I mean, they are understandable at the very least.
Shanks is in a weird position where he either got too much hype but is actually barely on par with Kaido/Big Mom (as these two have ridiculous Haki and Broken DFs) or he is indeed as strong as all the hype he gets, which then places him above anyone not named Roger and Xebec.

Well in current scaling Kid outscales Shanks since Shanks is comparable to Oldbeard and Kid can kinda box Big Mom a bit

And Kidd's Punk Clash > Base Kaido, as Big Mom said the Punk Clash (along with Law's attack) did more damage than anything she'd felt in decades.

That honestly doesn't mean much, Shanks had no visible stress of battle on him, if he did block Kaido's hit, since Kaido has this nasty tendency to use haki in his hits, he likely would've had some form of injury on him, but he doesn't and an even clash with Oldbeard, when Primebeard is considered comparable to Base Kaido
ships have Weapons. Sinking ships with those is a good option yeah?
