One's Mana is said to be the origin of the soul, with the shape of the soul being the one's magic itself.

I think i've found some additional support to confirm this. When Lumiere first encountered Zagred as a disembodied soul, in the viz translation he described him as  "as a soul WITH malicious mana" but that's definitely a mistranslation because the raws do not say that.

The raws described Zagred as 邪悪なマナの魂: a soul OF malicious mana/malicious mana soul or "a wicked soul of mana" not a soul "with" malicious mana, that's a mistranslation. Based on correct translation, its a much closer relationship. We might be able to consider souls as mana with concisiousness, or the very least the aspects of the souls originate from mana.
