Hamon simply has the capability of softening pain. Minor Pain resistance.

Being able to null pain is also on the page already.

Can I add something here? Hamon should also have non-physical interaction. Dio wasn't going to touch Joseph when he wrapped Hamon on his body, not even with The World. Also, Araki later confirms in Part 7 that Hamon is indeed connected to stands, just like the spin which is able to hit stands.

But that does not seem to be proof that Hamon can succesfully attack stands.

The closest we have as proof is the world not wanting to strike Joseph while he had hamon wrapped around his body as shown here

Basically for Hamon to effect a stand it would need NPI @Ant

The spin affected the stand and Jospeh's hamon would've transmitted through The World and affected DIO if the latter would've went through with their attack.

Although it's actually also likely that the hamon would have been transmitted to the world via his stand Hermit Purple who already has NPI although I am unsure of if NPI works like that. Can you transfer energy that isn't normally NPI via conducting it with something that is?

Yeah that's a good point actually. It being able to be conducted by something non physical is a pretty good justifcation for NPI.
