Re Zero Discussion Thread: Season 3 is Real

Looking good, I suppose we could next try and upgrade Divine General ppl to genius intelligence.

Will have to wait a bit, making a CRT for another verse, and after that I have to finish off another series and make CRT'S for that.

Of course if anyone wants to handle it, they can do it, instead on waiting on me.

The profiles need to cleaned up too, they link to feats which are irrelevant at this point ie supersonic, city block level, and I want to re-add some feats such as all the Jiwald dodging feats from the Ex cast, this I will get to relatively soon.

I can't believe we'd been accidentally nerfing Garfiel all this time lol, in Volume 15 he doesn't behead the Rock Pig– it's an anime-only addition.

Garfiel lifted the Witchbeast's whole corpse in the novel.

Well kinda irrelevant now that the cast are throwing around buildings.

Speaking of the Pleadies Door feat, I did calc it and it was accepted a long time ago, but even that's kinda irrelevant now, its class 25, while the buildings feats will supposedly be class K

Personally, I'm kind of a fan of "irrelevent" feats. If I had the time or skill, I'd try to calculate every feat in the verse, even obviously low-value ones. Also in Arc 9 Chapter 9, Subaru claims he can slightly push open Pleiades' door, so maybe it isn't that irrelevent?

Petra: [Ah, Subaru. This big door, how do we open it?]

Subaru: [Ah, it’s certainly huge, but it isn’t as heavy as it looks. If I put all my weight into it and push with all my might, it should open up just a little.]

Petra: [You used force!?]

Meili: [Oh ye~s. Because it had been opened previously by Naked Onee-san and Emilia-Onee-san… and then, by the Sword Saint, I had forgo~tten.]

Interesting things from Re:Zero Greed IF Light Novel Chapter 2:

Subaru and Echidna's musings on Wilhelm escaping from the White Whale's belly:
Honestly, being eaten by a Witchbeast was not an uncommon cause of death for him lately. Even so, he could never get used to the feeling of his very existence being devoured and lost to another creature.

Echidna: [Just when you managed to avoid getting chomped on by the Great Rabbit in the Sanctuary.]

Subaru: [Whether it’s a giant Witchbeast or a small one, being eaten feels just as bad either way… It’s impressive, that Wilhelm-san managed to escape from the White Whale’s belly, though.]

Echidna: [His training was on a different level, and when you are talking about such a vast difference in size, that changes things as well.]

In Subaru’s memories, it felt like ages ago when he had faced off against the White Whale. And yet, he recalled Wilhelm, who had once been swallowed by the creature during that battle.

In the end, he had managed to slice his way out of the Witchbeast’s body, and escape from within.

Could the difference really be attributed to something as simple as a difference in physical capability?

Echidna: [You do not think it is just a matter of sheer determination, do you?]

Subaru: [――. You think it’s unrelated?]

Echidna: [Not just unrelated; I think it is a nonsensical notion. Firstly, how much of a difference in determination do you think there is between an old swordsman, who has spent over a decade hunting the Witchbeast that killed his wife, and you, who continues to die to protect those around you?]

Subaru: [I…]

Echidna: [It is not something that can be quantified. That is why I will say it again: this is pure nonsense.]

Echidna's claim that Authorities are privileges that allow one to interfere with the world, while Divine Protections are afterthoughts.
Echidna: [In other words, there is no loophole in the rules. We have to face Meili’s Divine Protection head-on, even if it is an unfair advantage.]

Subaru: [Unfair advantage, huh… I’m sure Meili would say the same thing about me, a Witch’s accomplice who uses Return by Death.]

Echidna: [I would have to disagree with that. Authorities are privileges that allow one to interfere with the world, while Divine Protections are like afterthoughts, tacked on as a nuisance to people like us.]

Subaru: [I feel like this is important information, but it doesn’t seem related to subduing Meili, does it?]

Echidna: [Oh my, you still are not interested in indulging my digressions, are you?]

Echidna and Subaru mention the Od Lagna:
Subaru: [There’s no way I’d be allowed that kind of weakness.]

Echidna: [Not allowed, you say? And who exactly would not allow it? The God from your world?]

Subaru: [――――]

Echidna: [Sorry to disappoint, but there is no God in this world. The closest thing would be something called Od Lagna, but it has no will, nor does it judge people.]

The term “Od Lagna” was one he had heard a few times before. ――It seemed to refer to an unimaginably vast conceptual existence in this other world.

It existed, but did nothing. In a way, it might have been similar to the God Subaru knew from his own world. In that sense, he agreed with Echidna.

However――,

Subaru: [It’s not God, or whatever that Od thing is, that wouldn’t allow it. It’s me.]

Echidna: [Hmm…]

Subaru: [Choosing whom to save and whom to let die is the kind of thinking a God would do. If I start picking and choosing whom to save, I’d be no different from some mechanical God.]

Divine Protections can grow/develop (kind of already known thanks to Garf), and Meili's DP of Fiend Manipulation is very powerful:
Subaru: [Let’s get back on track. What did you mean when you said Meili’s Divine Protection might be far stronger than we anticipated?]

Echidna: [It is not commonly known, but… Divine Protections can have individual differences, and even potential for growth.]

Subaru: [Seriously?]

Echidna: [Yes, seriously.]

Echidna nodded repeatedly, smiling as she affirmed Subaru’s surprise.

Her attitude was rather frivolous, but for Subaru, who did not possess a Divine Protection, it was a complete shock. Since he naturally did not have one, he never had the chance to think deeply about Divine Protections in the first place.

Echidna: [For example, the Divine Protection of Wind Evasion, which the whole species of ground dragons possesses, is an easy one to understand. This Divine Protection prevents the wind or any turbulence from affecting them while they run… however, the range and duration of the Divine Protection can vary greatly between a ground dragon that has run long distances and consistently used the Divine Protection, and one that has not.]

Subaru: [So, that’s what you mean by individual differences and growth in Divine Protections.]

Echidna: [In most cases, if their Divine Protection were to stop working, it is usually assumed that the ground dragon simply got tired from running. Since ground dragons do not talk, it is easy for it to go unnoticed.]

Other than the example of ground dragons, it seemed that users of Divine Protections could often use their abilities more effectively as adults than they could as children.

This was often misunderstood as simply becoming more accustomed to their Divine Protections over time.

Echidna: [Many cannot fully grasp the potential of their Divine Protections, and end up being overwhelmed by them during childhood. There may even be people close to you who have suffered because of their Divine Protections.]

Subaru: [When you put it like that, Divine Protections don’t seem like they’re just convenient powers.]

Echidna: [They truly are not. Having a power that others do not have might make one feel special, but having a third arm or a third eye does not necessarily make a person happy.]

A lot of it was from Greed IF LN info prior to the translation. This will be useful for the eventual Od Lagna blog:
Echidna: [Sorry to disappoint, but there is no God in this world. The closest thing would be something called Od Lagna, but it has no will, nor does it judge people.]

The term “Od Lagna” was one he had heard a few times before. ――It seemed to refer to an unimaginably vast conceptual existence in this other world.

It existed, but did nothing. In a way, it might have been similar to the God Subaru knew from his own world. In that sense, he agreed with Echidna.

Greed IF also explained Slow-Mo vision:
Before his eyes, he saw the gleaming claws of the beast as it swung them down at an angle, directly toward him.

In his strangely slow-moving vision, each claw seemed as large and sharp as a sword, each slash comparable to being torn apart by a bundle of blades.

It is said that when one faces a life-threatening situation, time appears to slow down. It is a defensive instinct of the brain, frantically searching for a way to survive in those fleeting moments.

Experiencing flashbacks during a crisis is similar to this defensive instinct, not as a way to re-experience one’s memories, but as a means to search for a method of survival based on past experiences to overcome the immediate crisis.

But alas, how unfortunate. ――In this slowed-down world, in all his past experiences, there was not a single way for Natsuki Subaru to escape from this situation.

Subaru: [――Ah.]

A merciless slash cut diagonally across Subaru’s body, the beast’s claws hooking into his chest and abdomen, effortlessly ripping them apart with an unsettling ease that human bodies should not possess. —Re: Kasaneru IF LN Chapter 2

Doing multiple things at once, like working on other verses, but just posted Yorna's profile, and it gave me a bunch of questions, probably should have discussed it here before posting.

First off, how fast exactly do we think she is? Olbart imo is faster, but wasn't like she was being blitzed like Olbart did to Spica. That then lead me into thinking how fast exactly is Rowan? Seems a little vague, but the numerous clones apparently could push Emilia a little, yet innumerable clones weren't a challenge for Yorna, so is Normal Yorna>Emilia?

First off, how fast exactly do we think she is?
Probably varies as well. She seemingly wasn't at her peak when she fought Olbart, but she could still somewhat keep up. She was also able to keep up well with Arakiya in Sword Identity (seemingly peak Yorna), who is herself likely faster than Olbart given Arakiya is above him.

Actually, base Arakiya was even able to scorch half of Kid Cecilus' body. Huh.

That then lead me into thinking how fast exactly is Rowan?
In life he considered Heinkel a fairly powerful person, and then in death he placed his toes upon the steps of the Heavenly Sword, making him get way better... If Yorna could still handle countless clones, while Emilia couldn't hold them all back, I think it's fair to say Yorna > Emilia.

what about cecilus being unable to kill her? I think that would give her like, tier 6C-5C durability or smth?
Also resistance to his swords

That was also something I wanted to bring up.

Could take it as just her damage transfer, what makes her durability being that high kinda of iffy for me was the implication that Olbart could kill her. Would be the same as saying Olbart is stronger than Ceci, since he couldn't do it.

imo it's all damage transfer, I also don't think Yorna herself ever states that she gets a massive boost in power in Sword Identity, in arc 8, she starts fighting Arakiya (who unlike in Sword Identity isn't conflicted) and thinks that she underestimated Arakiya and that maybe she (Yorna) could maybe have a chance of winning if she was in Chaosflame due to her not being capable (initially) of using her soul marriage technique on things outside of Chaosflame.

There's no indication of her strength massively fluctuating at any point in the story (except during the Rowan fight), she's consistently shown to be around Olbart lvl in stats with the damage transfer making her almost impossible to kill (Tappei is annoying).

Furthermore, the whole "well she gets way stronger in Sword Identity because she wants to avenge Tanza's sister" is kinda iffy, because wouldn't she then also be having a massive amp in arc 8's first phase when fighting Arakiya, because she's fighting for her daughter and everyone in the Empire? She was clearly giving it her all. Even during her first appearance in arc 7, she tells Vincent (Chisha) that they're in her city and that not even Cecilus' blade can reach her here.

I also think Olbart being to kill her (while Cecilus can't) is maybe just a patience thing? Yorna's damage gets transferred to objects/things she loves, so it's possible that after a certain amount of time of attacking her she might become vulnerable. Olbart is vicious and patient, so it's possible he was repeatedly tagging her for a good while, while the short tempered Cecilus might just give up after a few scuffles.

As for speed, while you could say that Olbart is maybe faster (imo due to his agility and size), they're at the very least comparable because they kept clashing and it didn't seem like Yorna was having trouble keeping up with him.

Difficult to say. Normally the damage transfer causes her to take a wound and then it is undone (Olbart's hand was bloody after he stabbed her, and he said "So that's what Cecilus meant when he said he couldn't take your head")

But against Cecilus, his attacks just bounced off of her, leaving a faint mark on her neck and rebounding from her bosom.

There's also Rowan saying that Yorna was stronger than Cecilus, but maybe Rowan is an idiot.

Pls use paragraphs

Pls use paragraphs
:(

Also Rowan should have sub-relativistic reaction speed due to scaling above Jamal, who could push Subaru out of the way and intercept a Jiwald with his swords, only getting tagged because the Jiwald went through his swords (the same thing would have happened to Emilia had she not used ice which reflects light)

So. Two of the new Shop Special side story series seem VERY important.

Kararagi Shinigami Incident — An Anastasia SS involving Zarestia. Perhaps even the Night Weeping of the City-States?

No Stella no Life — An Echidna SS, or possibly an Omega SS. Very interesting title.

Yup, Arc 4 and Arc 5 are being adapted by different artists simultaneously. The anime will very quickly overtake the manga, but it could still give interesting alternatives feats.

Changes I'm kind of expecting:
  • More Observer lore from Stride, he was mentioned a bit in Arc 7.
  • Maybe changes to Melinda? Arc 8 seems to imply Evil Eyes are a kind of Divine Protection, so her being able to use it in Picoutatte would be weird.
  • Volcanica may no longer comment on Valgren? Unless its Emptiness of the Spirit ocurred in the last few decades.
  • Valgren must die in Vollachia since Arc 8 retconned that.

i'm not sure if Volcanica would even be there this time, in the LN Wilhelm said that he managed to defeat Valgren all by himself

“Once, nearly four decades ago, I crossed swords with
Bargren the Black Dragon, who appeared in the south of
the kingdom. Compared with that one, this dragon is far
too small. Should we lop off her head once, she will surely
perish.”
“What, once wasn’t enough for this Bargren guy?”
“I lopped off all three of his heads.” Volume-17
