They emit a lot of radiation and 1 proton is enough to cause serious harm (though not immediate) when shot at relativistic speeds so characters who have particle beam weapons/abilities should have matter manipulation and radiation manipulation. same applies for people who resist it

Note: Obviously does not apply to particle beams that don't act like particle beams IRL (can't think of any rn except this rifle which has particle beams massively slower than IRL ones somehow?)

Some characters that this probably apply to:

It's also a speed feat to dodge or react to one, and a cutting resistance feat to withstand one, in a way. Particle beams strip the electrons from the atoms they hit, which means a particle beam can "cut" on the atomic level.

I'd rather they show the effects of these things rather than assume they have it. It's not quite the same as light where most people are generally aware of how it works. I don't know that we should assume, for example, Sonic is using particle beams 1:1 with reality solely because it bears its name. Just my opinion.

by this logic we can't assume any rules of physics apply to fiction

Not quite. Fiction doesn't really abuse all laws of physics equally. This is literally our standard on a great many topics (light isn't used just for being called light, for christ's sake).

Does this apply to photon beams as well?
The whole "we need further context to confirm"? Yeah.

Light is just 1 thing, we assume everything else works the same as real world physics unless there's evidence to suggest otherwise

For radiation and matter manipulation, it technically is true that it has those effects, maybe listing it as limited and only via particle beams is the solution? Since it's exclusively for negating durability and dealing damage. I stand by my previous statement that it's a speed feat to react to a particle beam and something akin to a cutting resistance feat to resist being pierced by one.

Man you must not be familiar with where you are lmao
