out and helps Subaru back in arc 2, and if you rewatch season 1 after seeing seeing season 2, you start noticing how Beatrice actually does like Subaru, but can't be honest, yep she is tsundere.

Being mean is just a front/mask to push people away, because she has been abandoned for 400 years. Re Zero is better on rewatches.

Funny thing is Subaru is actually a superhuman by our would standards, just that in Re Zero standards he is normal. His strengths are in convincing and bringing the right people to the right place. Despite being weak, everyone knows this, Subaru is the guy all these superhuman characters look to, to get them out of bad situations, I find that pretty cool. He can also fight with Beatrice by this point too, which is a bonus.

That's fine, I'd say it's a matter of preference. Like, Beatrice can have any backstory that justifies her behavior and yari yara, but that doesn't mean I'd like how her attitude was before.

I was kinda already aware that she had a rough backstory and all, but I didn't vibe with her personality before, you understand me? This is about vibes and preferences.

Man I Love Re: Loving The Days Gone By Starting From Zero
Unbeknownst of such happenings beyond the doors closed, Beatrice slowly lowered her hand.

The book atop her knees was an unchanging white, indicating naught of her future.

“……But, one day.”

One day for sure, one day for certain, one day for absolute, will arrive the time letters shall be scrawled upon these blank, white pages.

『That Person』whom her mother told her to await, shall arrive seeking the knowledge of the archive entrusted to her by her mother, before the Spirit whose mission was to devote her all for her mother.

“Mother, Bubby, Geuse, Toska, Roswaal, Ryuzu……”

Amidst the days she lived for long, she whispered the names possessing magnitude within her heart. Ache constricted her chest upon the whisper of a single name, hugging the girthy black book into the same chest, the girl cast her gaze down.

Someone cool would be nice. Knowledgeable, well educated, elegant in conduct. A master in all kinds of martial arts upon wielding a sword, someone who rumbled heaven and earth upon using magic, it’d be nice if a superhuman like that were to be『That Person』.

And, if that was overambitious, then——,

“——I’d be happy, if it were to be someone kind, in fact.”

One day, if there were to be someone who opened these doors and took her hand, then she wished for it to be someone kind.

Whilst wishing so, Beatrice faintly wailed, and cried all to herself.

Subaru is already rank 9th in top 15 strongest thread (will go higher as more matches are made) so he is pretty strong as is :3

Ep 1 was great, Theatrical Malice was perfect and I can't wait for ep 2
(College really making me lack on vsbw 😭)

I mean, in verse, I don't really care if he's strong outside of his verse due to his haxes or whatever. Like, I hope he becomes strong outside of just RTZ, or at least he can keep up with others.

Trueeeeee

Well, I finished Volume 22 today, and I was planning to end it there, but upon opening Volume 23, I was quickly reminded that this is in fact the greatest arc of all time and I already read half of it. (I'm still going—until I fall asleep...)

Before I continue though just had to express myself a bit cause aaaaaaa I can't keep these feelings bottled up inside me!

Literally just the best use of amnesia I've ever seen. I absolutely f##king love the set up and execution. Subaru doing his absolute best to try and become what everyone else still sees him as after he's lost the memory of who he has come to be after all of his development. Those feelings of anxiety and stressed placed on his character as he feels like he has to live up to the expectations set by his past self, as to try not to disappoint the cast that seems to think so highly of him, yearning for someone who isn't him. It is so compelling and simultaneously so tragic, especially as we see his break down throughout the loops. It's written so well, and with such flavor that I can't help but get emotional while reading a lot of these scenes.

I love this series.

Oh, side note, Volume 22 is also really good, mostly because of Reid Astrea, that goddamn chad. And also because of Julius' named chapter, where we seem him experience the same pride that Subaru felt way back when, trying to prove himself against an opponent he can't reach. A brilliant parallel. The characterization of Julius and the development of he and Subaru's relationship is incredible. We also get a lot of awesome lore in this chapter about the tower, which is all really cool stuff.

Finished. Volume 23 is absolutely legendary. 10/10 chapters back to back to back filled with so much emotion. Extremely gripping stuff.

"Re: Starting Life in Another World from Zero" is one of the best chapters in the entire series. PEAK!

I like that the op avoids spoiling the actual matchups by making all the matchups random in the op. Some of them end up kinda funny with the unfairness.

That Priscilla shot in the op is insane, and the shot of Reinhard in the ed is incredible.

Awesome visuals. This season looks sooooo good!

I liked the episode. I forget, isn't that the last death in Arc 5?

It is indeed the last.

Also, they cut Subaru using the guiltywhip against Sirius in both the anime and the manga. lol. lmao.

I apologize for ever doubting you Subaru. I didn't remember how goated you are. I'll never doubt your strength again. I kneel to you Subaru-sama.

Tappei's tweets from today about Reinhard

Ee~k! Reinhard can run on the water, can't he~!!

The background music when Reinhard is running there...! Oh, Reinhard's dependability, even when facing a sin archbishop. He's famous enough that even Sirius, who showed no interest in her surroundings, asked "Aren't you the master swordsman?".

She isn't able to show it off much due to who she's facing, but without her authority and such, Sirius is still one of the more combat-capable ones amongst the archbishops. She's no match for Reinhard, though.

A depiction of everyones' hearts becoming one. Kill her! Kill her! Kill her!

I'm sure you're aware, but exactly as it was with Petelgeuse as well, sin archbishops are specialized in "Killing at First Sight".

So, so fast...! The first half is over already. And, he's already died twice more.

Considering the failures last time, and the time before, this is the part where he searches for a method of dealing with it, together with Beatrice. As mentioned earlier, he's not able to explain about "Return by Death" even to Beatrice, but she ignores "How do you know?" and lets him talk about what he can. Beako is Seriously a Partner.

Exactly as Beatrice explained, Reinhard is the strongest in the story, but he's forced to face a lot of battles alone. As well, simply being "Strong" isn't enough to make things go smoothly. Even if you're strong, you can't solve quadratic equations...! Reinhard has the "Blessing of Arithmetic", so it works out.

New blessing, I guess Reinhard is good at math now too lol

This one also isn't a joke, unlike what he said in episode 1's comments:
"Those who don't listen." "You mean Priscilla-sama?" Reinhard's understanding is apparent... perhaps it's the "Divine Protection of Prediction." But, there is no such thing.

Volume 24 finished. Awesome volume. Amnesia Subaru is so well written, and he develops so quickly!

It's finally time for the peak!

Btw, remind me if there is anything I should go and read the WN for.

Holy **** episode 2 is so goated
That scene with Sirius hanging him was so gory that it had to be censored completely on Muse Asia and I can't even seem to find any do uploading it which means YouTube is probably taking it down

The animation this season is sooo good
The ending visuals had me STUNNED
I also heard this was a low priority episode and honestly if this is a low priority I cannot even guess how good a high priority episode will be
Regulus vs Reinhard is guaranteed to be one of the greatest fight scenes of the year I think

Also, due to the high quality I think ReZero season 3 has a very good chance of winning anime of the year

They have fantastic english subtitles btw, I wish their translation was easier to access.
Yeah they atleast translated Sirius as "adultress" which is close to the actual word (*****) unlike a certain other company translating it to "housewrecker" 😭 (it makes 0 sense in context)

I can't order them, or choose just one, but these are all top-tier.
  • "Life Started In A Different World From Zero"
  • "Natsuki Subaru's Restart"
  • "Self-Proclaimed Knight, Natsuki Subaru"
  • "From Zero"
  • "That's All This Story Is About"
  • "Taste Of Death"
  • "Choose Me"
  • "The Newest Hero And The Most Ancient Hero"
  • "Theresia van Astrea"
  • "Re: Starting Life In A Different World From Zero"
  • "Natsuki Subaru"
  • "Good Loser"
  • "Ram"
  • "Looming Evil"
  • "Unperishing ■■"
  • "Beyond The Eleventh Second"
  • "I Know"
  • "Chisha Gold"
  • "Natsuki Subaru And Vincent Abellux"
  • "Sphinx"
  • "Priscilla Barielle"
  • "Starlight Beyond The Realm Of A Billion"

When Reinhard cut Sirius and everyone around died i couldn't help but imagine him having a Homelander type breakdown. The way the scene is set up makes you fell how hard the realization of how he just fcked up hit him.

Oh btw I finished Volume 25 guys. Best volume of the series that I've read so far. I'd even go as far as saying it is the single best book I've ever read.

It's stacked to the brim with amazing chapters: "Natsuki Subaru," "Good Loser," and "Ram" are some of the best in the entire series. Easy 10/10s. Natsuki Subaru might even be my favorite chapter in the entire series thus far. When I originally read this about 3-4 years ago that was the moment when Subaru became my favorite character ever. I have just reawakened those same feelings, having read this again.

Ram is probably my favorite woman in the series. I already liked her a lot, but reading her developments and character throughout Arc 6, my opinion of her just continued spiraling upwards. Then her name chapter hit and it was so good I used all my free time during work to read it. She's so cool!!!

And then there's Julius getting so much development in this arc as well, with an equally amazing chapter focused on him....

"Louis Arneb," "Death of the Mind," and "I ask thy Will" were also excellent. Though, I think Louis Arneb got shafted a lot in the novel version.

I am finally onto new territory. I've never fully read Arc 7, beyond just knowing the general plot of the beginning bits.

Still like 200 chapters and 5 Ex Novels away from being caught up, however.

List of S Tier Characters IMO so far: Natsuki Subaru, Beatrice, Ram, Roswaal L. Mathers, Julius Juukulius
