Re Zero Discussion Thread: Season 3 is Real

With consistently good animation, which seems likely, as I have always thought this season could be what takes Re Zero to the next level, which is weird to say, since it's a classic already.

I can't even imagine arcs 7-8, which has even more action in animated form.

But yea if this season brings in even more profits, when Re Zero already is getting Kadokawa so much money, maybe they will finally decide to milk the series and animate the side stories. Idk how a season 4 works without animating the side content.

We might get ex novels as OVAs in preparation for those arcs, I would also die happy if they made if stories as OVAs as well... we can only dream

For Vollachia setup we need Ex4 + its sequel Sword Identity, and for Ex 4 we need Ex 1 for Balleroy's motivations, and for Sphinx we need Ex 2 and PP&Z, and for Stargazers we need Ex 3 & Ex 6, and for Priscilla & Arakiya setup we need Ex 5, and for general Arc 7 events we need Death Unto The Weak, and for Emilia Camp's travel to Vollachia we need Stand By Me Pleiades, and–

Instead of adapting the side stories, they might just do a exposition dump instead.

Like tell, don't show. Not for everthing, but for the majority. Like, I really doubt they gonna full adapt all side stories, considering how they cut content for each season;

That would create a third class of viewers to Re Zero, the anime already cuts stuff, so technically anime viewers are already another class, but even if you follow the web novel, Tappei keeps putting important stuff in side stories, so you don't see everything...

Sure Arc 7-8 can be done without adapting all the side content because stuff is mentioned ie Vincent and Priscilla are related, Sphinx and Priscilla had an encounter back in her domain, but idk, a complaint of arc 7-8 in particular is that it introduces lot of new characters, so it's hard to care about them.

Anyway it's just bad business, you literally have a series you can milk for years, even after the main story is done, and it's already so profitable with just the main content that there is a notable drop in profits when the anime isn't airing.

Kadokawa has infinite money at their fingertips but don't touch it because they think it's safer to just make figurines of the girls forever. Tangentially related to how little I care for the majority of Re:Zero's marketing making the story look like a romcom fantasy.

But I would LOVE to see the Ex Novels and the Tanpenshuu stories animated, it has some of the best Re:Zero content. Things like the No Mercy shop specials honestly work just by slotting them into the main story.

Before Season 3 Episode 1 comes out, I just wanna say: The explosion from Kiritaka's magic stone, which Subaru tanks pretty easily, is likely lower than his 9-B+ value, so no upgrades from that.

Watched the episode.

That last scene with Sirius was disturbing, didn't think much of it in the novel.

Hmm, would next episode end with the "Optimal Solution"? Can see it ending with the hero showing up to save the day, that or the hero failing, wonder which it will be.

I'm predicting either The Optimal Solution or a Showdown of Ice and Fire, yeah. It's even possible that it could end on Regulus appearing with Emilia in his arms.
I think that’s going to be the third episode’s ending while the second one ends with everyone dying after Reinhard kills Sirius.

I've decided to stop being lazy and actually READ my favorite series of all time, instead of just talking about it like I've been doing for literal years now.

So I restarted a couple days ago, from Arc 5, and I hope to catch up soon. It's a long ways ahead with Arc 7/8 being 13 volumes + like 10 side stories.

I am currently on Volume 20 (Last volume in Arc 5), and I will be reading the Light Novel up to wherever it ends...

Can anyone tell me the proper reading order, for future reference, regarding all the side content?

It’s when you get to arc 7 that you’ll have to start reading side stories if you want to understand the series better.

For arc 7, ex 4 and ex 5 would be ideal, alongside some Priscilla side stories (The Day I gave up on being a Following Star, Sunlight on water (forgot the exact name) and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) and the side story about the Emilia camp outside of Subaru (forgot the name)

For arc 8, ex 2, 3 and 6 would be good, maybe ex 1 as well?

I'd recommend right before arc 7 reading the ex novels in the order of 1->2->3->6/BB->4->5 and then reading the Priscilla camp side content (see below). You can probably also tack on Scarlet League after OUATIL now that it's translated. There are also a number of small Crusch camp side stories I would recommend immediately after ex 1. You can find them on the reddit translation page.

Felt camp side stories seem pretty important too but you can easily wait at least until you reach arc 9 if not 10.

BB novels like Frozen Bonds, LTDGB, and Apocalypse Girls are very relevant and very very good but they can pretty much be read at any time.

Everything else gets a lot more complicated so let's not go into that right now.

90% chance Tappei will be extending his love of making side-stories Very Much Required Reading into even the anime, since he said on his twitter he'd be relying on Breaktime shorts....

So much Re Zero content exists its insane....

I still have yet to get to visual novels, making profiles for VN exclusive characters sounds fun, except there is still so much to do with the main series.

Looking at you, lifting strength

Omega in Wonderland even brought mobile game original characters into the canon, can't wait to read that side story.

Also, Once Upon A Time In Lugunica II was very interesting. I actually have quite a soft spot for Marcos.

Looking around, based on average word count for LN's and 25 volumes (Re Zero volumes are often longer the average), Re Zero apparently was touching 1.5 million words, while looking at some guesses for One Piece, as of chapter 1076 it was touching around 1.8 million words.

Re Zero now has 39 volumes, while One Piece is at 1125 chapters. Based on that, and that's just the main LN volumes for Re Zero, it's already longer than One Piece I think. But it's all guesses really, Re Zero in terms of content is the longest isekai, and one of the longest LN's, only LN i can think of that compares is Toaru.

Yeah isn’t Toaru like 50 volumes or smt, I think the author of COTE also said that he’s going to write around 50 volumes

Really puts into perspective the difference between words and images, though, considering main continuity re zero can be adapted perfectly with like 200~ish episodes while it would be a huge stretch to try and do that with One Piece manga.

Tiga might end up being deceptively complicated considering he's basically just swordsman of unknown skill with diet Regulus divine protection.

I think Salum would probably be easier. Sakura is probably even easier than that. Melty doesn't really need a profile but she would be by far the easiest so 🤷

Kafma first though.

I finished volume 20 yesterday. It was pretty good especially Theresia Van Astrea.

Volume 19 is still my fav out of Arc 5 though because Priscilla and Regulus are way too cool.

Started on Volume 21 today already at chapter 3. I have only faint memories of the Arc 6 WN but this is already reawakening a lot of those feelings...

I can't wait. Unfortunately got work today so probably won't be able to complete it today but it's so immersive...

Madlad made a 5 hour video reacting to season 3. Even as a novel reader, this dude always gives insightful stuff that makes me think. The theories he had about the Royal Candidates downfall, blew my mind.

He is also doing a re-watch of season 1 on twitch. He started commenting on what would break the characters and mentioned how Subaru could in the future be separated from his friends....

Terms out if you actually pay attention to psychology of the characters, and you can see a lot of stuff coming.

The latest episode really got me thinking about tragic Reinhard is again, he isn't around a lot in the story, but when you look at his backstory, and circumstances, I still think he is one of the most interesting characters in the story, still a top 10 male character for me, and he hasn't even done much.

Can't get over this one thread where someone called Reinhard a Mary Sue and worse character than Rimuru Tempest 😭😭

We can write essays about the characters; their backgrounds, position in the world, how they interact with others etc, it's why the psychologist has 5-6 hours videos on every episode of Re Zero.

There are so many layers to the characters.

Average Re:Zero side character has more depth than a lot of main characters. It's almost a negative, since it makes it a bit difficult to sort out the cast in your head, there's so much to consider.

Leaks are apparently saying we will get both the op and ed next episode.

Also apparently it's adapting further than I thought, the Reinhard ending is probably going to be like halfway through the episode, I am guessing.

Anyway can't wait to see the visuals for the op and ed.

Still wondering if the anime will actually animate the Reinhard jumping feat, will be interesting to see people's reactions to that, not everyone knows just how op Reinhard is yet.

I hope the visuals aren't super spoilery like the last OP. Something like the first S2 OP would be awesome.

Re: Zero music is consistently good so I have no doubt this will be another banger.

But imagine...
